WWE Legends of Wrestlemania - Out now! Buy it or the Warrior will lecture you!

Has Benoit been on any DVD other than the ones they can't logically pull him from (e.g, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Royal Rumble sets)?

"Any dvd" means any dvd produced after June of 2007.

I don't think so. However, when the inevitable Orton DVD comes, I don't see any way around it. Of course, Orton's first title run was such a huge failure that they may choose to gloss over that regardless of Benoit's involvement.

A while ago I remember reading that the "policy" on Benoit footage would be that any DVD of a full event would leave him in. So something like a Survivor Series box set would be free of any editing. I can't personally confirm that he's in the SummerSlam set, but based on the lack of a vocal backlash I'm assuming they left him in that too.

Meanwhile any compilation or documentary-type DVD would avoid him like the plague. I have no idea what the source of this "policy" was so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm curious as to how they've been handling him on WWE 24/7. Can anybody shed some light on that? Do they even show stuff from the 2000-2007 era, or is it mostly older stuff?

Not only hasn't Benoit been featured, but didn't they even massacre-edit a match on the Austin DVD where he showed up? Some match that was Austin/HHH, I think.

As already mentioned, that's the difference with Savage... sure, they didn't edit him out of the full PPV DVDs, but the IC one was the first (almost ever, I think) where they specifically featured a Savage match by choice. That's a huge change from the fingers-in-ears 'la-la-la-la-la-can't hear you-la-la-la-la' stance that Vince has had since the 90s. It's sort of sad that the closest comparison to the Savage thing is a guy who murdered his own wife and child... hell, it was mocking, but even Warrior got a DVD. Really, though, up until the IC DVD, the only two people that apparently never existed were Savage and Benoit.

The Orton DVD is a ways off, I'd imagine. Hell, Edge only JUST got one, and he's been in the company for almost a decade. Will be interesting, though, and Benoit may actually mean we don't get a retrospective DVD for a *long* time.

Sidenote: recently got around to watching the Four Horsemen DVD. Yikes. It was right around when they had an interview where they called Benoit a 'monster', followed by a shot of him and Nancy. Uncomfortable.

EDIT- starting typing *before* Busta posted. Don't know how 24/7 handles it, but I *think* I remember hearing that Benoit was initially edited out of Nitro and whatnot. It may have changed as time has passed, though.

Interesting notes 007. I actually remember hearing about the editing in that Austin/HHH match too.
Ironically, in the Eddie Guererro "Cheating Death" DVD... they actually edit a match by cutting TO a shot of Benoit in the crowd (during the ladder match with RVD, when a fan ran in). I assume any future DVD with that match will handle the editing quite differently.

As far as Savage goes, I can personally confirm that he appears on the "Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 80s" DVD. They include a match between him and Junkyard Dog. Not sure what the extenuating circumstances were for that one, since it's certainly not a match that "had" to be on that DVD!

Also, isn't Savage on the COVER of that Saturday Night's Main Event DVD?? Or did I just imagine that one?

Racist.

yeah i thought i saw what matches were supposed to be on the dvd... and none of those current SNME were on it.... it was all the 80s and early 90s...

I certainly hope Savage finds a way into this game. He remained a favorite of mine up until his final WCW days. His diving elbow drop retained the same punch as it did during his prime. I love that move.

Thanks. Game looks a little too potentially "QTE" in its play, so I hope I'm wrong about what I saw.

The video flashbacks are a soopa cool addition.

And I don't know Dutch, but I think I understand this: "dit zijn mogelijk de list of wrestlers en mangers die in de game zitten. Macho man en the steiners en nog een hele boel goeie zitten er neit in omdat ze ruzie hebben met vince asshole mcmahon, dus alleen de kiss my ass club komt er in."

 I hope this is sarcasm. If not, let me point out that I wasn't talking about JYD. I was referring to Cena.
Yeah Cena is TOTALLY out of place.

Why did they ever stop making wrestling games that had the WCW vs. NWO engine? There hasn't been one good wrestling game since WWF NO MERCY. Oye!

