Released in 1999, the game is still receiving updates (although not directly from Team17 anymore), which have added enough features to keep the online community humming away, and even make it grow!

Single player:

33 missions, 5 training modes, quickmatch, deathmatch.

Multiplayer:

Hotseat, LAN, direct IP, WormNET.

WormNET features an IRC-style chat interface (which can be accessed without booting the game via "snooper" software), and "HostingBuddy", which allows firewalled players to create games. Up to 6 players (plus one spectator) and 32 worms are supported, as well as teams.

Gameplay:

2D turn-based strategy.

Use 63 different weapons & utilities to kill or drown the opposing team of worms. Includes everything from the lowly Prod & Handgun to the nearly game breaking French Sheep Strike & Concrete Donkey!

Fully destructible environments.

Play on pre-made maps (including those found in the missions), randomly generated maps (with the latest update, the # of these has increased to over 4 billion!), or create your own via a PNG image! An update from a few years ago also increased the maximum map size exponentially!

Create your own gametypes via dozens of different options including weapon power, crate chance percentage, and access delay, which can be applied to each weapon individually!

A high-accuracy physics engine featuring wind, friction, and gravity play an important role. Hardcore players use this to great advantage.

Broaden the gameplay with the all-purpose Ninja Rope. Zip around the map to collect crates, push worms, and bounce of off walls!

Go to the darkside via blowtorch tunneling & girder forts.

Change the fuse length and bounce level of grenades.

Choose or create your own voicebanks (sadly not supported online... yet!) worm/team names, gravestones, and avatars!

Expand the game even further with third-party software such as WormKit (home of the physics-bending Rubberworm), and Fiddler, which can pump up weapon power to completely insane levels! Both of these can be used online (although Rubberworm requires all players to have it).

A great ambient soundtrack, a lovely sense of humor, and a wild art style add the finishing touches to this all-time classic. ;)

Please buy the game (a favourite line from one of the update developers when confronted with yet another pirate asking for help on the official forum) from either Amazon or eBay. :idea:

P.S. The game requires VERY little computing power when running at a low resolution, and is supported by EVERY version of Windows! \\:D/
