  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I'm 99 points away from 100K.

I thought it was gonna be Evolve that gets me to 100K but I just got hit with the progress reset bug. Went from Rank 21 to 0. I'm done. Returning it to BB and I'm moving on to Lego Batman 3.

Some of you peeps are quick. I'm at 110,800 ish Gamerscore and I've had my account since 2007. I've been in the Air Force since 2010 and have easily averaged more GS per year than before I worked. When I was younger and had all the time in the world, I just played Halo 3 all day so I didn't rack up much GS. Now that I'm older, I have more interests in gaming than just online MP with friends so the GS comes naturally.

I did pick up achievement hunting for awhile, played games like Open Season and Up. Only for about a year though. Now it's just whatever comes naturally because I'm a married with a 1.5 year old and starting college this year so I can't commit the time hunting for cheevos. I never was a completionist though. I have crazy respect for completionists. That takes a lot of dedication and patience.

I'm at 44701, and I've had xbl since November 2003 and a 360 since may 2006.

And I do think achievements have had a massively negative effect on gaming.

Thanks dude, I will try this tonight and let you know if it works. So, I need to power down the damn thing, disconnect the external disc, power it back on and reset to factory defaults...right?!

I was going to reset it anyways, just to see. But since you said it worked for you, gives me lot more confidence to try it out.
You can do that way to be just extra safe before formatting the internal drive or resetting it to factory default.

Back to topic..I'm at 100k and I had Xbox 360 when Dead Rising came out in august 2006. If I did every achievements it'd be in 300k. If I did my backlog that I didn't touch, it'd probably reach 600k. LOL

To be honest, achievements is an awesome feature, kind of prolongs your gaming time. Positive effect to gaming for me at least.

I never did achievement hunting; I also never finish my games. So, my score is waaaaaaay low. For a long time, I didnt realize that you can search/read about the achievement and get it by doing specific set of things (achievement hunting?) so I'd just keep playing and when I reach a save point I stop.

I only go from one save point to the next one - on a given day. That is also so because I only get about 1/2hr of play time. I also suck at games but I dont like you guys to know that, so focus on the other excuses please.

Bit of a rant, I'm getting sick of The Master Chief Collection. Me and my friend are playing campaign on Halo 2, when their game desyncs: it's as if suddenly they're on two different servers, as they are in different places with different enemies and stuff, despite being in the same game. Them, me and another guy then try going to matchmaking. The game freezes for 2 players during the inviting. We try around with eveyone being host, but to no avail, matchmaking never works. So we go for a private match. One guy's game freezes, I'm glitching through walls and half of my hits are not registering, while the remaining 2 players are also going weird. I bought the game only around Christmas, but the game's been out much longer. It is unacceptable that still the most simple things fail to work. They took working games, made their netcode horrible, inserted a broken matchmaking, made a hub that crashes and glitches all the time, and filled the game with issues that were not in the original versions. And several months after release it's still like this. Unity was a mess but at least on a core level it worked, this thing doesn't most of the times. I'm really, really tired of it at this point, played like 20-30 hours of it only but all of it was so plagued with issues that it's disgusting really, and to think that I used to play Halo 1-3 so much back in the day, but now all of these games are filled with issues they never had. Really bummed as Diablo 3 was on sale for X1 back then too for the same price, should have bought that. I never once sold my games because I'm a collectionist, but honestly? I'm tempted here.

I'm at 44701, and I've had xbl since November 2003 and a 360 since may 2006.

And I do think achievements have had a massively negative effect on gaming.
I have 86k and had a 360 since September 2007 and I'd probably have more if I wasn't always playing Halo lol.

How do you think achievements have had a massively negative effect on gaming? You mean on the individuals who play them or the industry itself? I'll say its negative in the sense that I grind to finish some games (like Forza) when I otherwise probably wouldn't. Also, its kept me from playing certain games because of the achievements but those were few and far between.

Since we talking about cheevos, I have 261,062 and I got my 360 console in Dec 2006 and XB1 in Nov 2013. Not a completionist though, I have 42% completion percentage. I've played over 800+ games on my account. My gamerscore is more due to me just playing a lot of games though I have played games just for dat GS.

