X-Men: The Last Stand
x3newtrailer.jpg

In X-Men: The Last Stand the climax of the "X-Men" motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier, who preaches tolerance, and Magneto, who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test – triggering the war to end all wars.

Director swapping:

Bryan Singer was supposed to direct and co-write the film's script, but when he was given the offer to take over the problematic Superman Returns (2006) from Brett Ratner, he left the project, taking with him most of the production staff, including composer and editor John Ottman, cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel, writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris, and production designer Guy Dyas. (Singer has maintained in interviews that he would have loved to have gladly done this movie after completing the "Superman" project, but 20th Century Fox chose to continue without him.) Layer Cake (2004) director Matthew Vaughn then stepped into the director's chair, overseeing the script and production, only to leave 9 weeks before filming, unable to commit to the year-long production schedule which would keep him away from his family in England. In an odd twist of fate, Brett Ratner filled the vacated position. Ironically, Ratner was also a contender to direct X-Men (2000) before Singer got the job.

7-Minute X-Men Preview to Air on Fox!
Fox will air a 7-minute preview of X-Men: The Last Stand on Thursday, May 11 from 8:30-8:37pm ET/PT! The preview airs right before the series finale of "That '70s Show," which is on from 8:37-10:00pm ET/PT.

Brett Ratner On Xmen: The Last Stand:

What I didn't change was the plot. The plot of this movie, in my opinion — the concepts of ''The Cure'' and the Dark Phoenix — is brilliant. What I changed were set pieces, the location of where the third act would take place, for example. Every day we were working on making the script better and when I say ''script,'' I mean the relationships among the characters and the placement of the scenes because I'm very much into transitions. When you make a film, you're not just shooting like 50 little movies. Every scene has to connect with the next. It was a much bigger canvas because it was a much more emotional story. The story — whether you're an X-Men fan or not — is very relatable. ''The Cure'' is a very strong issue.

Jackman Talks More About Wolverine :

Fresh from the set of The Prestige, the magician movie he's making with Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan, Hugh Jackman popped by to accept the Male Star of the Year award — and to answer a few prying questions from EW about his spin-off movie, whose second screenplay draft, by David Benioff (Troy), is due momentarily. ''Wolverine substantiates a feature film,'' Jackman said. ''I mean, he's a really intriguing, mysterious, enigmatic character, à la Mad Max, Dirty Harry, Han Solo — he's that kind of screen antihero.'' So what's the movie about? ''I'd love to get into the origins of that character and find out what he's really made of. So that was always my idea.... Benioff came in with a pitch that was so brilliant, I was so excited, I actually tried to get Fox to make it [before X-Men 3]. But they said, 'No, no, no, we have a trilogy, let's finish that.''' Ah, so that means that Wolverine will survive X-Men 3 this summer, right? ''Well, you never know. Wolverine might be a prequel. Wolverine might be a prequel.'' Yeah, we heard him — nudge nudge — the first time.

This looks really good. But trailers almost always look good. Actually.... I think that the trailer guys should just make the movies, they'd be better.
I like the bridge scene from the Morrison run of New X-men. Heres to hoping Juggernaut actually turns out ok.
The shot of him bounding through the walls was pretty damn cool looking i must say... heres hoping with you!
God damn quicktime. It never seems to work on my computer.
Get Quicktime Alternative. It's a codec that allows you to play .mov, .mp4 and other quicktime formats on WMP... though it is suggested to use Media Player Classic.

Thanks.

Man, the trailer makes the movie look really kick-ass, but I seriously doubt that after all the negative hype that this will end up being good.

EDIT: Is it just me, or does Halle Berry suck ass as Storm? Isn't Storm some African princess or something? And didn't she have an accent in the animated series? WTF?
And isn't Colossus Russian....AND GAY???
Correct on both points, doubtful that it'll come into play in this film however. At first I thought it was Arcangel, but I guess it's just gonna be Angel.

And in the "war" clips, how is Rogue supposed to do anything? She hasn't taken Marvel Girl's powers or anything--- Though I suppose she could run around touching people saying, "Gotcha!"
And isn't Colossus Russian....AND GAY???
He's only gay in the Ultimate U. He's w/ Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat in the regular Marvel U.

i am pretty sure this was posted in the Xmen 3 thread

I think this trailer pretty much proves that Cyclops dies early on. He was barely in the trailer and it looks like there was a funeral scene. I dislike Cy, but he is a good counterbalance for Logan. For some reason I do not buy all of the mutants on Magneto's side vs the 7-10 Xmen, unless the Pheonix gets involved, but she could handle just about everyone. If this is the last flick and they still dont have gambit, I will go berserker rage all over Ratners face
gay??? wtf
Everyone makes a big deal outta this, but its actually very well done. Its also only in the Ultimate universe and not in the 616.
Is it just me, or does Halle Berry suck ass as Storm? Isn't Storm some African princess or something? And didn't she have an accent in the animated series? WTF?
Yeah those are both correcto. Halle berry is horrible at playing roles that are a stretch and dont revolve in a typical human enviorment. Seriously i dont know why people think she is a good actress. The list of films behind her name are lackluster. Catwomen, Gothika, Die another day, the flinstones and all the other junk she was in. Is it because she is attractive it gives her acting points?

