Worst New Game Ever Bought?

For those that think Halo 2 is the biggest waste of their game-buying careers...yikes. You either buy nothing but completely amazing games for rock-bottom prices, or you're exaggerating a bit so you can take another dig at Halo 2. To each their own, I suppose.
That's exactly what it is. Halo 2 is popular and fun so it must have a giant backlash against it. Its a rule with anything popular in media. Look at music - there's a whole group of people out there who think ANY song played on the radio sucks, simply because its popular enough to be played on the radio.

Don't worry about these people who hate on Halo 2 all day long. In their eyes, you're not a real gamer unless you're playing old Dreamcast imports or something. F*ck 'em.
Yeah, shaq-fu everyone who didn't like Halo 2, how ignorant is that? I actually like some of the "popular" games. Games like the Grand Theft Auto series and Madden I can enjoy and they seem pretty damn popular. Did I once say anyone wasn't a real gamer for enjoying Halo 2? I find it wildly amusing how personal fans of the game get when someone says they don't like it. And if you get worried about people disliking your favorite game, then you have serious issues. I only replied to the topic created.
Notice I directed the "f you" to people who, and I quote myself on this, "hate on Halo 2 all day long". I never directly said YOU man. I'm just sick of those people who need to find every Halo related thread, or any thread that could be about Halo, and turn it into a "I HATED IT! OVERRATED!"

Just imagine your favorite game of all time, and any time there's a thread about it on this forum, you get the same 10 people who have to remind you how much they disliked it. You see what I mean? That's who the "f you" is directed to.

I would have to say Halo 2 and Turok Evo. I really regret buying those two games. I dont regret paying 50 for any SC's or RS3's... I dont even regret buying Sega GT 2002 compared to Halo 2.

Alright, thats cool then. Whenever I reply to a thread on Halo 2 anywhere on the internet I immediately get heat for it, probably the same way you see the same people bashing in every Halo thread.

I hear ya...at least it wasn't my money though.

am i the only person who enjoyed that game? i played that so man times when i first got my 64.

Most recent regret was Star Fox Adventures for $50.

Most regretted purchase was Pen Pen TriIceLon, which I ended up selling for like $1 (which I also regret...I'd never play it, but I shoulda kept it)
What is the worst game you spent $50 or more for and regretted later?
Soldier Of Fortune(PS2)pre-online

I'm probably going to date myself here, but.....I paid $84 for Swords of Vermillion (Sega Genesis for the too young to remember) and the guide book. Man, that was a long time ago at Babbages. Was piece of crap, all the bosses were dragons that were palet swapped. I still have the "chump" stamp on my forehead.

You want something more embarrassing. I remember actually liking that game.

Well it should hold up. The system specs were so high for the time you basically needed to import a computer from the future to play it. ;)

I paid $1.98 for Ultima 8 and that was too much!
Ultima: Ascension (Dragon Edition): 69.99

While it came with the Ultima Anthology, a few of which I can play with modern emulators, and also the soundtrack on cd and a ton of cool extras, the game itself was not very good. Buggy as hell, actually. Still, graphically, it still somehow holds up.
No you're not. I really enjoyed that game, too. The parts in space where you were in the turret shooting down TIEs and asteroids was great. What was the name of the lead btw?

One of the only ones i can come up with recently would be Project: Snowblind. I figured that since it got some good reviews, it would be ok. Inevitably, it didn't live up to my expectations. I have played too much Halo 2 on XBL (which is really fun, and I can also see how some people wouldn't enjoy it) that any new FPS need to compare to it. Most don't seem too. Luckily I only paid $30, and received $25 from EBgames, so it wasn't too bad. (Picked up Ikaruga with that credit).

Looking back now, I'd also say Enter the Matrix. I was blind to how bad it was when it first came out, but since then, I've learned to not bend to the hype a game gets.

Black and White for PC. Uuurgh. I probably would've liked it better if Peter Molyneux didn't promise the moon and deliver a cheese sandwich. If I hadn't seen all the previews where he said all that I probably would've picked it up for $30 later and liked it more.
Mechassault 2 was up there, but I got it off retail site and got back $20 store credit for it..

I'd have to say Legend of Dragoon. I wanted an RPG and sony's hype machine got me. Terrible, terrible game..
wow an here i thought legend of draggon waz a good game !!!

Raw for the xbox, played it a lot, but after playing the wwf n64 games back in the day, the game was pretty lame.

then got Raw 2, but waited a couple days and my friend at EB got it for me for 35 bucks, another let down

Wrestlemania XXI looks good, but I learned my lesson and will definetly rent this one first

I'd take a cheese sandwich anyday. It's grilled though right? Grilled cheese sandwich? Yum.

I've paid full price for many a game, so I'm sure there are a few I could list. However, the ones that spring immediately to mind for me are more recent.

Some of the games listed here, however, I enjoyed. I can count the number of FPS games I have owned on one hand, but I have sunk countless hours into Halo 2 online since getting Live in January. Also, I bought Yoshi's Story after renting it and playing through it. I still enjoyed it a lot.

As for the games I overpaid for...