Achievements being added along with trophies getting added on PSN to counter it is a great thing. I would have never done a second or more playthroughs on certain games if they never added those. I would have gave up on a lot of games if they never added that. It gives some games more replay value. If I really liked the game, I would try to to get as much as I can or even go for the full 1000 on it. GS doesn't determine if I should I get a game, if I want it, I'll get it regardless of what cheevos it has.

PS: I don't regret anything that was put on my card. *Hannah Montana, I'm looking at you*  :booty:

I've never passed on a game I wanted to play because of achievements. Good and/or easy achievements can be a selling point though. And god knows I'm going to play multiplatform games on 360/Bone every time no matter what. :)

I'm curious as well. I mean, for the most part, it's a completely individual and solitary thing. No one else's GS has any effect on me or my gaming habits. And if a person spends $60 or whatever on a game, maybe that's how they feel they're getting their money's worth.

The only thing I can think of as to why achievements could be considered negative, is how oftentimes, many good games (such as 360 indies) are overlooked or avoided simply because they don't have achievements.

So to the dude that made the comment about loathing achievements and that culture: I'm not arguing with you or trying to start a thing here, I'm genuinely curious.

for some reasons this conversation made me go look at what games I completed with all achievements done.

One of those games was my favorite to 1000/1000: Split Second. That was insane but FUN!!!

Just to chime in (don't get time during work/dinner hours);
Got my 360 on New Years day of 2007, I have 149,789 GS (211 to 150!)
My completion percentage is horrible, right around 40.

I'd say achievements are a good thing, but if used correctly. Some give no replay value or thought to the gameplay, where as others are enjoyable to both hunt and obtain. There's nothing like that 'pop' after a hard fought battle or high score. On the flip side, getting all achievements before a game is finished is dumb, IMO. So are achievements that add no value to the game itself. Example: Guitar hero III's achievement to play the game with a controller. I understand the idea that maybe SOME people don't have a toy guitar, but the game is designed to be played as such, and the achievements should reflect that.
Anyways, enough ranting...where are more games to add to my backlog?!

I traded in that turd months ago. Never looked back.

The reason I say they have had a negative impact is because back on the OG Xbox devs made games that you kept playing because they were fun.  Not games you kept playing to unlock XYZ achievement or XYZ skin/weapon/whatever.

I put probably 500-1000 hours into Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow not because of unlocks but because they were fun and I had a blast playing them.  Same with Halo 2.

That doesn't really sound like it's specific to being a problem with devs adding achievements. To each their own though.

*Edit

The Escapists seems to be available to play now.

More of a side effect of achievements. Having achievements as a hook to keep you playing gives them an out to make a less fun game.

I think achievements are there for bragging rights, but some people like to get their score up by playing crappy games. Some players get addicted to them, and have to decide if they'd rather spend a game they really enjoy or go achievement hunting in some easier game to get some more score.

Achievements are a great gimmick and does add replay value to certain titles but yea I'm not gonna buy and make myself play threw a crappy game I don't enjoy just for the achievements. Sometimes I like playing crappy games to see just how crappy they are like Duke Nukem, Aliens colonial marines (which I actually enjoyed those games) but I don't do it for the achievements.

Everyone has different motivations when it comes to gaming but I'd rather have 1,000 GS score from achievements that are hard to get (Gears of war Seriously/L4d Nothing Special as examples) compared to 100,000 of easy achievements anyone can get.

That is true. I'll admit that I'm guilty for playing Avatar game when it came out that time. I just had to check out to see if its true about getting 1000/1000 in just few minutes by pressing a button repeatedly. That's it, and that was just ridiculous.

Achievements for doing x out of x or just grinding...That's boring.

I like creative ones that requires some effort other than normal achievements.

hehe you hit the spot with the addiction part. Yeah folks say "Im completionist" heh ..yeah right, that urge and desire to achieve that goal is an addiction in a way. It's easy to get addicted to achievements if you'll throw some competition in, and guys like Stalllion83 or even your fellow friends who game.

You wanna have a higher score! You don't wanna be left behind!

I was all set to get this until I read a couple of reviews. Even though the reviews were good, their descriptions of the game just made it seem like it wasn't for me. Is anyone buying it now that would recommend it? I know eastx wasn't thrilled with it.

My problem is the fact that there are no checkpoints or autosaves. You can only save after a full in-game day cycle, apparently.

And darby, I get what you're saying. Mega Man X or Maniac Mansion (two of my favorite games) could be released on Xbox but plenty of people wouldn't play them if they didn't have achievements. That aspect of it is a little sad, but in my opinion, for the most part I think achievements are pretty awesome. Especially when they're done cleverly.

