CAGiversary!
Just saw this over at DVDTalk.com. Credit goes to mrpeavey

Same price at either B&M or in-store, and the price goes for all seasons.

This is a great drop for those of us who missed the Fox Store 50% off sale and have been waiting for any instance of a drop on these sets for years.

I hope that other stores follow in suit of BBY's price drop on these boxsets.... you folks know my "love" for BBY is so "great" I can barely contain myself from showing it.

I believe that's the common sentiment of BB here, so don't feel left out.:)

DDD has seasons four, five, and six at $54.26. And that's with free shipping and no tax. The first 3 season are at about $70 but were down to $50 a few months ago, so they may drop again. Just add 'em to your wishlist and keep an eye on 'em.

A very good deal, but that's still a ton of money for a single season. I would pick up a few if it was the end of summer and I had a bunch of extra money from working all summer.

Can anyone confirm this as in store also? I went buy BB toady really fast before I went to work and they were all marked 96.99 and I asked the person running around and they said they weren't on sale and they wont match the website. Please post if you have gotten the 49.99 deal at a BB B&M.

Thanks

Some Best Buys are better then others are actually marking the correct prices. Get something price checked in cases like these. Alot of the times they don't know what is going on. Worst case scenario just do a instore pickup if it lets you. They might actually match the price on the website they where checking it when I was trying to pricematch my Dai-guard but it turned out to be still cheaper in the store then on the website. It went up to 36 something on the website.

Confirmed. Went today and got the last 4 seasons I needed to complete the series and all were 49.99 in store. My BB had all 9 seasons also.
Is this a permanent price drop or just a sale?

I hope it's permanent..
According to "Sweet Baby James" at DVDTalk, the shelf tags state that the sale ends 7/4. That is a Monday, which seems strange to me. 6/4 would make more sense, since that is a Saturday. I haven't checked on it myself.

Wow. You just dropped $200 on the X-Files.
Hey, I would do the same if I had the money.
For me it's not about having the money - I love The X-Files. I watched from the start (Friday nights) to the end (Agents Reyes and Doggett aka Coy and Vance). It ranks as one of my favorite shows of all time but there's NO WAY I'd spend that kind of money on some DVDs. I think it's a waste (as is most TV on DVD) - how often are you going to actually watch them?

It depends on the show. I watch Family Guy all the time. As for shows like Alias and such, while I love 'em I'd likely only watch it every few years. It's nice to watch at your liesure though and if you have the means, why not. As long as your not taking $$$ away from something you'd put to more use. Then again, there is always something else to spend money on right?

All the TV on DVD that I have I have come back to at least 2 to 3 times each. Not watching through each of them from start to finish, but certain episodes. I find it fun and a great convenience to have them at my disposal anytime I wish. But I also find that $50 for TV on DVD is still slightly too high for my tastes.

Only TV Series I own completly(Not Including Anime Series I have alot of those) is Babylon 5, It went out of Syndication and I wanted to watch it again so I bought it. Payed about 50-60 bucks per Season. Next series I plan to get is Farscape with the Starburst Editions it's only going to be about 45 a season. . I'll probably get all the Star Treks someday but Right now I don't want to drop that much money on them.

Seems like a good time to use my $50 BB credit, been wanting to get the series but not for the redicalous price of over $50. Anything over seem to be price gouching the fans.

the 24 boxsets i've bought the first day they have all come out and they are worth every penny....IMO TV on DVD is a better deal then spending $20 on a two hour DVD

This is a great deal considering these set's used to be $149.99 each!!!!!!! I already had season 1 so of course i bought 2-5 yeah!! BTW seasons 7-9 = suck.

I agree on 7-9 when they brought in Doggit and the other lady (her name escapes me now), but still I would get them all if I had the money.

My BB must have only had 2-3 copies or it was fat wallet'd. As I picked up Chapelle Show Season 2, I looked around and saw where they were supposed to be. They only had 2-3 copies of Season 1 left. All the others were gone.

Agent Reyes. I think they were only brought in at the end of Season 8 though... why was season 7 bad?

AZ Best Buys are all out of X-Files season sets, and have been for a week or two, I think... Kinda sucks, since my g/f needs some of the later ones.

Not to mention the last episode left something to be desired, even with Duchovony back.

I think the show got worse near the end when they started to delve into revealing part of the mystery behind the conspiracy and whatnot. It was better when some of the back-story was left up to our imaginations... kind of like how Matrix and Star Wars was before their sequels/prequels marred us.

You are correct sir, it was Reyes was her name.

I think you're right on that they were brought in Season 8, but Season 7 stunk because it was when the X-Files started to go downhill IMO. It was right after the movie (which I thought wasn't bad) and it seemed that the writers were having a difficult time continuing the story and making it relevant not only to the time line, but with fresh ideas. It also became more of a show that if you missed an episode, than you were lost. Seasons 1-6 seemed more to have a story arc, yet you could pick the show up at any time and understand what was happening and what was going on with the characters. They should have left the series enshrouded more in mystery IMO towards the end also. Towards the end it felt a little dragged out as well as not the same since they had Doggett and Reyes.

