This always happens to the leading console. The company behind it gets lazy and arrogant and give the other guys an opportunity to catch up a bit. Let's just hope MS manages to take advantage. Not that this REALLY has anything to do with it since this has all been in motion for months, but found it funny that Sony started stumbling a bit right after Adam Boyes leaves.

Dreamcast was also my first "day 1 with my own money" console. Hard to believe a new console that was easily the most powerful on the market when it came out was only 200 bucks at launch. Walked into Best Buy and just grabbed one off the shelf, I think it was the last one. Didn't have to line up or anything. Also bought Soul Calibur and whatever Blitz game it launched with.

Still probably my favorite console, or at least tied with 360. A ton of firsts on Dreamcast for me besides the fact that it was a day 1 purchase - first imported game (Fire Pro Wrestling D), first piracy, first time I'd just go out and buy games on a whim (bought Dead or Alive 2 while seeing it in motion for the first time on a demo kiosk in-store) rather than having to wait for a birthday/Xmas/convince my parents to buy it for me, first time trying to configure a network (I actually had the broadband adapter for it). Also the first time I was super pissed about a console failing far too soon.

I would hope no mod support on for Skyrim PS4 will tank it's sales. It's already hard to justify a $60 release with the minor upgrades they did, no mods would definitely kill the little interest I have.

Just seems like another example of the leader in sales not giving a shit about improving, just like MS was during the Kinect through Xbone launch era.

 
Damn son! Surely, Sony has been doing the worst shait lately , I don't usually say this but I hope they turn some of those things around , it's a goodlve for xbox but We dlnt want all the gamers on the other aide getting screwed (they might want us to , but let's not be as toxic as them )
 
I remember my ol' lady getting me a 360 elite along with gears 1 on valentine's day back in 05-06.I was literally blown away by the gift of course there was a happy ending so win win for everyone.
 
Wow. That mod support rebuff is huge. Glad I got Fallout 4 on X1 (even though I also have a PS4). And now have no doubt about what console I'll be getting Skyrim on.

More and more I'm curious how things will shake out this generation. I own all three consoles this gen (and the two handhelds) and really only play the X1. My preference towards the X1 was solely because my friends play it and I like achievements (don't give one shit about trophies). Then the backwards compatibility news hit and I liked my X1 even more because I owned a lot of games for my 360. My PS4s fans can be quite loud playing some games like MGS5 (which to me did look and play better on PS4 as I beat it on both systems) but my X1 is whisper quiet and I really appreciate that. With the PS4 Pro news being tepidly received I'm curious how Scorpio will do. $600 seems like a blunder and $400 seems too cheap. So $500 seems like the right number for the mass market. That's $100 more than the PS4 pro though. If they go that route, what will the mass market care about price or specs? I'd assume price. Now, I know that argument can be made that if you want the entry level system, the PS4 slim and the X1 S will fill that market at a more affordable price. However, won't people feel like they're getting the short end of the stick at the bottom tier. Is the guy who only plays COD mind is he gonna think the PS4 pro and Scorpio are nearly identical (regardless of the reality) with the PS4 being cheaper. Unless Microsoft announces that occulus partnership when they come out with scorpio, sony will also have the shiny new toy with the PSVR. Microsoft needs people to switch ecosystems, if I already have games for the PS4 (especially digital) and friends on the PS4, isn't the extra money just another hurdle to stop that transition? Maybe they'll hope that the people with ps4s will just buy the cheap X1 S in addition to their ps4 for the exclusives and the die-hard xbox fans will buy the scorpio now and be the cheering squad for the other people a year or two down the line to upgrade. Maybe they'll take the loss and sell it for $400. Maybe they'll lower the expected specs to reach the $400 price point. Maybe they'll keep the higher price as it's a premium product. Just curious to see how this all ends up.

Last Gen I bought the PS3 about a year before the 360. But I played more on my 360. I had more friends on Live. This gen I opted for the PS4 over the One at launch. Wasn't paying $100 more for a Kinect I didn't even want to hook up. In March I picked a XBox One and have played it much more then my PS4 since. Mostly catching up on exclusives, cheaper games, or replaying a few games I already played on PS4. I think I like the XBox One controller better. Just feels more solid. Both are fine though. Will hopefully finish out the year mostly playing Gears of War.

No 4K HDR TV and if I get one it will likely NOT be for gaming. So I don't care about upgrading to the XBox One Slim (plus I hate white) or the PS4 Pro. Unless something drastically changes I will not be buying a new console or even considering one till Scorpio. And even then probably not. Just can't see what it will offer me on a 1080p set that will be worth $400-$600.

For the guy who just plays COD (I assume online) aren't they going to be locked into the same lower framerate that the base XBox One and PS4? If so no reason to upgrade either I don't think.