So much for the patch that released today for Dying Light fixing achievements. I still have the same 3 bugged achievements for all the quests, all the safe houses and all the quarantine zones. /sadface

I've seen several people on my friends list pop The Whole Story today. I'm not gonna play this game until its fixed for sure. Yes, I'm a part-time achievement whore and if I feel like I can get 100% completion on a game, I'm gonna go for it. *drops mic*

Started playing Far Cry 4 and so far I like it. I liked FC3 so it is no surprise.  It is a lot of the same but they have added features I am really digging.  #1 is the option to turn off looting animations. Thank you!!  I hate seeing the same animation over and over.  #2 is the auto drive for the vehicles.  I especially like being able to set a waypoint and it will drive you there as long as it is on a road.  I am just getting started but I am sure there are other changes that improve the game.

I also was really digging the voice acting for the main villain. I thought it was excellent.  Turns out it is Troy Baker so I am not surprised one bit. Him and Nolan North in Uncharted 4 is just awesome.

I can't believe I didn't know they had the feature for no loot animations. I loved the game so much, but seeing that so many times over and over got insanely annoying.

For the achievement talk, I hit 255,000 a couple days ago and have an Xbox since Christmas 2008. Part of that is my game collection (634 games I have at least one achievement in) and part of that is playing easy games.

As for the achievements themselves, it's a blessing and a curse. On one hand, playing some games just for achievements when all you want to do is chuck the disc is out the window and never see it again (NeverDead). On the other, it'll push you to gain those high scores you may never have tried for to begin with or give you memories that last a life time (doing invasion mode in Binary Domain).

I've played my fair share of crappy games from the My Horse and Me to the CSI games, and while some are terrible, sometimes you need a mindless game every now and then. But for every one of those, I'll have 1000'd a Halo Reach or Binary Domain, so it evens out somewhere.

Achievement is like getting paid at the end of playing a sport you love. Sometimes you have fun and don't care how much you got paid. Sometimes you are pissed enough to only play coz you get paid. :)

On an unrelated and side note, my xbox seems to read the discs just fine after i did a hard reset and set it back to factory defaults.

Dude you saved my bacon twice now, I owe you a beer or two man. Thank you. :)

During my year of hunting, I did the CSI games as well. Those were soooooo boring but at the time I just wanted the Gamerscore. That was a horrible experience though.

Where can you see your completion percentage? Mine should be somewhat decent (40-50%) because even before I started going all in for them, I had a system. 400 GS from a rental/borrowed game and 700 GS for a game I owned. I stopped since I hit 100k and had my son though, so I could've easily messed it up. My Gamercard is a nasty mess up at the top with the most recent games.

Do I need to register to see it or can I search that site somewhere?

I just put 'M4V3R1CKfan11 gamercard' into Bing and found a site (mygamercard.org) with my total GS but no details on my games history. It does show '105 Profile Views' though...kinda creepy haha. When I go to recent searches, my GT is on the list 4 times. Even more creepy.

Kdiddy, you probably have to register, I can't remember how it was when i joined TA but yeah, most likely.

One funny thing you can do once inside is checking your stats until, lets say, your boy was born, and compare them with your father period. Just for the laughs :p

Since we're talking achievements: I always had an interest in them, but I never really bothered too much. If there were games I owned with ridiculously easy achievements, I'd gladly do 'em (that Doritos game for example), but other than that I'd only bother if I really enjoyed the game. I've put almost 200 hours in the first Borderlands so no surprise I've got almost 1750 in that. Despite all I only had like 13 games with 100% achievement completion by the end of 2013 (had around 60k gamerscore too). Last year, since I was planning on buying a One around the end of the year 2014, I decided to work on my backlog, and what better way to do that than 100%-ing some games? So I got on it and I currently have around 50 games with 100% completion, even a couple ones on the One which I bought a few months ago. I'm getting closer to 90k and I still have a lot of easy completions (among others, 3 Telltale games, 2 on the One), so while I have a bit less time this year than I had last year, I still largely expect to break the 100k barrier, especially considering arcade games give 1000G nowadays.

