Harm's Way is a solid little game. I haven't played Crash Course 2 since the servers went offline. I didn't know you couldn't play offline. Awful design choice.

Halo Reach doesn't make up for the lackluster list of games. If this is really how monthly updates are gonna be for BC, fuck MS man for hyping us up with such an awesome feature just to make us wait months/years to get our fav games on BC lol. Should've just held off on the announcement and gave us a huge list of games to play when they were ready.

I had hoped for more but there are some titles on there I'm happy with - Deus Ex, Braid and Spelunky in particular.

This time last year I wouldn't have even expected BC to ever even happen so I can't feel upset about any games added.

LOL. They stick Black Ops and Bioshock titles right next to Reach and put "COMING SOON" in giant letters next to it, then don't deliver. That's not feeling "entitled." That's a totally legitimized disappointment.

The original developers / publishers have to give approval for the games to become BC. From what MS has said, the devs / publishers don't have to do anything beyond that. MS handles the BC porting.

Maybe so, but looking back... outside of a couple serious issues and a few key titles, that list is damn impressive for emulation.

Notables:

Halo 2 - Ghosting glitch never resolved

KOTOR - Massive slowdown and audio cutouts requiring hard reset to fix

KOTOR 2 - Seemingly random game freeze, potentially impossible to beat the game
JSRF - Serious slowdown in the night level
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath - NOT PLAYABLE AT ALL (wtf)

I'm sure theres plenty more, but those are my experiences.

Serious question: Can someone explain what I am missing with backwards compatibility? I have a 360 and one so I've just been playing 360 games on 360. Is there some benefit to playing them on one? Or is it just a one less machine taking up space thing?

I don't know about you, but my 360 takes like 20 minutes to boot up and get a game started. My X1, on the hand, gets going in about 20 seconds. Id rather wait 20 seconds to play braid than 20 minutes. Plus, having all your favorite games on one console is just awesome.
 
Just started playing Rise Of The Tomb Raider....2 hours into it and I'm hooked already. Depending on how the story unfolds this will be a strong game of the year choice.

I'm talking about the hype, and puttering out fairly rapidly. This has that feel about it.

 
For those of you disappointed in the BC list, take note that 90% of the games on this new update are games published by Microsoft Studios. This may speak volumes about how much 3rd parties are currently willing to participate in the program.

True. And that sucks. I mean if MS is doing the work to make them compatible, what does it hurt (unless there is a "remaster" of course)?

I could see any game with MP being an issue, including online games like Burnout Paradise, if the companies don't want to keep servers up and running.

But it also could lead to additional sales for old games so doesn't make much sense.
 
I can most of you never worked in software. This is how it goes in my company:

1) Project Manager asks me to scope the work and I come back and tell her, 2 months.
2) Dev manager butts in, says we need it faster - 1 month.
3) Product says people are dying out there - 2 weeks.
4) Marketing creates material saying its out this friday.
5) Sales tells clients that they can subscribe right now for a low fee.
6) CS creates tickets that the software is npt working.
7) Me, I am doing the design document. Guess what, it does take 2 months to release.

I just keep telling the stakeholders "its coming soon"...meanwhile, there is this button I added, check it out.

was one of my top 3 games of the year, its stunning. I'm kinda bummed I traded back in already, wouldn't mind checking out the DLC but the first one isn't out until late Jan :(

i figure they'll release a GOTY version later with all DLCs, maybe the ps4/pc versions will be GOTY

Yup. Mike Ybarra hinted about the problems with third-party publishers agreeing to the program in this interview here.

Remember this? When he threw out the number of "20 games" a month, and we told ourselves that we were taking the quote out of context, etc? This is what he was referring to - publishers not getting on board.

Hopefully that changes after the holidays. Short of that possible rationale - that publishers don't want to be authorizing release of their older games for Xbox One because they want people to buy their new games for Christmas - I can't see how this slow drizzle of BC games improves.

For real. I I used to play in the morning before the kids got up. I'd wake up, turn on my 360, turn on the coffee maker and get a cup brewing, go outside and have a smoke, pour my coffee and take a few sips. Sit down just as the 360 is done booting up. Cochese is probably right. My 360 is messed up.
 
Picked up Reach with a $5 Kongregate coupon and a 20% off used coup back in the Summer and got it for $.40 hoping it'd be on BC someday. Looks like it paid off.

Also picked up South Park: Stick of Truth recently since it was on BC and loving it a lot. Brilliant move to add it to the BC catalogue; it's probably driving hype for the Fractured But Whole game coming next year. SoT does have some issues on X1, though. Mostly just audio playing at the wrong times during cutscenes.
