World of Warcraft Pre-Order $30.00 at walmart.com

Never buy an MMORPG in the first 6 months of release. Voice of experience here...

This cannot be taken as a rule. I played City of Heroes right after release and never had any problems, it was excellent. And seeing the amount of beta testing they are doing for WOW, I am betting it is going to be a solid launch.

The whole system of MMORPGs sucks. But you know what, I don't think it will go on much longer. I think in the future, a little ways off, internet technology will continue to improve and the home user will have access to even more bandwith.

Its possible the internet will eventually become so fast that home users could host current MMORPGs on one or two home servers and in the end that would mean that companies really couldnt get away with charging 13 dollars a month because any idiot could host the game.

I think they're charging for the maintenance of the game servers. If that could be taken away...what, they'd charge for piss-poor monthly updates? I don't think so.

Your right it looks like it might be the sub card, because theres an actual link that goes to a game for 49.99, but then the 29$ one also says the game, prolly a mistake.

Sure it can be taken as a rule. You have to realize that there are only so many people willing to pay to play. Companies today make very few strides towards growing the MMO market. Rather, they look to take the biggest slice of the existing pie for themselves. Consequently, whenever a new game comes out, you'll see its population spike big time, especially for big name games like CoH and WoW. Between 3-6 months, a lot of players that signed up for the gimmicks will grow tired and leave the game, as will many of the powerlevelers and other 'band wagon' players.

In addition, bugs and balance issues usually get their most dramatic fixes early on. No matter how big the beta was, it's a whole different world when a game goes live.

Basically, the whole game experience doesn't begin to show its true form until approximately 6 months after launch. Sometimes it's sooner, sometimes it's later (eg Anarchy Online).

edit: I need to brush up on "its/it's" big time.

Hey, those people that play Everquest early and were smart were making big buck on ebay. Myself here made a few thousand off ebay and I didn't play until it was out a year or two.

Ah but that's a risk. What about the people who played Horizons or Earth & Beyond early? E&B closed down, and a lot of later MMOs (such as Horizons) have very active subscriptions now.

Oh, you also have to deal with the fact that if you sell accounts/items/etc from online games on eBay or any other place, you usually violate the EULA for those games. If you're ever discovered, especially by the big boys like Sony or EA, they zap your account.

Sony was trying to shut the ebay thing down and they actually did it. Ebay wouldn't allow anyone to auction stuff from EQ, but then people from ebay move to yahoo auction. Sony go after yahoo too, but then they move from yahoo to playerauction and I think people are still using playerauction now. Well, you should go with game with great review and lot of publicity. WoW should be a big hit. EQ is still going strong now. Sure game such as Matric Online and CoH, you should wait and see the reviews.

yeah wow ffxi and eq you should have no problem buying. The others i wouldnt do but thx for letting me know there is a sub card! now imma def get it cuz i can just buy a sub card for certain amount of months and get it over with. I love it like that.

Actually if you were to actually play an MMORPG it would save you money, because you wouldn't have time to buy or play any other games. Whether that is good or bad is up to you to decide.

WOW does look to be more complete than other MMORPG's have been on release. It will be a different game in 6 months than at launch, but it will be a different game at a 1 year than at 6 months, that is just a given for the type of game. Most beta threads I have read say its ready for release right now, as opposed to SWG where the beta testers were shocked to hear it was being released. Point is you can read people's opinions right now as WOW does not have an NDA, and I think they are even having open beta right now if you want to try before you buy.

I will still probably wait a few weeks atleast to pick it up, maybe more as I don't have the comp to play it anyways.

EQ was the closest thing to a job playing video games many of us could have gotten, when it first started(I betad EQ and played for 2 1/2 years) plat/dollar was about 1:1 ratio when it first started. When a game first comes out you can sell stuff for alot of money, no doubt WoW will be the same. Anyways at the end of 2 months if WoW is as boring as all the other MMORPGs that has come out(except EQ) you can sell your account for at least 50$ to get your original investment back. I sold my Star Wars, L2, Horizons, EQ for over 200$ each after I was done with them.

Oh and funny thing I saw this on TechTV the Screen Savers, that little dork the dark tipper guy had this as a hot deal, he didnt give credit to where he found it no slickdeals, no FW, no CAG, what a punk.

Wow!! 1:1 ratio?? That is crazy. When I play it was more of 1:10 ratio, but I was newbie at the time and didn't have much platnum.

Someone has called and they said they would honor that price! Congrats to all who saved 20 bucks! Now where can I find a 20 dolla hooker

Tell me about it. Before Sony took It's first swipe at eBay, many people were making a living off EQ. I've heard of people making of up towards $20 an hour just farming in EQ at one time, which is insane for a online video game and twice what people get to slave away in retail.

I also made some money on eBay during the early stages of Diablo 2. I was making about $200-$400 every two weeks selling items on eBay. It was a dream come true, I was making money by PLAYING A GAME. The only problem was I couldn't put it down as a job reference, and I never knew when I would get laid off (aka items would stop selling for so much on eBay/dupes came in) or I would hit a slump (not being able to find good items at all, working OT).