Personally I like achievements. I never skipped a game I wanted to play just because of them, but I did buy games that I was on the fence about if the achievements were really easy. It's a nice extra. I played games more than I would have for extra challenge (for example I wouldn't have replayed some games on harder difficulties if not for the cheezmints), but I never forced myself through incredibly dull or annoying processes just for some achievements. If a game sucks, it sucks, I can handle an hour but not gonna get through 20 hours of crap for 1000G surely.

I just put thursti81 into bing out of curiosity after reading your post. There was some CAG related stuff, a few things from the dark souls wiki, then at the very bottom is "WebMD symptom checker". What the hell?

On another note, I think I'm just gonna buy Sherlock Holmes on X1. I waited a few years for one of those games to get a sale on 360 and it never happened so I never played any of them. Ugh, I hate paying full price for games.

Hmmm... I guess my 420,288 gamerscore is okay. Ranked number 1 in NM. Once I hit 200k, i quit playing easy games and just stayed playing what I enjoyed.

Without achievements, I believe a lot of the games I played would have just been put away or sold right away. I never would have thoroughly gone through them.

On the Xbox One, according to Trueachievements, I am in the top 50 for xb1 gamerscore.

I have had live for 6 years and didnt start gamerscore building until the middle of my second year, when i had free game rentals like whoa from Hastings.

Yes you need to register for them to scan your gamertag (plus, it's free, so why not?). The site is way worth it though, even if you aren't a huge achievement Hunter. It shows you all sorts of stats about your profile, so if you're a stats nerd, it's great for that too! :)

There is only one game I have gotten all the achievement in and that is Assassin's Creed 2. I did it because the achievements in that game were fairly easy to get and I've always wanted to do it in one game.  And when it happened, there were no fireworks, no confetti, no women holding beer, nothing.  So yea, I suppose i'm happy I was able to do it with one game but will I put in effort to do it again?  Nope.  I don't waste my time to get achievements that require multiple play throughs or playing on harder settings.  I get the ones I can playing in normal mode and then I move on. I have almost 28,000 GS.  It would be more but early in 360 career, i transferred my gamer tag to my friends xbox a lot so we could play co op.  Long story short, some of  my GS got lost in multiple transfers since I wasn't always connected to LIVE.  But At the most, I probably lost 2,000 or so. so it's not a great loss.  On average, I probably get less than 50% of the achievements per game. Especially if most of them require you to play MP to get some.

State of Decay Year One edition for the Xbox One will be $29.99 and people who own the 360 version will receive a 33% discount along with a new playable character. I'm so getting this since I never owned the DLCs which are all included. There's no co-op but it's the definitive version and their next game will have multiplayer. Can't wait!

True. Same here. I get bored/frustrated with some games rather quickly but if a 50G achievement is being dangled at the end of that stick, goddamit I'm gonna chase it.

On PS3, the Saint's Row 2 DLC got a permanent price drop so maybe that's a permanent price drop for the core game on live.

Also, the season pass for Saint's Row 3 dropped to $5.  Does that include all content?

Another old gamer with kids here.  I got my 360 in 2006 to play Gears of War.  My GS is almost 60k now.  Would be a lot higher, but I almost exclusively played Gears mp until CoD4 came out, then CoD4 mp until Gears 2 came out.  Just got a handful of cheves during that time for the campaigns and gears mp achievements.

About all those DLCs fro Evolve....... 99% of them are cosmetic character skins that don't look good. I think all the hoopla about the insane DLC strategy they went with is mostly unwarranted due to uneducated opinions (like most things in the world today).

I honestly got worried that I would need to spend money on DLC right away to unlock new characters, but the game comes with 15 characters and 12 maps. The only character pack DLC is for a future release of 4 more characters. I actually like this strategy more than releasing DLC map packs because this way everyone can still play with each other on any map instead of requiring the DLC to play with others.

I don't even know why people would want to buy the skins for the hunters because you play in first person anyways. The monster, sure, but most of the time you are figuring out tactics and ways to survive that standing there doing multiple 360 degree pannings of your new skin would result in your death.

The best part of this game for me so far is the fact that people HAVE to communicate to win (as hunters). Feels great to work as a team and reach that joyful goal at the end of a match.

My only problem with Evolve is that I need friends who play it. Running with randoms has been pretty frustrating and caused me to just play private games with bots.

I got lucky with my main group of 4, 2 of which were randoms that I met in my first match too. We just ended up working so well together.

PM me your GT and I'll add you.
