Wireless alternatives to the official 360 Wireless adapter?

Hi, I'm new to the 360 scene, so forgive me if this question has come up before. I tried to do a search and couldn't find the info I was looking for.

I've heard that you can use any wireless bridge to connect wirelessly with the 360, but of course the official 360 adaptor would be ideal because it receives power through the USB as well. Are there any other good routers that you know of that can do this, too? The wireless adapter is pretty expensive, so I just wanted to see what my options are. If not, I'll have to bite and try to find a good deal on one. Thanks in advance.

I use my old Linksys bridge and router from when I hooked up the original XBOX to Live. If you are going to use it soley for gaming than use the Microsoft one, if you want to use it for other things (2 computers linked to the internet) then use a different one.

I am using the one that microsoft made for the original xbox, you can find it on ebay for cheap, even if you don't have the CD-rom for it it will work, also I think it is called the Play link by logitech it works great it looks like two little black cubes. I like using the ethernet port instead of the USB because then when the Xbox live vision camera comes out I can plug it into the back and still have the two front ones for my play and charge kits.

Keep in mind that is a Wireless B adapter, so it won't be as fast as the others.
Thanks everyone, I ordered that one from Amazon, it was about 25-30 after shipping, pretty good. I'll let you know how it is.
I'd recommend cancelling if it isn't too late. Find something else you want from Amazon that is $6.01 or more, and order both together for the free shipping.

I have the Netgear WGE111. I found a deal when I first got the 360. It works good once its setup. The setup can be a bitch but not any harder than setting up a WiFi router. I have used it with a Linksys router and a Actiontec. Well worth the $30 I think I paid for it.
Peace

true dat

http://soccersquared.com/amazon/

used this to find some $1 game to meet the $25 limit to save the massive shipping charge

btw it works great...post back with setup problems...you'll have them if you run wep on your network

also b vs g is irrelevant for gaming speeds, so ignore the earlier poster...now if you are streaming video you need to reconsider.

You should also consider powerline bridges. These treat the electrical lines in your house as an Ethernet cable. Fry's has sold the 85 Mbps version of this for as little as $60 a pair recently. Since it's a given that both your router and Xbox 360 are near power outlets, this approach works very well and is far more reliable than wireless.

That's interesting, I've never heard of that powerline thing.

I'm too late to cancel, they shipped already (which is weird since I ordered it late today). But I kinda wanted it sooner than later so I went for slightly faster than the standard shipping. Thanks for the advice though, I'll be sure to do that next time I order something.

you can also patch it to a laptop connected to a wireless network (which you'll need to turn on connection sharing in the Internet options thingy), if that's an option for you. Works like a charm

I am trying to use the old XBOX Wireless G Adaptor (the one from the XBOX 1 days) on my 360, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't have the installation CD for it, any suggestions?

you need to hook it up to an original xbox to be able to configure it

Does anyone know anything about this product?

Do I need a wireless router to use that?

What it looks like to me is, plug the ethernet cable of one of the black things into your router and a plug into a power outlet, and with the other one, plug the ethernet cable into your xbox 360 and its plug into an outlet.

The black boxes are transmitting the wireless, right?

Correct me If I'm wrong.

I got the one from amazon that someone mentioned earlier.

Linsys Wireless-B Game adapter.

The only bad things I have to say about it right now are:
(1) It does not use ethernet as power, as suggested by the poster (not that you right out said it), it uses an adapter for power.
(2) A bit of a pain to set up. If you are going to use this, read the amazon reviews to set it up. My biggest problem was that I was using a MAC filter and found out that I had to input the MAC addresses for both the Linksys Game Adapter and the actual XBOX 360. Once I put both on the filter list, it worked fantastically. I would recommend if you don't mind taking up an extra power source.

Just under $30 after shipping (or free shipping if you buy some filler).
I got the offical 360 Wireless for $55 on EBAY from my local pawn shop... :)
So did you get it from ebay or the pawn shop.

As for those black boxes those are pretty slow, they only go 185kbs. I know my internet does 350kbs and compaired to what you can get in a big city this is nothing. The boxes should be ok for online just big downloads will be a pain.

Got it from EBAY. My local Pawn Shop was selling it on EBAY since they thought no one locally will buy such an item. Picked it up from the store, so I didnt even have to pay for shipping.. :)