Back on topic, Yeah shes supposed to have an accent because she was from africa... in X2 she tries to pull out an accent but i think she forgets about once and awhile. All she SEEMS to be good for is creating distractions from planes flying and making uncomftorable winds...
He's only gay in the Ultimate U. He's w/ Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat in the regular Marvel U.
Phew...somebody at least cleared that up. Was just about to post that. I still think that Grant Morrison and the Ultimute U Xmen version of Colossus is weird, though it is handled quite well I must say.
if you had a steel pp, why would you want to put it in a bum bum? it'd pleasure teh ladies a bit more i'd say.
Okay. The movie will hopefully will not suck. If it sucks, we will find Brett Ratner and kick him in the nuts, and then I steal his woman (Serena williams).
Thanks.

Halle Berry sucks ass, period. She doesn't deserve my money, or I'd seriously consider watching this movie.

I've seen ... doh ... two trailers for this and I think it looks pretty awesome. I just ... don't like Juggernaut! He isn't very big at all! When I think Juggernaut I think ... this big ass leviathan. I mean, in the trailer he's a big guy ... but that's it. He's a just a guy who's big.

i.e., he's big for a regular guy, but not big period. Do you know what I mean? I mean, couldn't they have done some CG or something to make him a giant?

They should have just left Juggernaut out of the movie altogether.

The movie will totally redeem itself if Apocalypse shows up at the end.

If Apocalypse shows up I hope Cable makes an appearance.

Because people loved how that looked so much in the hulk ;)

I was curious to see what EXACTLY ratner had done before getting xmen ( how that happend we will never know)

FILMS

Running Scared - (2006) - Producer
After the Sunset - (2004) - Director
Red Dragon - (2002) - Director
Paid in Full - (2002) - Producer
Double Take - (2001) - Producer
Rush Hour 2 - (2001) - Director
The Family Man - (2000) - Director
Rush Hour - (1998) - Director
Money Talks - (1997) - Director

WHY brain singer dropped the directing spot to do super man... HORRIBLE idea... if you worked so hard on two of them, would you want to round it out to make the trilogy yours instead of doing ANOTHER superman remake....

it's my understanding that singer started production on superman while waiting for x3 to get into production. i read somewhere that he wanted to do x3 after he wrapped on superman, but they decided to move ahead without him and hire ratner. but let's not forget it takes more than an egotistical director to make a bad movie...

the writing team...
zak penn of elektra
simon kinberg of xxx: state of the union

i'm not saying that the movie's guaranteed to suck, but they spared some expense with the script (don't worry though, plot's not important as long as it looks really cool).

Q&A archive with Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg.

According to Zak Penn:
You would be SHOCKED, as I was, to know what a meticulous student of cinema Brett Ratner is. I say this because I really had no idea until I got in the trenches with him. He watches films constantly -- great films, by great directors -- and he is obsessed by composition and mise en scene. If you know his public image it might seem bizarre to say this, but he kind of reminded me of Guillermo Del Toro with his bags of movies and knowledge of the camera, etc. I'm not surprised that fans bash him; the guy dates super hot women and drives a Ferrari and shows up in the society columns. But he is a different person when it comes to making movies. If you had told me this before I worked with him, I might have laughed at you. But there it is.

I was actually gonna audition for Juggernaut, I don't believe Sugarman is in this installment, is he?

If it were my movie, I'd cast you as an older Banshee that acted as more teacher than hero. Maybe give you the mansion during a change over after Xavier died?

Stuff that I saw that I liked:

- Cool special effects

- The returning actors from the previous movies... I thought that Halle Berry was bitching because she didn't get a feature role, or something and wasn't gonna do it (happy they kept the same actress, though)?

- A lot of action

Stuff that I saw that I didn't like:

- Kelsey Grammer as Beast. I'm sorry, but I laughed every time I saw him. That's really lame, and seems way too much of a gimmicky thing to be good. Hopefully I'll stand corrected after it comes out...

- Juggernaut should be huge, not slightly larger than everyone else. The reason the guy has always been so badass is because he's freakin' enormous!

fuck Halle Berry. You'll know when you see the movie why I say that. Let's just say her "expanded" role comes at a REALLY large cost.

Original Post updated making this a offical update thread. Post any news with sources and it will be added to the OP.

Can you elaborate without spoiling something?

I can't elaborate too much but you can start to see the first cost of Storm being more important/Halle getting an expanded role in the newest trailer. Let's just say that funeral is for someone rather important.

Wow, someone on the internet posting supposed knowledge of a film that is months from release, and in all likelyhood not even finished. I trust him!

Yeah, that's why it's in the fucking trailer. And if the movie's principle shooting itself wasn't done yet, that'd be pretty bad considering it's only like two months away from release, which is typically when they'd be putting in effects.
