And the 15000 points seems to be referring to only digital versions of games that will be released around August 31. I'm not sure why MS can't just make it simple and plain with their bonuses. Just tell me what digital games get me $15 back in Xbox live credit and I'll buy them up if it's something I want to play. I will love to buy the South Park game and maybe FF15 as well if they give me $15 back in Xbox live credit.

It used to only be physical game pre-orders, but now they've added digital to the mix:

The Digital part of the program seems to be pretty tough because it requires three games at $59.99 before 8/31.

EDIT - Also, the promo for physical games has been renewed every time it expires, so it could be safe to assume the same for the digital games. For those two, I would wait to pre-order them until after this promo expires.

My problem with the Digital incentive is Microsoft expects us to do the legwork in figuring out which titles qualify and which do not.

How do I know which games are "newly available"?
The date a game became available for sale isn't always the same date it releases. Let's say you want to buy Game X, and it releases on May 15, but arrives for pre-order in the Xbox Store on April 30. You'd just have to order the game by May 29 to qualify for the punchcard. It's as simple as that!

While on the topic of controllers, I'm looking @ the Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 controllers.  Both don't look very good to me (may look better in person.  Wood grain on the Battlefield?)... but both include on board chat and game volume controls, premium analog sticks (whatever that means), and a dual "programmable wheels" that are fully customizeable.  They're "only" $60 and come with a detachable cord... looks like they may come with a built in recharging pack.  Not bad at all as far as features go

Gamestop IT has them listed as wired, are you sure you can remove the wire? The pics also show that you can't use X1 chat headset, you need a 3.5mm one.

The description also says there are 6 configurable buttons or something like that on the back.

Yeah the description for the controllers says the wire is detachable, and the headset jack on the controller is the same as all of the X1 controllers with the built in 3.5 (all of the controllers made after the launch controllers I believe). The back of the controller has two wheels that I assume can be programmed to take over button functions

It says those wheels can be programmed with 6 functions so you don't have to take your fingers off of the analog sticks. Now that would be awesome if you could customize the design

Doesn't look like you can open it to replace the battery, so at some point it won't charge anymore and you'd have to keep it plugged in. Maybe that's why they are calling it a wired controller

Think I've already determined that the Warriors games are not for me. Had played one long, long ago on the original Xbox. And now with Warriors Orochi 3, I just can't get into it. Props to MS though for bringing a retail release with generally positive reviews even if it targets a more specific segment of the gaming population.

Either that, or it is detachable in the sense that it can be removed for transport/storage/display, but otherwise does not function as a controller unless plugged in.

Or it is intended to serve as a quick-release in the event someone trips over the cord, and they are just wording it oddly.

That is the most likely option. I haven't heard of MS changing their policy on no 3rd party wireless controllers.

 
Not sure if it's everywhere or not but at the Marlborough MA best buy yesterday I saw the Elite controller marked down to $135. It's expensive, but you'd be better off grabbing one of those

Completely off topic but does anyone want to talk me into or out of buying a Windows phone?  I use Straight Talk and I need an upgrade badly (I do not even use a smart phone).  I was thinking of getting a Lumia 550 ($149) or 650 ($199) since I would like to use the MS ecosystem for achievements and games but they seem like under-performing phones.  I just got an offer from Straight Talk for an iPhone 5s ($149) and while I am not the biggest Apple fan this seems like a good deal. Thoughts?

I love my 950 xl. I'd check craigslist. You should be able to find a good deal on a 950 or 950 xl on there. (I got mine for $350)
 
I don't know why... But I'm contemplating grabbing Kerbal Space Program. It doesn't even look like its fun, but I'm still considering it. Anyone here have any opinions?

I might look into that. It is a nice phone for certain. I hate spending that much on a phone though but it may be worth the extra $ for all those features.

Edit: Looks like the 950XL won't work on Straight Talk.

I just got an offer from Straight Talk for an iPhone 5s ($149) and while I am not the biggest Apple fan this seems like a good deal. Thoughts?

