WTB 27" HDTV for Game Playing

Hello,

I have a small entertainment center and was wondering what would be the best 27" HDTV to get.

TV will be mostly used for playing games (XBox, PS2, GCN, Future Consoles)
DVDs Second
Satelite programming 3rd (don't worry about this though)

any opinions?

BB keeps having a sale every other week on th 27' htdv advent brand tv
399.99-449.99 depending on if its on sale.

normal price is 449.99.


they only have 2 27inch hdtv's to chose from
advent and panasonic.

panasonic is 499-549.99

depending on a sale or not.

well it says "compatible" because you still need to buy a hdtv tuner for hdtv picture.

half of all hdtv's now have built in hdtv tuners. but the other half still dont come with them built in.

Aha, I stand corrected. I thought all HDTV's needed the box. DIdn't know that some have it built in now.

Don't need the tuner. I work for a satellite provider and can get the rcvr

Any noticable differences between the Advent and the Panny?

The tuner is only needed if you plan to get RF broadcasts. In many area this is an exercise in futility. Any serious source of HD contetent will include the necessary hardware to talk to the monitor.

You do need to define what you mean by HD. A lot of cheap HD monitors are only capable of a true 720P and have to convert 1080i on the fly. THis can look very bad with genuine 1080i games.

If you don't have a good amount of genuine HD material coming in on the satellite feed you may want to hold off on the HDTV [urchase. Although prices are getting much better the big revolution has yet to arrive. In the meantime you can get a very large screen with line doubling built-in to deliver an excellent picture with NTSC material and save up towards a full featured HD screen when they reach the right price point.

One thing that will have a major effect is the mainstream acceptance of a HD-DVD format. THis will give sales a major boost and bring prices way down as production volumes can then be increased. The next generation consoles should have a lot more games with HD mode support and that too will serve to drive sales.
