Are you on a mac or a PC? If you're on a Mac, you can export your contacts in a particular file format and save that. If you're on a PC, I'm not sure how iTunes maintains contacts, as I always go to contacts on my mac to see if they've been synced properly.

You can always choose what to sync with the checkboxes in iTunes.

You have to keep the contract for a month or you give the phone back. If you wait a month and then upgrade you will have to pay the early upgrade fee which is an extra $200.

So:

$300 - 32gb 3GS
$70 - 1 month of service for the 3GS (just a number I threw out there)
$36 - Activation fee
$300 - 32gb iPhone 4
$200 - Early upgrade fee

+ ATT locks you in for 2 years.

so if you want to do what you stated above you will pay roughly $900 + be locked into a 2 year contract. If you want to terminate the iPhone 4 contract early and get away with 2 phones you will pay the cost of service for 1 month ($70 ish) and the early contact termination fee ($325).

You get away from ATT with 2 phones for $1300ish and ATT is laughing all the way to the bank.

For what it's worth, AT&T's profit on the iPhone itself (at least the current 3GS model) is roughly $20 when sold as an upgrade.
 
Are we going to be able to preorder at midnight the morning of the 15th online? Have they said anything about this? Much rather do that than go to the store.
 
preorders start tomorrow. sounds like youll be able to do it at att stores, apple stores, best buy and radio shack. if i had to pick one id pick radio shack, id imagine they will be quite a bit less busy than the other 3. wal mart will have it on launch day but wont be doing pre orders.
 
Got the 3GS at release and my contract expires 6/2011 yet i'm qualified for the $199/$299 prices with 2 year contract + $18 upgrade fee. I'm wanting the white 32gb version and very much hoping the black only launch rumor is false as i'm super impatient... Guess we will find out whenever Apple.com store comes back to life.

I'm not going to bother preordering. My 3G works fine, so I'll wait a few months on upgrading, if I do. I feel strangely sentimental toward my phone though since my mom bought it for me, and she passed away a few months ago. So, I may not be able to get rid of it.

Same here my 3g works great...but it doesn't do 720p video, and the camera sucks donkey ass. Speed hasn't been a problem for me or the screen but i welcome the upgrades. Those are my reasons for upgrading...just i have 100$ in BB giftcards that i want to use towards the upgrade. Might try to run to BB during my 90minute break.
 
GARBAGE! All the ads and previews show the white then at last second you find out it's coming later... Guess i'll just tuck tail and go black again I don't like the later this summer window. Hopefully we get more info before release day. :/
 
both apple and atts websites are rammed raw. good luck trying to pre order there right now. my gf has been trying since about 630 am and cannot complete the process without the damn thing going down.
 
I was able to get thru after an hour, sucks that white ain't available though. Now that the west coast is awake, good luck getting through heh.
 
Preordered a black 32gb from Best Buy. They take $50 down give you a gift card and a preorder receipt and say they'll call you to set up a reservation to get everything set up...

ALOT of people are going to be pissed off on release day. They are taking orders for white ones and saying they will have them.... The 2 people in front of me both ordered white 16's and the girl behind me said she was ordering a white 32. I asked the guy working if he knew about the lack of whites and he just nodded and said they were told to take deposits anyway.
 
my gf finally used the new apple store app that was just released to "reserve" a phone at an apple store. it was no money down, so shes a little cautious. i might end up doing the same thing since its no money down. they will hold the phone until the end of the business day.

Is Best Buy letting people buy them at full price without a contract, or just subsidized with a two year?

I have no idea, they just take your $50 you fill out a form and they call you to go from there. I'm a contract guy normal $299 so I didn't ask. The employees prolly wouldn't know anyway since they still pushing whites. ;)

AT&T is no longer guaranteeing release day for their pre-orders. I don't know that you can pre-order in an apple store (they may direct you to a computer to do so). You can "reserve" them for in-store at apple, but that doesn't stop you from having to wait in line (in other words, I'm not sure how this helps).
 
yeah, i saw the fine print with we "reserved" one at the apple store. it basically said the reservation doesnt guarantee grap and theyre sold first come first served. so even if you do that its probably in your best interest to wait in line instead of showing up after work

Screw it then. I'll wait a few weeks/months before getting one. I can't be bothered with the hassle.
 
