Why post if you consider it the worst deal?
the reason is that it's just my opinion. i know madden is an automatic day 1 buy for a lot of people so i figured they'd take advantage of this "deal"

No. It's the one that's re-released every year with roster updates.

Oh, Okies.
Only Sports Game I've Played to Mario 3 on 3, and Strikers Charged.
Which, as you know, I suck.

If more of the cynics actually played the game they would notice the obvious changes, but I guess it's just easier to follow the bandwagon and say "EA sux lol" than having an informed opinion.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

QFT... it had a couple of off years (06 and 07) in my opinion, but 08 is a huge step up from any other game in the series. And the review scores (i.e. people who actually played the game) seem to echo those sentiments as well.

Wasn't madden 05 the 15th anniversary? shouldn't this be the 19th anniversary, then?

When they actually update madden with something significant, like a deeper superstar mode or an expanded online mode, I might buy it again. Until then I'll pass on it.

IT'S THE 20TH ANNIVERSITY MADDEN! IT'S GOING TO HAVE THE BEST GRAPHICS EVER! SEE YOU ON THE MADDEN BUS! WHOOO!

LoL!

I have Amazon Prime, so if I really need this I'll be pre-ordering it and getting free two-day shipping. I can wait a day if it means no sales tax.

I've been playing the series for years and aside from the graphical updates and tougher A.I. I don't see the series improving in any significant way.

I really don't see the point of tying up that kind of money with EB/GS when you can pretty much walk into any retailer and buy it on day one. This is how EB makes it's money. They have you fork over your cash, they earn interest on your money for a game you can buy anywhere when it's released.

I don't care if Madden 08/09 gives me a 'happy ending' or even super powers, but after getting burned/screwed on 06 and 07, I say to hell with the Madden Franchise.

I'm not hating, but after getting the short end of the stick 2 years in a row, I wash my hands of this franchise.

Anyways, back on topic and my personal views aside, thanks for posting, OP. I'm sure there will be some people that will take advantage of this.

I wouldnt bother I believe this game will be canceled. My sources say folks just realized they have been buying same game for 20 years and EA fears this could be another E.T. Also I hear FPS games days are numbered and the return of platformer is coming.

HAHAHA not according to the eTard Madden 'scalpers'...according to their eBay auctions and craigslist ads, "MADDEN '08 '07 '06 etc. WILL BE SOLD OUT FOR WEEKS BUT WE HAVE IT FOR ONLY $30 OVER RETAIL"

Classic.

As for the game itself, until you can play minigames where you shank and shoot people and cut cheerleaders' / white girlfriends' heads off, it will never be worthy of 2K. Add all the lame ass "manager" modes - head coach, GM, owner, offensive line coach, fat ass fan with season tickets, etc. until they get a "keep your thug and criminal players out of jail mode" it will be nothing but a roster update.

They should have at least added a Michael Vick dog fighting minigame where you have your dogs fight and/or "test" them, and if they suck, you have to choke them while electrocuting them with a cattle prod shoved up their butt. That and a trial mode where you have to assemble a legal dream team to defend Vick and keep him out of prison and on your team. Or at least offer it as downloadable content.

Plus a Sean Taylor sidescrolling adventure where you get him out of his mansion during a home invasion robbery without getting shot.

the funny thing is i think madden 05 was the apex of the franchise. it had great defensive controls that kept scores low and the games more realistic. Now with next gen madden they have gone so far backwards with control ability and announcing and other small things that the fun factor is almost entirely gone.
put tom brady on the cover !!! >: )
lulzzerz...how about Jessica Simpson on the cover with Tony ROOOOOOOOOOWWWW-MOOOOOOOOOOOWWW

Did they finally add a QB spy that worked in 05?
I think I'm confusing 04 and 05. I just remember one of those years the QB containment was terrible, so mobile QBs were impossible to stop. Then the next year they finally made the linemen and linebacker AI smart enough to actually contain the QB rather than chase.

I thought they didn't charge until it shipped.

They don't, so his comment is utter nonsense in this context... if anything, you're acquiring an option to buy it a later date, or you can simply cancel, with no funds being tied up in the process.

Madden 2009? Man, I'm still all about QB Club on the N64, now that is football!

Anyways, this is an ok deal if you live nowhere near retail stores that sell video games on the day of release (which is definitely possible), can be alot cheaper than gas to still get it quicker than free shipping w/ Amazon or something..

Well, if there ever was a game you KNEW would be coming out and could be safe pre-ordering, it's Madden.

That's all I can say about this in a positive sense...

1) Yeah, they don't charge you until the game actually is packaged and shipped out, so no money is being tied up.

2) What was wrong with the Ghostbuster deal? I pre-ordered it. Yeah, it's due out in October, but what the hell. If a collector's edition is announced, I will just cancel the pre-order.

I guess I'm with the group that thinks Madden 08 was such a nice leap forward that I didn't cry after I bought it.

wow this is some sad ass poor marketing skills, lol "we dont know anything about the game" lol its like

hey just buy this game early, if it's a peice of shit we dont care! you can have it!

I think the radio narrator for Madden 08 killed it for me. I miss Madden narrating the obvious. Should have just gone with NCAA 08 in the first place.

Aside from that, I'm wondering who'll be victim of the Madden curse for '09.

Madden and EA Sports in general needs to step it up for the new generation.

Sports games should look a lot better than they currently do.
You LOST money?
why not? easy achievements with the falcons on rookie and 10 minute quarters

I've heard of much worse deals than free shipping - I like it when stores list games on "sale" at full MSRP plus tax. No that's a worse deal!

How are they gaining interest on our money?

I fail to see the logic on that one. It's not like this deal is a part of a payment plan or anything.

They would only profit on the interest if they took money in advance of your actual purchase from you, as is the case with their B&M stores.

Haven't played Madden since '94 on SNES (I believe) where crowd cheers and jeers were 2 second loops. Don't plan on playing the franchise again anytime soon.

I stick with my man Mario (Superstar Baseball, Hoops 3 on 3, Strikers, etc.) so I know my games will retain a resale value once I'm done with them. Try trading in/eBaying your Madden 07 PS2/Xbox?GC? now and getting the same value as a Mario sports game.

Anyway, having Madden 09 on the site long in advance of its release date. Damn...

Wasn't madden 05 the 15th anniversary? shouldn't this be the 19th anniversary, then?

I believe so. I distinctly remember Ray Lewis being on the cover of the game the year they had the special edition (for the PS2 only).

Maybe EA's doing some 'fuzzy chronology' nonsense because of the dip in sales last year and what's sure to be the year where even the GTA/Madden crowd is mostly converted over to the 360/PS3. Oops, sorry SDFers, I meant the PS3/360. No need for CQC moves.