Aaahh, I see... I thought the movie was between 7 and 8. It did kind of go downhill from the movie onward. I think since the ratings were slipping (as almost every show does past it's prime) they were trying to have less of a story arc to attract new viewers so they wouldn't feel lost. I don't think this ever works though... if I'm not on board by season 2 chances are I'll never watch it anyway. I hope the X-Files 2 movie is good - I love the Mulder and Scully characters - I just wish the writers would time warp them to season 4 or 5 and forget about all this Scully's baby crapola and pretend like the kiss never happened either...

Yeah movie was after season 5, i want to get the movie now too, since i will be getting season 2-5 in the mail.
Scully should have Blond hair in the new X-files 2 movie, that is her normal hair color, she looks hotter as a blond anyway. Mulder is getting too damn old though...Christain Bale should replace him and bang scully a few times in the next movie.
Hopefully in the next movie they don't reference X-files season 6-9 which are not good at all. The next Files movie should be self contained with Smoking man as the main enemy with half alien henchmen as his helpers.

Any further word on how long this sale goes? July 4th, or June 4th? Anybody? Bueller?? Bueller??

Some of you who tried to find them at local stores may want to try again (as in checking "store availability" online). I just got my "Your Order Is Ready For Pickup" email for seasons 1-4, and they weren't there two days ago (my usual Tuesday Trek to drop at least a twenty-spot on a DVD). I think that they'll get one shipment a week of these. I'd like to at least get 5-7 at this price before the sale ends, and if this goes to July, that helps 'pace' my purchases immensely.

Almost--in a moment of weakness and ignorance--got the whole series "Asian Edition" on eBay for a little over $200. Whew, that was a close one. Too good to be true, obviously.

P.S. Off-topic, I really enjoy Cheapy's editorials and news. One of the few remaining gaming sites that doesn't feel 'bought' by one or more console maker.

The Add's last day is saturday May 29th, at least for my Best buy add in MI, i wonder if they will raise it back to 49.99, 79.99 or 99.99? it seems like they wouldn't want to keep the sets at under $50. Considering thier original prices of $149.99 each.

Well, since my last post, I saw in another forum that the $49.99 price point stays in effect until 7/2. Regardless, I'm starting to get the distinct impression that this 'sale' or 'price drop' lasts more than one week.

I wonder how Best Buy hooked this deal up. No other store seems to be matching it. For a second, I thought that it was going to be a universal price drop to make way for a series-spanning box set that would be much more 'affordably' (relative term there) priced. Even with this deal and tax, all nine seasons will still cost you around $500. Ouch.

I just got all 9 seasons of X-Files from a North Alabama Best Buy at $49.99 each before 8.25% taxes...yep, I'm crazy to drop that much on DVDs! No summer vacation funds now. I did a search on the Internet after getting the yellow bags home and found a site having a pre-order for a huge boxed set of all 9 seasons at LESS than what I just paid. I was unable to find an expected release date on this pre-order and there was no description, so I wasn't able to tell if there would be bonus material (extra discs or toys) in the huge boxed set. If I am allow to state, the site was boxedtvseries.com. I'm going to be keeping an eye on this site and may take the season sets back to Best Buy on the last possible refund date. Then I might pre-order the huge set from the mentioned site assuming it is in fact going to be released and not just posted so folks will loan pre-order money to the online vendor that is later refunded -- did you follow that? So please post any news on a huge 59 or more disc set with all the X-Files seasons that is reported at a more known vendor's site or on the Fox Entertainment site!!!

I question the legitimacy of boxedtvseries.com as they state The X-Files boxset is "season 1-10" when we all know that the show was on for NINE seasons.

So yeah... keep the ones you got at BBY.

That website is very sketchy. I am thinking they are selling the Asia collectors edition crap that is on ebay. Evidence:

1. "Free shipping on all orders to USA" ... why mention to USA if you are not in USA? Amazon sure doesnt.
2. "All sets consist of brand new, licensed, legal, factory made high quality DVD's" ... no mention of what region.
3. "guranteed to play in all DVD players" ... sounds region-free to me
4. they have seasons 1-7 of ER when only 1-3 have been released in U.S.

I would stay away from this site.

My BB was out for a while, but just recently got a new shipment in, so the shelves are stocked again. If you are still looking for these i woudl go back to the store and check it out

Yaeh, I think a lot of BBs have gotten shipments in because the season sets are in the ad for next week according to TX and TSD.

I'm not intersted in the complete seasons. But i think i may spring for the "conspiracy" sets. Maybe that will wet my appetite for the actual seasons, but i doubt it.

Now only if the DVDs for Star Trek TOS, TNG and DS9 would drop to this price...

I think you must have missed Season 10 when they switched to late night Cinemax and Mulder boned Scully and Reyes for an hour every week. There wasn't really any plot except when AD Skinner showed up in Episode 8 and told Mulder where to find his sister. When Mulder left to go find her, AD Skinner boned Scully and Reyes for an hour that week.
