WTF AOL, Greatest American
Because he has a gold wheel chair?
He actually had a reputable freedom of speach Supreme Court case with his laywer... Edward Norton.
Hey...
Why isn't Cheapy on the list!!!
yeah, cheapy should be here, thanks to him, 30,000 people save hundreds on video games, each year
Bill Cosby has some significance, civil rights work and stuff. If thats the case than Ozzie Davis should be on there
bill cosby is a nasty man in general, my dad worked for the airport, and apparently this guy was always a complete asshole
What about Samuel Colt?
... And for that matter what about Gen Bradley?
samuel colt, that is very debatable, and to put a gunsmith on the list would be a bit controversial
but im all for bradley, as well as any 5 star general, since they are patriots through and through

...airport? You mean....some airport where Cosby habitually caught flights? What an odd comment. If I wanted to find out what kind of person you are, should I ask one of your friends? One of your co-workers? Or the guy who works at your favorite Subway or dry cleaner?

..and what the heck is up with the f-word in all caps a few posts back. What the :censored: happened to the fuck auto-filter? Won't anyone think of the poor, innocent :censored:-ing children who visit this :censored:-ing site?

habitually caught flights, and my grandmother new him, from when he visited her old firm
Michael Moore? are you kidding me???
Wrong list. Same with the Bushes. They should have been on the Greatest American Fooking Idiot ;) (pours Gas on fire)

I don't want to sound like a jerk but if Ray Charles wasn't dead and if the movie Ray hadn't come out he wouldn't even be on the list.

Same with Tillman.
Same with Tillman.
yeah, pat tillman, is a patriot, but where are all the rest of the marines, the difference between him and the rest of em, is he stopped mid-career, but didnt the rest of them do that as well
yeah, pat tillman, is a patriot, but where are all the rest of the marines, the difference between him and the rest of em, is he stopped mid-career, but didnt the rest of them do that as well
He wasn't a marine and not to sound like an ass because I have nothing but respect for all soldiers in our armed services, but their careers probably were not worth millions and millions of dollars. That is a lot to give and go fight for something you believe in.

pat tillman risked his life, which includes his money, the rest of those soldiers were risking there lives as well, and as good as millions sound to a rich man, thousands sound just the same to a middle class man

Never said they weren't risking their lives...my point was he went to fight instead of sitting at home with his millions. you don't see many millionaries stepping up to fight in wars lately and that is what makes him unique enough to be on the list and really all soldiers fighting overseas deserve to be on the list too, but I'd say Tillman belongs there more so than the majority of others on the list and even if he was still alive I'd say he belongs on there more so than most of the others on there.

Really the best American would be the ones who killed the most native americans. Like it or not, thats how america became our country.
Now I am not advocating this so dont throw me onto the racist wagon yet again. its a fact.

True . . . if this poll was taken back in the 1800s. While it is a fact that the eradication of native population is an important, yet sad, part of our history it doesn't define us a country today. By your logic you could also say the best American is the person who killed the most Japanese during WWII, or the person who owned the most slaves.

grrr...Alexander Graham Bell was Canadian!

Honestly, when you look at some of the people across from each other, you see just how ridiculous some of these nominations are.

Clint Eastwood - Amelia Earhart
Thomas Edison - John Edwards
Alexander Hamilton - Tom Hanks

But here's the biggie:
Thomas Jefferson - Michael Jackson!

Lee Iacocca should also be on the list, considering the innovations he made to the automobile, and that he saved on of the big automobile manufacturers in America (hence saving many American jobs)
There are THREE Bush's on that list?!?!?!?! Vote Lance, baby!
So he can give steroids to all the little kids!

FDR or Eisenhower for sure.

You could use the term great, as it doesn't really indicate good or bad (ie. hitler was a great leader), but I wouldn't say best. Then again, I'm of the opinion that, if I had the chance, I would entirely reverse what we did to the natives. You shouldn't commit atrocities and then be proud of the result of those atrocities. And yes, I realize that the u.s. would likely not exist if that were the case.
grrr...Alexander Graham Bell was Canadian!
I've heard that a lot lately, and thought it was odd since I always assumed he was american. He was scottish, spent a lot of time in canada and the work behind the telephone was mostly done in canada, but was actually invented in the u.s. (not in brantford, ontario). He also taught and spent a decent amount of time in boston. Basically, he'd difficult for any country to outright claim as theirs.
None of the Bush's should even be allowed to sniff that list.
what about the band?
Yeah, that list is a tad bit off. Half the people on there need to be executed.
Save the obvious bush's,kerry's, clinton's, moore's, limbaugh's,actor's, athelete's, its not a bad list. Oh wait that is the list, Andrew Jackson would murder on that thing

AND DONALD TRUMP, THAT IS A SHAQ-FUING OUTRAGE

Reasons to hate donald trump:
He thinks he can run this country with no political experience.
The president he most identifies with is Ronald Reagan.
He has a fetish for Eastern European heavily accented women.
He is twice divorced.
He was 900 million dollars in debt.
He has a bad comb over.
He is twice divorced.
He does an effeminate hand gesture when he fires someone on 'The Apprentice.'
He likes to decorate ostentatiously.
He married Marla Maples after getting her pregnant.
He has a huge ego, making sure his name is prominent through out Manhattan and Atlantic City.
