Best Buy expecting additional shipment
___________________________________________________________

Those desperately seeking an Xbox 360 to bring home on time for Christmas may have one more shot at it this week, however. A leaked Retail Insider flier from Best Buy has revealed that the electronics chain is expecting one more "secret" shipment of Xbox 360 units this week. Weblog Kotaku has heard that the shipment will arrive on December 22, but that the console won't go on sale until the following day.

Unlike with the previous shipments, it would appear that Best Buy is keeping the situation under better control this time, which will hopefully lead to less frenzy among the masses.

"Store managers have been warned not to put out any signs and not to hold the inventory any longer than necessary to staff adequately for the sale," writes Kotaku. "On the day of the sale the manager on duty has to do door duty. He or she has to ask every customer as them come in 'What brings you in today?' at which point if the customer replies 'The Xbox 360' they get a ticket to the fabled land of high def gaming... Once you get the ticket an employee walks you to the 'controlled sales area' where the employee will try to get you to buy everything in the store. Best Buy corporate says there will be absolutely no rainchecks, no holds, no wait lists, no lines and absolutely no employee sales until after Jan. 1."

You are a day late and a dollar short. They had ready to sell Xbox 360's today, but you had to ask for them by name when you walked into the store.

True that stores had them out today, but some stores may still have them tomorrow if they didn't put them out today like they're instructed to.

Even if not, these things are showing up a lot more frequently now, I'd check several places tomorrow if I wanted one and didn't have it yet.

Yep, they also had them at the Melbourne store this morning...

... and they did nothing mentioned above. They were on a table in the back of the store.

Yeah, that's what the article said too.

On the day of the sale the manager on duty has to do door duty. He or she has to ask every customer as them come in 'What brings you in today?' at which point if the customer replies 'The Xbox 360' they get a ticket... Once you get the ticket an employee walks you to the 'controlled sales area'.

Since they were shipped to stores overnight, there's no advertised sales date, it really doesn't matter to the managers if it's today or tommorrow, as long as their ready to be sold, and you ask for one. Store managers have been warned not to not to hold the inventory any longer than necessary.

Though like the article and KaneRobot said, some stores may still have them tomorrow (23rd) if they didn't put them out today.

Good luck....

I got mine today, also at 8:00. they had 8, i was 6th. What a great console. This system officially makes me a geeky gamer.

you can tell these things are easier to find, the price on ebay has dropped. I just saw a premium go for $490, unfortunately it didn't reach the greedy sellers reserve.

HA on you ebay criminals

amen, nice to see they're not raking in the ill-gotten profit anymore.

It was interesting, as I've been out shopping the last few days, every store I went to (even a furniture store) had a sign that said, effectively, "We don't have any 360's, we can't order them, so don't ask." Now Best Buy wants you to ask. Poor employees having to put up with all this crap.

damn man. i kinda want to go check at my best buy at 8 am tomorrow... but then i think i probably wont even have time to really play it until sometime next week (if i do find one). then again? what do i got to lose? waking up at 7:30am aint so bad. especially when i dont have to go to work until 4:30pm.

i also keep telling myself that i should just wait till our pre order list at work is done so i can just snag one up right away. but that shit has been weird. we got like 20 - 25 in last week and 0 this week so far. we still have about 30 people on the list i believe. ahh whatever i'll just go to best buy tomorrow. it wont hurt. ha.

anyone know anything about the san diego best buys (el cajon, mission valley, chula vista) having them in yesterday or today?

I'd like to thank retail sucks for this posting. I got to my Best Buy in SW Florida at about 8:15 (12/23), went through the routine, and got my Xbox 360! They do try to pressure you into additional purchases, especially their protection plan, but at least I still got my system! Just in time for Christmas.

which best buy was that? i went to bird road last night and nothing?

