If u look at the ad at target.com and click the picture on the ad it says ultimate collectors edition. But still has the target image on it.
That's what I printed out to get the UCE at BB. Now I need to return the emerald edition.

wow man, this is bullshit.

I never make out on these mistakes, or price-matches.

I go to Best Buy today, try to get the price match, and they won't do it.

The guy says that they don't carry that product, just the big box set and since it isn't the same thing, they can't match it.

Which, is right... they really shouldn't be.

But everyone here has had no problem and I'm the only one it seems to be denied.

sucks.

I bought the movie at target for $34.99, but after people said they price matched it at best buy I thought I would try it, and sure enough I got the UCE edition for $34.99!!! sweet deal thanks guys
^ugh... keep rubbing it in.
sorry man i wish you got it. try another best buy and tell them target has it on sale and have them call and when mine called they told them the wizards of oz on blu ray was 34.99 so they matched it.

Yeah, dude. My BB is great about price matching but almost never has a good clearance. Either way, you aren't missing much unless you want that goofy watch.

That said, THANKS CAGERS, got the UCE for 36 bucks!

but they know that it's a totally different item. One is the Blu Ray, Best Buy is selling a gift-set, collector's set, whatever you wanna call it. I might be able to get someone to do it but I don't even know if I care to drive around trying.

ya i know its different but you just have to get lucky man i tried and got it

I gotta say this is the best special edition I have ever seen for Blu-Ray. The marketing guide is unbelievable, the box and book are incredibly well designed and made. The only thing needless and cheesy is the watch.

It's easily worth 50 bucks IF you like learning alot ABOUT movies rather than just watching them.

It didn't work for me either, it really is all about luck b/c when I got there it was a new cashier and the manager was right there so they definitely checked to make sure it was the same thing.
I haven't seen any of this information posted yet:

• The Wizard of Oz Blu-Ray Buying Guide

• The Wizard of Oz Blu-Ray Review [surprising]

• The Wizard of Oz will be available for instant streaming on Netflix to everyone– even non-member! But there's a catch, so check out the link.

Hope this helps!
that's the only knock i have on this movie at all... not fully widescreen.

oh well.

the cashier called they told him it was $34.99 and they still needed a manager for override. the manager came over and said "price match, wow thats a good price." so it took 3 idiots one guy at target, one cashier and one manager.

I got lucky as well with the BB/Target Price match.
Combined with my $15 in rewards certificates, I paid 19.99 +tax.
I went to a store that I know as having clerks with a "whatever" attitude. Sure enough, she didn't even bother asking a manager.

Because it predates the use of widescreen. That is why its not in widescreen and never should be in widescreen because its not meant to be in widescreen.

How can you knock a film that was made in 1938 (when ALL movies were shot in 4:3) for being displayed in 4:3? What do you want them to do ... stretch the film to the sides so that everyone looks like a munchkin?

No fellas... I know the reason why, but I'm simply saying I *wish* it were in widescreen. I think this movie is one of the greatest film achievements of all-time.

Okay went to Target today and of course they were out of The Wizard of Oz. I asked an employee if they had any more and I was greeted with the usual attitude of "All we have is out." I then asked for a raincheck and was told by him and the department manager that Target does not issue ANY rainchecks for ANY product anymore. Wouldn't budge on that.

Preparing a very pointed email to Target as we speak.

It's the temporary price cuts/drops that won't be raincheckable.

I'd suggest going back to Target and trying again to get a raincheck, since they are supposed to provide them on sale items.

I picked one up on Thursday without any issue at all for the copies they didn't have. From what I've been seeing, I think this version is the one I want, since I can live without the digital copy plus the collector's extras.

If Amazon gets this version in cheaper than $34.99 before 45 days, I'll pick it up there, otherwise, I'll get it at Target before the raincheck expires.

I won't argue with you on that. Wizard Of Oz would have been amazing if they could of done it in 2.35:1. Sadly the tech wasn't there to do it back then but regardless you are correct on it being one of the greatest film achievements. Regardless of aspect ratio that can't be taken away.

When a movie this old gets turned into blu ray.....what does it look and sound like? :whistle2:s I understand the 4:3, but what about the picture quality and sound?
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/new...k_at_the_Restoration_of_The_Wizard_of_Oz/3397

That will explain a bit about the behind the scenes of the restoration for this Blu-Ray release of Wizard Of Oz.
Watched it this evening, absolutely unbelievable.

The only bummer is that when you get these fantastic reference versions of the film it makes the dozens of hours of extras in SD harder to watch.

I know that sounds elitist but honestly I have an old 720p and the difference has become so significant that I really enjoy totally HD discs now.

Well I got a canned response back in email and I couldn't make it back to Target today to try to get another rain-check. Oh well, if Target doesn't want my money that bad, then I don't need the movie that bad then either. I have a feeling the "limited" sets will still be around for a while, and might see a price drop.

In case anyone was still on the lookout for a deal on this one,

Best Buy has the Blu Ray Ultimate Collectors Edition (the big box) at the 30% off price of $44.95 this week.

I watched it tonight and wow. For a 70 year old movie, it's looking good!

I noticed things I've never noticed before, like when they first meet the lion and Judy Garland is helping to wipe his tears, she almost cracks up, I could see her trying not to laugh, and then she is able to keep going in the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has posted info about the different sets. I love the movie but the price is too much in this economy IMO.

I want the Target "3-disc Emerald Edition" or better for under $20.

Hopefully sometime middle or late next year we will see it for under $20. I can wait until then. Who knows, maybe there will be a nice BF deal this year.

I had to check my raincheck for Wizard Of Oz, and it's still good until 11/16/09. Guess I have a couple more weeks to go pick it up.

with that logic, isn't everything too expensive in this economy?

I looked for this at Target, don't see any copies anywhere.

i'm not going to dig through 4 pages but I picked up the movie at wal mart for 20 bucks. it is essentialy the first disk the in ultimate edition and has deleted scenes and a few other extras. good enough for me.

There's always the UK and Australian Blu-Ray "Wizard of Oz: Sing-a-long Edition" which are 3 discs and cost about $28-$32 from Amazon UK after shipping. Unfortunately the artwork is beyond shitty.
