Is there a way to configure the wireless adapter on the xbox to wireless N? I have a wireless N router set to mixed mode and a wpa2 key but for some reason i can't get the xbox to connect via wireless n, its only using wireless g

any help would be appreciated.

1. What type of Xbox? The New 250GB Console or an older model 360?
2. If it's the older model 360, do you have the N Wireless adapter (Black with 2 Antennae)?
3. Are there any other devices in your home that are NOT running on the N Band?(desktops, laptops, etc) If so, I'd strongly consider getting them up to the N Speed then changing the Router to N Only.

I have the new slim model.

im using mixed mode since i have a wii that uses 802.11b, and a ps3 that uses 802.11g.

edit

i just set it up using wireless n only and it won't even connect at all.
i think it might be the key im using. im using a key with all number format

XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

is there a certain format i need to use for N?

The encryption key you setup on your router needs to be typed into your xbox exactly the same. If you're using WPA2, the key can be anything you want, just make sure its exactly the same.

Also, check your router for MAC filtering and static IP addressing. You, or someone else, might have set those up at some point, and they would both interfere with getting your xbox connected.

It's not that the xbox doesn't connect, it just won't connect using N. The router is a linksys wrt160n. It's pretty picky about the passphrase I use for some reason. I have to put a dash every four numbers for some reason to get wpa2 to work.

Is your Wii set to do the 24connect? If so, it's keeping your network down. If you want N, you have to eliminate all the non-N devices.

I tried N only and my xbox couldn't connect still.
and my wii isn't set the 24 connect. seems like a waste of power since I don't see any benefits to it at all.
seems I will have to live with G. I did worry about streaming HD movies to the xbox but I was able to play a 1080p of avatar last night and it went well.

kinda defeats the purpose of me getting the new slim as i wanted the wireless N connection.

Yep, just remembered as I read this. If any devices are running at anything less than N, nothing will run at N. You can still benefit from the increased range of the N router, but you wont go past 54Mbps.

finally got it to work with N
I had to use AES encryption as i was using TKIP or AES before. don't know if that really had anything to do with it but finally got the xbox on 802.11n

and god does N make a difference. there is virtually no load time or seek time when playing a 1080p movie
How did you switch to AES encryption? I'm looking for an option on my Linksys WRT400N.
should be under wireless security settings.

you have to put the security mode to use WPA2.
should be under encryption type.
then you re-enter your wpa2 key on your xbox for it to work.

Sorry in advance for such a dumb question. So if I also have a Wii, and a PS3 on my wireless network it pointless to upgrade to a "N" speed router for my new slim 360?

not true.
most routers should be able to support all modes at the same time.

right now i have a wii, ps3, g notebook and an iphone that are all able to work at the same time.

I know they all would connect I was more worried about the sppeds they would connect at. If i would get a "N" speed wireless router would the Slim 360 benefit from it or wold it be stuck only in "G" mode because of the Wii and PS3.

sorry should've specified.
yea everything on my network runs including the xbox in N mode.

I checked my new 360 I just got after I read this thread. It looks like the wireless is connected N. The only other wireless device is connected N as well. I know our phones are not N but I don't have them connected at the moment.

I'm using a WRT160N v3. I haven't noticed any huge lag on the wireless with streaming from my computer, Netflix or online gaming on BFBC2.