K-Mart's started getting reshipments already as well... my store never received any for launch, and we got in two premiums last night (which sold within three minutes of coming off the truck).

np, I was more than happy to pass on the info, especially counting someone was able to benefit from it by getting one.

Like someone was saying in an earlier reply, shame :shame: on those people from Ebay for selling the Premium SkU for around $750, the price of 2 Core SKU's !!

Those who over paid will be kicking themselves in the ass when there's no shortages in a couple months. :wall:

I usually wait until income tax time to make new system purchases anyway, so no hurry at the moment to get one myself. Plus my nearesy Best Buy is an hour drive away.

My BB didn't get any. The guy laughed in my face when I asked.

I'm a girl; is it really that surprising that I'm dumb enough to go around asking that question?

Has anyone that has gotten one on here experienced any of the problems that the media hyped with the system regarding the crashes, etc?

Not exactly germane to the thread, but I bought one at launch (just waited for a few hours in line under a covered awning at Costco after the people at the Circuit City next door decided to be jerks... and then got mine a full 90 minutes earlier than them when the manager decided to let us in early), and no, I the only problem I've had with my 360 is occasional slowdowns in Halo 2 (multiplayer), and unfortunately frequent freezes playing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (at level loading screens, not in game). But you'll notice that neither of those is in a 360 game, just emulated original Xbox games. Which isn't to say that people aren't having problems - I've always had good luck with all kinds of hardware. But I also figure the problems seem larger than they are due to people with problems being very vocal while those of us with working systems are too busy playing to say much.

Everyone needs to relax and enjoy what they have now. It's kinda sad to see everyone spazing over a system that will be avaliable everywhere in a month and no I don't have a 360 although I want one.

Yeah, I can understand really wanting one, especially for Christmas if you have kids, and if you have a good high speed IP too, but do not have either of those.

I don't see myself personally paying more than $400 for a system plus tax, so I made up my mind along time ago to wait for the first price drop and possible hd-dvd drive upgrade.

I beleive Merrill Lynch predicted back a couple of months ago, right before launch, they expect x360's retail price to drop to around $250-300 for the premium sku, by next christmas, if ps3 & the Rev launch in 2006.

But if you have the cash, and can find one easily without having to overpay, it sure beats waiting a year for a $100 price drop.

I've picked up a few and passed them on to friends for cost and an extra 10 bones. CC TRU and Sams Club are where I have found them. I'm personally waiting on the second generation consoles and for them to be available at my base exchange. I have a 20% off coupon so I would be able to get a premium for $340 tax free. $100 of which I can defer with agift card I got for christmas.

wow you sure are lucky to be able to find the more then one xbox 360 and a friend to only hit up $10 probably doesnt even cover gas $$ jlarlee

Since I'm home for break, I've got mine (that I picked up thanks to Kotaku's post!) sitting horizontally on its box in front of my entertainment center. I've got the power supply sitting beside the TV. The power supply never feels too warm and never hot, but the rear exhaust from the Xbox itself is really warm.

The only crash I've suffered thus far was near the last part of the opening mission in PDZ, the first time I played. When that happened, I said screw it, and put NFS:MW back in. Nothing's happened since, thankfully. The scratched disc reports have got me paranoid, and I always check my discs after I take them out...

Some of these eBay listings claim that these "second" shipment systems are problem-free, and I can't imagine why these could be any different than the launch consoles.

I kind of got into the hunt. And the one good thing about my area is nothing is more than 5 miles from me Shreveport Bossier is not spread out at all. So gas wasn't an issue. And also besides the Sam's Club visit I was in the stores looking for other things. In CC i was picking up an online order of a memory card for my new camera and at TRU I was looking at games. Not a one of these required me to stand in line. The Sam's club one was the best because it helped me fill an ebay order I had after I thought I had scored one from Kmart.com and psoted it up there like a fool. Luckily my customer wanted me to continue to try to get one instead of refunding his money right off. I figure the other two tip the karma scale back my way for being greedy on the first one.
