Because of going down to one console, that the 360 is still much more viable than the OG was, that it's adding all those extra XB1 dash features like streaming, you can still play multiplayer cross platform.

It is just very cool of them to do that. I still have a major slew of X360 games in my backlog, so it is nice to know I will be able to play them on my XB1. There are a few major questions though... Will saves carry over? Will 360 cheevos pop on XB1? Most importantly, will *every* game be added to the compatibility list over time? <--- probz not.

I still have a copy of Voodoo Vince as the only Xbox game left from when I got rid of it for an Xbox 360, which never became available for Xbox 360 BC. So they obviously wanted to keep me down.

I play PS1 and PS2 Classics on PS3/PSP/Vita/PSTV on occasion. Some of them hold up really well. Great games are always welcome.

I guess the DLC exclusivity is over, which is great for them. They don't have to split up their marketing efforts for each map pack because by the time it comes out on PC/PS, it's lost most of its momentum as a topic of interest.

 
Backwards compatibility is the greatest thing to happen for CAG hoarders. Finally all those 360 games will maybe finally possibly but eventually be played!

 
I like that Xbox One features will be available when playing 360 games for instance suspend resume, or pausing to watch TV etc.  Plus it means I can finally move my 360 out of the living room..

I think the majority of CAGs like video games in general, and don't limit themselves to current games only. Just because games age doesn't mean they become bad at certain point.

Or lets say you want to play the 3 main Gears games before playing Gears 4. One game is being remade, not all 3. Or Mass Effect 4? Or Assassin's Creed, or... Now you don't have to pay out the ass for a half-assed, full price port collection.



Also, watching this IGN stream still. LOL at this guy trashing the Gears remaster but praising Dishonored remaster. Gears is supposed to have a bunch of improvements and additions on a 9 year old games, while Dishonored literally already has a GOTY edition with all the content in the new one, and is only 2 years old. It'll probably be $60 for improved framerate and "improved" textures.

The original Xbox and XB1 are both x86 based, so the XB1 shouldn't have too many (non-licensing) issues emulating any original Xbox games. Should even be able to play using the original game discs.

The 360 is PowerPC based. PowerPC can emulate x86 pretty well, which is why there was some level of backwards compatibility on the 360. Some tweaks were needed here and there to get some games working, which is why the list of compatible games was an updating one.

Unless there's been a recent breakthrough, emulating PowerPC on x86 is another matter, and the XB1 is not enough of a step up from the 360 to do it efficiently. It's telling that you can't just play 360 discs in the XB1, you need to download "something". Depending on the size of what's downloaded, it may be just the executable game code recompiled for the XB1 and using art assets off the game disc, or it could be a complete download of the game. Some smaller games (like a number of this first batch) can probably be emulated in software without too much of a performance hit, but games that utilize more of the 360's computing resources will need new x86 executable code to run.

Your average consumer electronics does not last that long, maybe five or six years. A complex piece of hardware like an Xbox or PlayStation has so many parts, any number of which can go wrong, and then your system stops working or needs repair. You wouldn't take your Ferrari to pick up a gallon of milk.

I feel like this is something Microsoft is doing to win hearts and minds, but by the time it rolls out, there will be plenty of new games to be excited about. When it does come out, people will be like, "Why was I excited for this? I barely have time to play Fallout 4." This is just something they're doing to buy time since there aren't a lot of must-buy games for current gen systems, like how many publishers released HD remakes instead of making new games. The cost to port or emulate old games is so low that historically companies were reluctant to do them because the opportunity cost is higher.

In the past they made the first episode free while they had the rest or season pass on sale. So I fully expect a sale this week on the rest of episodes. If they offer the season pass for a reasonable price I'll grab it. I've enjoyed the first episode.

Presumably because they haven't taken it to them yet or just did recently (all those games on the list are MS games or MS controlled) and they're just doing a preview roll out with the full launch in the "fall".

Well the full release likely won't even be close to that based on the way they're phrasing things. Basically look back at how they rolled it out on 360 and I would expect it to happen almost the same way with how they'll stagger it.

$150 for a controller when the console is $350?!  It should at least include a year of Live, or a game download, or a headset.

Wow the BC news for xb1 just made my console relevant again. Sadly I am not in preview program. How does one gain access to that? Otherwise I can wait for 3Q release of the program.