WOOOOOO, sold my 16gb 3GS on Ebay yesterday. After fees/shipping i'll be out of pocket about $30 upgrading to a 32gb iPhone 4. Good times! :D

Hurry up thursday i'm ready for my new toy!
 
this looks really nasty but im locked in to Tmo for another year and by that time there should be even crazier stuff out...i hear companies are developing 1.5ghz dual core processors for handsets....shit is going to be scar in the next year.

this thing is awesome. The video is great, the flash is bright, the options are crazy. Upload videos directly to facebook & youtube. Everything is seamless and fast loading. If you read engadget's review they say the 3G/S seems old and chubby compared to it and it is the truth. My wife's didnt come yet so we were doing comparisons and it is just crazy how much better it is. The retina display is sick to look at. The detail is the best i have seen on a phone. It looks like you are touching a photo instead of a screen.

More than worth the upgrade plus selling my jailbroken/unlocked 3G on ebay makes this an absolute steal.
 
I miss the days (just a few weeks ago) when an unlocked 32GB 3GS would go for $600+ on eBay. Now they don't even hit $400.

Best Buy never called and were totally unhelpful whenever I tried to find out my preorder situation they kept saying they hadn't started calling but would do so shortly.. So I hit the nearest Apple store about 30 minutes away this morning. Got there at almost 7am as I overslept. It's in the dead center of the mall. Preorder line stretched nearly half the mall while the show up and buy line was the length of the other half the mall and then curved back around coming the other direction.... Needless to say I left and drove home Best Buy opening at normal time looks like... They had gates up when I drove by and couple people camped in parking lot.

Oh yea and Super Walmart got 3 16gb and those went to people who camped all night... I went there first this morning.

Gonna be a bad day it seems. I couldn't get a order online on day one so I just ran to BB and pre-ordered then assumed I was safe as I did it before noon and idiots in front on me kept asking for whites.. I assume what screwed me is getting a 32gb sounds like they are rare from various Apple boards... Guess i'll know more in 15 minutes when I choke a bitch at Best Buy....

hopefully they hold on to preordered phones. I never got a call, i called them and they were just saying "oh show up at 10am" so i assumed they had more then enough to cover preordered phones. im gonna go later in the day since i have an exam in 90minutes.

please update, wanna hear what happens since i preordered around noon that first day also @ a local bb.
 
Yea you are probably screwed. My store was a mess as they only called and set appointments for those who would get one. Everyone else just showed up at opening and rushed to the phone area. The guy was like nobody was called and pulled up the list and yea only had called those who would received phones. People who ordered whites earlier were changed to blacks ahead of people who ordered black originally and looked like about 12 total and only 2 32gbs.

They have no idea when more is coming, i'm supposedly #2 in line for a 32... fuck um i'm just gonna order off Apple.com like I should have did in the first place on day two rather than giving up day one.
 
Just get an Android, like the Droid X or the Galaxy S (when it drops). They are better anyway. Apple Fanbois make me laugh when they despair.
 
haha, fandroids go look at the iphone 4 screen and cry in a corner. The display itself kills anything on the market and it'll fit in your pocket. I'm a little annoyed at at&t premier since my coworkers who ordered after me received theirs yesterday. But I can't complain since the fedex guy dropped it off today. GL to the line sitters..
 
Why is it so important to have this thing RIGHT NOW!!!!??? I mean in a month or two there are going to be tons of them for sale everywhere. I'd rather wait instead of going through the hassle of dealing with launch mania.

I still dont understand why people didnt preorder. I walked into an empty ATT store on preoder day at 1000 am and preordered. I got my phone yesterday and my wife's came today. How easy is that?
