hey, im wondering, im getting a GBA here, and im going to HONG KONG for vacationing, well guest what? hong kong is where im getting my games. wondering if the imported games in hong kong work with my GBA? btw i didnt get my gba yet, cause i dont know to get it here, or hong kong because i dont want the imported games to be useless. thanks

Yes, GBA games are not region coded if you will. I got some out of UK before and it works fine. Just remember the charge adapter will be different for the country you buy it in. That't the only difference.

yea, plus i got those weird adaptor things so i can use it in foreign contries, like i got my cell fone and its imported so it came with the adaptor that works in US outlets but not in foreign countries, and you plug it in the adaptor that has two like pole things

ok now i know i can buy a GBA here and go there and stock up on all those $5 dollar games. but which IMPORT games are good? cause i cant read the foreign language, but besides that, its pretty simple to start some game like mario import. no rpgs or anything like that where i cant read the text :X remember its hong kong so its probally japanese import, anyone got suggestions?

You do know they are bootlegs?

Yeah...all those five dollar games are in "GBA" cases but they arent real...my friend got a game from japan on his trip there and it had 6 games on one cartridge (this was 5 years ago) he had pokemon yellow and ninja turtles and things of that nature...but he could read japanese because well...he was japanese...I would just buy regular games there..they are a little cheaper seeing as the conversion rates and all...plus I would buy one of the other colors of GBA SP they have, or PS2...just as a keepsake...

oh really? so if i get like a GBA there it doesnt have that region code shit or whatever? so its like a hongkong GBA or japanese one, and can play US games? vice versa? thats nice.. yea i know about those 21 in one games, those are fun because im not really a gamer, i travel alot so i need something to play when i get board besides crossword puzzles

no GBA has region protection. Any game from any region can be played in any GBA.

You can get real games in Hongkong but chances are they'll be imports from the UK or japan and coast an arm and a leg if it's real, but anything else are copies and will play fine unless the cartridges are made with low quality which is always possible with bootlegs. (no they probably will not harm your GBA)

It's up to you to decide to use them or not.

hmmph, i think ima bring my GBA and test the games at the shops, like see if they are worth it.. i look like someone who lives in hong kong, yes im chinese -__-; because i will brag them to let me see it, bargain? in chinese? :) USE THE ASIAN PERSUASION!!

careful dude, all those games are knockoffs..Hong Kong isnt called the piracy central of the world for no reason, y'know.

The only problem I've had with bootlegs was that Golden Sun didn't save. The guy who sold it to me then sent me another copy and I sold the first copy to Gamecrazy. Unethical I know. Point is that out of 5 different bootlegs only one caused a problem and an easily resolved problem. Bootleg games are not the huge problem that some people make them out to be and can save you money. The only difficulty with them is that they have little to no resell value but as long as you are buying them for yourself you shouldn't have a problem.

Also, in case you want to check, bootlegs have a darker color and don't have a small imprint code (2 digit stamped number) in the lower right hand corner.

oh thats cool, but if i do get bootleg, which i probally will, ima get those games where i can pick up n play, unlike an rpg, something you dont have to read, but just play like puzzle bobble? or racing games, shooting (side scroller is fav), and platform :) super mario import. or bootleg :p
ok thanks for the tip dhrez

Do not buy bootleg GBA games. I have seen so many of them not able to save and Nintendo will not help you. Spend the $10-$30 and buy the game the right way.

Yeah I think it's time to quite down the bootleg talk here becuase while it may be your only choice for purchases in HK you arnt there yet and can still buy original games which is the PREFERRED method for a commercial site like CaG.

Buy a GBA and search for some cheap games here to play on the plane and dont concern yourself with the bootlegs or at the very least don't openly disscuss them here.