Mortal Kombat: Deception- I bought this at Toys R Us during the buy 2 get 1 free sale at the end of October. I didn't have an Xbox yet, but I was getting one soon, and I figured, "Hey, I loved MK 1-4, and I can play this one online!" I spent $60 on the Kollector's Edition and played it maybe 4 times. It was horrible. Luckily, I got a decent $30 from Game Rush for it which went toward Resident Evil 4.

SVC Chaos- Got this at the same sale as MKD. Most of the games I wanted were sold out, but I played a demo of this and it was really fun. I also loved Capcom vs. SNK 2 on DC and all the old SF games. I ended up hating this one, and I only could get $16 for it from Game Crazy, which went toward Halo 2.

Donkey Kong 64- Not really a bad game. It was very fun... Until I couldn't continue on to the next level without collecting 4 special DK coins, 500 different colored bananas, the Ark of the Covenant, and a feather from hermaphrodite archaeopteryx with a forked tongue. Tedious item collection= me never playing it again.

Sonic Heroes- It was fun for a while, but way too glitchy. I'd say it's above average, but worth no more than $20. It was certainly nothing compared to the Dreamcast games.

WCW Thunder- I actually bought a PlayStation for this. Read that again. I BOUGHT A PLAYSTATION TO PLAY WCW THUNDER. I had chosen the N64 a year or 2 prior, and I loved the wrestling games on that system. Hell, I love nearly any wrestling game. I own just about every wrestling game for every system I have and I enjoy even the supposed crappy ones. But I got Thunder and a PSX after seeing the game for rent at family Video. "Wow, full motion videos!" I thought to myself. "Changing wrestlers from WCW to nWo to Raven's Flock! Righteous!" It turned out that you could go into a collar and elbow tie-up (basic lockup) and mash buttons until the opponent's energy drained completely. Yes, you could finish an entire match in 10 seconds with one lockup. fuck that.

xbox.. FABLE.. the biggest waste of $50 ever.. I traded it in thd next day & got $35 back...

I just hate how magazine reviews rate this so high, but almost 90% of the people on this forum hates this...
Worst game bought at full price would have been Eternal Ring or Evergrace, picked them up right after the PS2 launch.
Alot of RPG's @ launch suck cause they are so rushed...

I will bet anything that untold legends for PSP will sucks as well...
State of Emergency... Scorch is the proud owner of my copy now.
 so that's why you were so eager to give it away! Damn, man.. why the hate on this game? I love it!

Exactly. I'm right at the end, too. I just have to play through the DK arcade game.

It was a let down after Peter M. hyped it up so much and took away a lot of the features he originally inteded.

I traded it in a week later on a pre-order for Forza Motorsport...man I look forward to that game!!!!!!!!!

I would have to add another old game that not many people will remember... Icarus for the PC. I kept getting stuck in the same place and having to start over and boost my stats. Also, the movement for combat sucked!

SouthPark Rally - N64 ;$40...the most horrible racing game I've ever played

Big Mutha Truckers - GC ; Friend gave it to me....I use it as a coaster...don't want rings on the furniture...

Enter the Matrix - GC ; $50...Huge let down. No replay value, although the hack the matrix cheat thingy kept me entertained more than the actual game, in no way was it worth what I paid for it.

I was so hyped about malice from the time it was first anouced as Xbox exclusive and with No Doubt doing the music and voice overs. And everytime it got cancled. Then when it finally came out what a disapointment. I beat it in 6 hrs and it sucked, everything about it sucked I still dont know why I kept on playing it.

Vampire: The Masquerade-Redemption

This game was hyped to be the second coming during the PC Renaissance of RPG's (Torment, Fallout, Baldur's Gate 2) but it was absolutely awful. I spent fifty on it, and since it was PC, I couldn't return it.

What I really resented was the Collector's Edition vs. Regular Edition phase that this game (and I) bought into. After the purchase, I swore that I'd never pay for any sort of tin box/pewter figure/soundtrack CD/cloth map/whatever other crap that costs an extra $10 again.

Here's a review I wrote on it for GameFAQS after the purchase...

Worst game I paid $50 for this generation; Gunvalkyrie. Yes, I really did get this game on release day. Play magazine hyped this game so much, it was Sega. Man, I hate this game. I know some can handle the clicking and turning but I can't, I'm horrible at it.

Worst game I ever paid more than $50 for had to be Turok 2 or 3. I can't remember which one, came out in 1999. Anyways I got it for $70 or $80 and good god did that game suck major ass.

I know I already posted before, but I remembered a game worse then State of Emergency. It was WWF Attitude for N64. I had played WWF Warzone to death, spending countless hours in CAW, etc. I was really hyped up for WWF Attitude. Since this was before I started working, I had begged my Mom for the money for it ($69.99!) She finially caved in and bought it for me. I remember I played 1 match, turned off my N64, and felt terrible because I made her $70 on such a shitty game. The wrestlers maybe had like 6-7 different moves each, it was so identical to Warzone it was pathetic. We ended up selling it on eBay to my surprise, $65, so all ended well.

After that, she told my ass to get a job!

I have everyone on here beat... I paid full price for the...
INXS: Make my Video game for the sega CD when it came out

got maybe 5 hours total playing time out of it too

bread's done
