Well, being an avid player of the series since Winning Eleven 6. I have to say that the gameplay improvements to WE9 over WE8 are pretty minor so far. The CPU AI has increased and plays tough without resorting to cheating. I have to say the Konami seems to make the is game more realistic every year. The graphics are just a tad better than last year but at least the animation of the character models has improved. The slowdown the use to plague the PS2 version on corner kicks is now gone. No drastic improvements in presentation other than their are just a ton of editing options for teams. With the available tools you can accurately make any soccer team in the world from the uniforms they wear to the actual soccer shoes their players use. It's like a game within itself editing and making your very own soccer team. Master League is back in all it's full glory.

The best addition to the WE series has to be the online play. I have the PS2 version and have been playing online all weekend and the game plays great. There is barely any lag and it's like your opponent is right their playing in your living room. You also have the option to play online co-op. So if you have a friend, invite them over and play on the same team online. There are no online leagues or tournaments but maybe next year.

I'll write up a full review of the game for the Review section sometime but if your a fan of soccer games. I have to recommend WE9.

the only thing i will ever hate about the WE series is its licensing. I know they just got Arsenal, Chelsea and the Intalian Serie A league but it would be nice to have the whole Premier League intact...It sucks that i cant use my Liverpool Reds...and have to use some fake team...Other than that its the perfect soccer game..

Are there a bunch of fansites for WE games where people have uploaded saves of complete teams?

You know how people every year edit the NCAA football and basketball games?

Picked up the xbox version the day it came out and finally had a chance to play it on Live. There was no lag whatsoever and everything ran smoothly. One of the things that I'm working on improving is the ball control and passing system since Konami has done an excellent job in terms of ball physics.

Also, It's much easier to score from long distance this time around and the refs are way too sensitive IMO. When you try to strip the ball from the opposing player in a shoving match they'll blow the wistle and call the foul on you which is very frustrating. Overall I'm enjoying the game, specially with the addition of online play.

There are game saves that update the rosters and import all the actual emblems and sponsers for the kit. I've figured out how to convert the option files from Pro Evolution Soccer 5 to Winning Eleven 9 International. The option file I use has all the accurate Jerseys for the non license teams and all the accurate international jerseys for the national team. Better yet, the person that made the option file also created all the teams that are taking part of Champions League. It's pretty amazing what people are doing with the WE9 editor and the various PC WE editors on the net. If you want I can post my optionfile for download. I'm currently fixing all the international goal keeper jerseys once I'm done with that it should be finished.

What version of firmware do you need to play it?

Eh, I'd rather get it on consoles since they took out modes from this version and it takes like a minute for each loading screen, but if you've got to have a soccer handheld game, I guess this wouldent be so bad.

I enjoyed Winning Eleven 7 on PS2, so I'll eventually pick up the Xbox version of 9...

Yeah i want to pick this one up too..i really liked 7 and i like the whole master league they have and it really sticks to realism of soccer unlike fifa where you can score 20 goals easy..

I have to say I'm really liking the online mode right now. It's works so well, they need to add online tournaments and leagues in the next WE. I think once you play online WE you might not go back to playing ML. They have all the users broken up into divisional rankings. At the end of each week, depending on how many wins you rack up online you can get promoted into a higher division. This also allows you to figure out who you should be playing against since people in you current division are probably similarly skilled than you. Anyway, just want to let you know that I think WE9 has finally added a new feature that rivals or even surpasses the fun of Master League.

Aw you're killing me man! I have to get a network adapter (have to make the trip to Best Buy, since it's $20 there I think)...The divisions in online mode was a big surprise to me, since I didn't see ANY mention of any online features before seeing the game manual! I was/am hoping for Konami to set up some sort of tourney for World Cup tickets, but pshaw, like that'll happen ...I think Konami set up a tournament facilitating site (www.proevorankings.com) for PES5, but yeah, being able to set up an online Master League with 10 people or something would be great!

I heard on pesinsight.com, from someone who got the latest UK OPM that PES6 will have Liverpool licensed, so there's that for you Reds fans.

Is there a WE9 PS2 option file with edited teams/name fixes available? I bought an X-port last year especially for WE...

EDIT: Also, I've noticed X tackles are much less effective than O (slide) tackles?! This'll take some getting used to

If anyone wants the Optionfile early just send my your email via PM and I'll send it to you. Just let me know was format you want, xport or maxdrive.

My optionfile is for the PS2 but I think I might know a way to convert Xbox PES5 optionfiles to WE9I optionfile for Xbox. I'll need a test subject since I don't have WE9I for xbox.

BTW, the option file I got from dwevan has some pretty extensive edits. The classic teams have been replace with the under 21 teams for those nations. This has been done to prevent classic players from the teams and the WE shop to show up in Master League. Much more realistic that way.
