Would this SSD work on a PS3?

From my research you'll see the most noticeable performance boost for things that don't involve the BD drive: psn games and game demos. Game installs and regular loading are marginally faster.
 
It looks as though Sony has capped a lot of the PS3's functionality in regards to HDD speed so that most everything game related will see little to no benefit. (so installs, load times, seek times, and so forth) As zenprime notes; anything involving the BD drive will simply be hampered and bottlenecked by it.

Where you'll see some difference is with standard non-game related file transfers and the like.

You'd benefit most from any acoustic and/or heat footprint being lessened but all of the PS3 SSD testing seems to conclude that it just ain't worth the price of admission.

It's not that Sony intentionally capped the speeds, it's that the blu-ray drive has a very slow read speed, so installs and load times, which all read from the disc, are still pretty slow.

OP, unless you play a lot of downloaded games, and you're sick of slow load times with them, don't spend any extra for a SSD.

I was more speaking to their decision to stick with SATA 1.5 Gb/s instead of upgrading to 3.0/6.0/etc. with the newer hardware revisions.