G
what I really don't get is why the same publisher, with the same license, had completely separate developers make games for each console. I remember at the time hearing how each game would utilize the strengths of each console, yadah yadah etc, but were the PS1 and n64 really THAT different that one console HAD to have Smackdown and the other HAD to have No Mercy? And in the generation after that... there's really no reason why the GameCube, PS2, and Xbox each needed their own completely separate game.

Meanwhile NOW they take one Smackdown game, and port it to platforms that actually ARE quite different (PS3, PS2, DS, etc).

This has always baffled me! Wouldn't it have been more cost-effective to just have AKI make one game, and then just port it to everything?

The characters and gameplay looks like they got the Legends of Wrestling team from Acclaim to make this game. I enjoyed those games as they had great rosters and it was fun using characters from the different eras.

As for the No Mercy Aki engine, a few of the Gamecube WWE titles tried to replicate it and then you had Def Jam Vendetta which was made by Aki.

Hmm. The game looks great (the arenas, especially, an area that recent Smackdown games have been not great in), but I literally don't understand how that gameplay is working. Unless it's *awful*, I can't see myself not buying it, but this lack of info is kind of annoying.

Oh, and the addition of the Undisputed belt is a little odd, yes? I'm sincerely hoping we get the classic belts, as well.

Alright, I really really hope they don't screw up the fight system, because I can finally admit that I'm totally fucking excited about the game.

Even though i wish Aki would still make the games.. i used to like the fact that each system had their own games.. i used to have 3 different wrestling games to look forward to each year.. i wish they had spaced out their releases a little more though.. (usually within a month from each other)

I wish they would be like NBA games. Have EA, Take 2, and whoever else that wants to make a game based on them do it. I wouldnt mind an arcade version of rumble with online play, up to 8-10 guys in ring at once. But thats never going to happen with yukes, their 6 man in the ring bullshit, and crappy ring out meters make the rumble match in svr pure shit. Yukes is turning fun into simulation, and thats turned me off. Im really hoping the rumble in LOWM is good, and doesnt have those bullshit ring out meters.
Flair, Bret, L.O.D., Piper
I said 'new' legends. All of those have been in WWE Smackdown games.

I mean if they really wanted to get technical with the "Wrestlemania" theme, they could exclude a number of match types... hopefully they ditch "realism" in this case, though.

Yes, Royal Rumble is in. There is a trophy list for ps3, and one of the trophys is to win a 30 man royal rumble.

Just call it a "Battle Royale" problem solved.

Well, Legends of Wrestling had pretty solid rosters, but dog-balls-licking gameplay. This appears to not have the roster (all signs point to no Razor Ramon/Diesel, Demolition, or Macho Man Randy Savage), so it damn well better make it up in the gameplay.

The legends of wrestling games were entertaining for a few afternoons, but they were far from being solid wrestling games. I never played showdown, was it any good? Erm....atleast better than LoW 1 or 2?

It wasn't great, but Believe Showdown was better than the first LoW game. I've never played the second one though.

From what I've seen online and today at NYCC I've bumped it down on my personal list from a must-buy day 1 to a rental. It's unfortunate since I was really looking forward to it. I am NOT a modern wrestling fan at all. I grew up in the hulkamania years (I think the last time I watched wrestling was 1989 or so) and despite this I have managed to really enjoy the Smackdown vs. Raw games. I was really looking forward to this game, but what I've seen just looks like crap.

Hmm... there'll be more videos, right?

It's not that it's a bad roster, it's just unsurprising. Though, I don't think Bam Bam was on that previous list we had, so there may be more. Also, sounds stupid but... Bam Bam! Worth it for just the music.

showdown was decent with the best roster and announce team... the second one was ok.. first one pretty much sucked ass.

Having hogan's wcw theme was a plus but they removed the lyrics by the time showdown came out

Ugh... the more I see, the less optimistic I am.

Now, the question I still have is that I've seen a few times where people have talked about being able to import guys from SvR09... true? untrue? any info on it? I don't understand how that would even work, given the swtich-up on control-style.

Anyway, best case scenario would've been to give us both play-styles and let us choose. Default it to 'arcade', but leave open the option to play like SvR. That, of course, is just wishful thinking.