I am a Microsoft fan boy, I am on my 4th Windows Phone (HTC Radar 4G, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 1520 and Microsoft Lumia 640 XL). If I look at WIndows Phone objectively I would say, don't do it as your main phone. You can pick up a cheap Windows Phone, just for gaming on Wi-Fi only and keep whatever phone platform you are comfortable with as your main phone. Windows Phone is dying a slow and painful death. The only reason to have a Windows Phone is for the achievements and games with achievements are too far in between now. A ton of games have been de-listed. I think there are only two developers left still putting out games with achievements and they all are free games with micro transactions, and the games have glitchy achievements and developers offer little support for the games. There are lots of apps that are just not available on the Windows Phone Store and developers keep pulling apps or support for their apps.

Having said that, I will go down with the Windows Phone ship because achievements. My three previous phones all had hardware issues, the 920 and 1520 were the top of the line phone when they were released. My wife has a Nokia Lumia 1020 and that one is still ticking and it takes AMAZING pictures. For my current phone I went with the cheapest and biggest phone I could find. If this one craps out on me I will take my own advice and just use the platform for handheld gaming and not as my primary phone.

I vote for the Apple 5s. Had it and loved it. Easy to change the battery if/when you need to. Plenty of affordable quality cases and accessories for it. Excellent App Store. Blah blah blah.

Windows phones are nice...

This has happened way too many times in Gears UE. When I'm getting smacked, I take it like a man. Too many guys in that game just can't handle an asswhipping and just love to blame their "shitty teammates" even though they're the ones getting their shit pushed in.

I am a DROID user of which their best phones are exclusive to Verizon so I suppose my input is useless to you : P

That being said I have the TURBO 2 and it is supposed to be near indestructible and sure as sh!t I got in a really bad accident, car got totalled; entire back end of my car was obliterated and i got banged up pretty bad. My phone was launched from the car in the accident and was in the middle of the street still 100% fine. Had a few scuffs on the exterior but nothing note worthy and the screen didn't have a mark on it. Not the best way to, but I found out that their marketing team didn't lie about the durability! : P

You really need to write both Motorola and Verizon about what happened to you and your phone, they might give you something for proving it's as durable as they say.

 
i went from a 535 to an LG G4 and am enjoying the app choices. that said, the os is MUCH worse. it never feels cohesive, you cant do simple things (like block a number or browse folders) without a separate app, the design is uglier.

it has Pokemon go tho

It is a good phone for the most part, but until you are on the go and it becomes super hot and apps then crash/lag (including the camera). Not to say that doesn't happen with most phones. After seeing the Samsung galaxy s7 in action the last week, I wouldn't mind having that phone. Only if it is indestructible like the turbo 2.
 
I've known two people who stuck with Windows Phone for quite a while. They liked them at first but eventually got tired of the closed ecosystem costing them access to tons of stuff. One guy eventually upgraded to iPhone, they other recently got a decent Android to play Pokémon Go.

Personally I don't think it's worth it for achievements since I HATE normal mobile games. It's mostly trash available anyways, even by mobile standards.

I've used Windows Phones since 2009. (Samsung Jack -> HTC Pure -> Samsung Focus -> Lumia 920 -> Lumia 1520 -> Lumia 950 XL)

There's only a few apps missing that are major, and none of them really bother me. I don't feel like killing my data with Pokémon Go, and I have an Android if I want to screw with snapchat. (got it to use as a remote for my camera)

IMO the OS is much better than either Android or iOS, having used both. Just much smoother and intuitive.

It actually doesn't use that much. I have T-Mobile so now it doesn't count anyways, but I had only used like 2000 megabytes in about two weeks playing it whenever the servers were working. I don't know about your area but it's fun playing it here because it's actually getting people to get together downtown and in our parks when there would usually be nobody there.

 
Nah, gonna be meat loaf again. Oldie that's been made over and over again. Kinda getting sick of it. I want something random/different for once.

WP user since 2010. Still going strong with my 1020 that takes great pics. I say it's worth it for the OS, plus its great being able to transfer Word/Excel docs to my laptop. Seamless. Just be aware there aren't many new achievement related games coming anymore(as covered already) and a decent amount of apps are missing. Thankful fitbit still works. Gotta get my steps in daily

Just curious how that works vs One Drive does on Android (and I assume iOS). I can open up Excel or Word files on my phone that are in my One Drive. I can edit them and later when at my desktop or laptop open up the same files from One Drive.

 
I'd rather talk about dinner than windows phones. Tonight is homemade burgers, maple pecan glazed green beans, and either potatoes of some sort or baked beans (leaning towards beans cause they are easier)
