X-Box Price Drop For 2004

Its just a guess based on nothing solid. Microsoft is still losing money on each XBox sold, so I don't think they would want to lose more buy dropping the price.

No they don't. Microsoft is set to lose 2-4 billion this generation. They will never make that up. Maybe if they stay in the market for 20 years or so they may break even.

Of course they can afford to do whatever they want, but at some point they will have to answer to their stock holders.
 
Just think of a price drop around the same time as Halo2, and add in the "cheaper" made xbox's (they found different ways to cut production costs. normal thing yes, but was difficult for MS at first).

I already have a box of my own, i just need that to kick sony into dropping the ps2 price
 
taking a loss on hardware to gain customers who will eventually buy more games (higher profit margin) Will be a smart move for XBox. plus building a stronger fan base for the next teir XBox2. Bill gates is alwys last out of the gates, but he has enough money to stay in the game... Did you guys hear about the software he has coming out for xbox that will link it to your computer?? Big Big News.
His downfall will be charging for Xbox Live. That sucks the big one.

It "sucks" in the sense that you have to pay for something that is free on the PS2, but it will not be his "downfall". Xbox Live is generally regarded as the best online solution on consoles. You get what you pay for. Personally, I think the only reason to have PS2 online is to play EA Games (and EA is supposedly inching closer to going on live, although nothing is certain) or if you only have dialup.

I don't think so. Sony was very unorganized and may have made a big mistake by letting MS grab a foothold in the console industry. For Sony, online gaming was an afterthought, they underestimated the potential. for MS, it was their mission. if you've been reading the wires you would have seen that Xbox Live just crossed the 750,000 subscriber threshold, not including people who received 2 months free. If the rumors are true and XBOX drops the price to $99-$129, sony has to follow. And XB2 is rumored for 2005 while PS3 is still slated for 2006. I love all consoles but I don't believe that XBOX/XBL is doomed by any means.
 
I personally love X-Box live. The ease and efficencey of connecting and playing is unmatched by ANY console thus far. My Dreamcast will still hold a place in my heart as the 2nd best online console. That broadband adpater is totally awesome :cool:
 
Charging for xbox live is in no way a downfall. I pay 50 bucks a year and get so mucH more out of my gaming. I have all three consoles. If a multiplatform game comes out I almost always buy it for the Xbox if it has that xbox live logo on it.
 
We all know that price drops are going to happen for both the Xbox and PS2, it's just a matter of when. By the time that the Playstation was at the same point in it's life-cycle that the PS2 is now it was already $99. One has to wonder why Sony has kept the PS2 price so high for so long. It could be related to the story Gamespot is running that Sony's profits are down 26% from slowing PS2 sales. It could also be that Sony is using that extra cash to fund their share of the CELL chip development for their next generation of electronics. If Microsoft forces their hand with a price cut, it will be that much harder for Sony to fund those operations, even if the big MS takes a financial hit as well. We all know that Microsoft isn't concerned about losing money and E-Z-B is dead-on by bring up the thought of "investment". Sure Bill and the boys still have to answer to shareholders and such because Microsoft is still is a business and needs to make money BUT 1) the leadership had always said that this was going to be a long term business plan, meaning that they would lose money initially (so DRJ555 is right to a certain extent as well) yet a console would get Microsoft out of the home office and into the living room which is where they see the future of software and 2) the shareholder reps can swallow a $4 billion "investment" when they see the future as it is presented by the Xbox team. There are going to be some great things coming from both Sony and Microsoft in 2005/2006. Meanwhile, enjoy being able to snag a Xbox or PS2 for $99 in the near future and be thankful that they finally adopted the graduated software pricing with this generation of hardware that PC gamers had enjoyed for so long.
 
I personally think that MS has so much more potential than any other console. The problem is they don't have to many RPG's, I love rpg's, If SquareEnix went to MS instead of Sony or Nintendo they could not be beat. Morrowind is about the only good RPG on X-box right now. The reason I bought my X-box with live is because of true fantasy online, but where is it? I believe if they don't release some good rpg's soon I may go back to PS2 as my fave.
 
I have all three systems and currently play my xbox more due to live. It is by far the best option for going online, and I really don't care about paying the $40 bucks to do it for a whole year. It's sad to say, but at the current moment, the ps2 is my least favorite gaming console.