As you mentioned I have bought a decent amount of PS4 games during these 3 years. Sales seem to be better on PSN. However I have picked up 15% to 20% discounted Live credit which helps make it closer.

I will continue to enjoy both consoles but honestly I think a good chunk of the more casual gamer who already owns one or the other isn't going to sell their console and switch or own both and probably replace it with the same brand when the time comes to upgrade/replace.

For single player games I still usually pick playing it on my PS4 if price is equal. But if I can save some money I will grab the XBox One copy (or if the PS4 copies are sold out).

Thanks for mentioning the Dreamcast's anniversary. I've always looked at the Xbox products as a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast because of the Windows connection and the orientation of the thumbstick on the controller. Dreamcast is still my favorite system. Xbox 360 is my second favorite. And I plan to spend my early day off today playing some old favorites since I'm fortunate to own a VGA box.

I got the 2TB S during the second week of August.

Its in my home theater setup - which is kinda sorta sorted. It sits 8 feet from me.

I've heard the rumors that the S is slightly louder, but I do not notice the difference to my original XB1.

For what its worth, back in the day in the same location was my original 360. And my word, some days I wanted to take a sledgehammer to that thing. "Please.Shut.Up!!" So maybe my ears have adjusted to ignore anything that doesn't sound like a 747 taking off....but I have zero issues with my S.

 
Does anyone own Skyrim for :360: digitally? If so, can you see if there is a discount for Skyrim for :xb1:? I'm hoping Bethesda did something similar to what they did for Dishonored and offered previous owners a discount.

Does anyone own Skyrim for :360: digitally? If so, can you see if there is a discount for Skyrim for :xb1:? I'm hoping Bethesda did something similar to what they did for Dishonored and offered previous owners a discount.

EDIT: Not seeing a discount on the website, still $80. Maybe it's because I don't have a Xbone?

That's what happens when you jump out to what seems like an insurmountable lead, they tend to play it safe. Happened last gen with MS where the PS3 was all but a joke and they had to go all out and be innovative and undercut MS left and right and by the end they had even closed the sales gap to a respectable point and were able to use that momentum.

Don't forget Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Gunvalkyrie, Project Gotham Racing, Otogi and its sequel or the port of Shenmue II. I agree about the connection, one sort of picked up where the other left off.
 
Checked my other email and realize that's where the EA Access free trial from that hockey rewards went. I should've signed up our other profiles to get more. Oh well. Hopefully the trial doesn't expire since I'm gonna wait until they offer something nice.

XBox was definitely the unofficial successor to Dreamcast. Everything from the franchises that wound up exclusive there (ie all the ones you mentioned), Dreamcast being the first console with built-in online & XBox being the first console with built-in broadband online. Heck, according to Phil, up until very late in the console development cycle, Dreamcast games were actually going to work on the XBox, but Sega balked at the idea of XBox Live being a pay service vs. Sega Net. Too bad.

More and more I'm curious how things will shake out this generation. I own all three consoles this gen (and the two handhelds) and really only play the X1. My preference towards the X1 was solely because my friends play it and I like achievements (don't give one shit about trophies). Then the backwards compatibility news hit and I liked my X1 even more because I owned a lot of games for my 360. My PS4s fans can be quite loud playing some games like MGS5 (which to me did look and play better on PS4 as I beat it on both systems) but my X1 is whisper quiet and I really appreciate that. With the PS4 Pro news being tepidly received I'm curious how Scorpio will do. $600 seems like a blunder and $400 seems too cheap. So $500 seems like the right number for the mass market. That's $100 more than the PS4 pro though. If they go that route, what will the mass market care about price or specs? I'd assume price. Now, I know that argument can be made that if you want the entry level system, the PS4 slim and the X1 S will fill that market at a more affordable price. However, won't people feel like they're getting the short end of the stick at the bottom tier. Is the guy who only plays COD mind is he gonna think the PS4 pro and Scorpio are nearly identical (regardless of the reality) with the PS4 being cheaper. Unless Microsoft announces that occulus partnership when they come out with scorpio, sony will also have the shiny new toy with the PSVR. Microsoft needs people to switch ecosystems, if I already have games for the PS4 (especially digital) and friends on the PS4, isn't the extra money just another hurdle to stop that transition? Maybe they'll hope that the people with ps4s will just buy the cheap X1 S in addition to their ps4 for the exclusives and the die-hard xbox fans will buy the scorpio now and be the cheering squad for the other people a year or two down the line to upgrade. Maybe they'll take the loss and sell it for $400. Maybe they'll lower the expected specs to reach the $400 price point. Maybe they'll keep the higher price as it's a premium product. Just curious to see how this all ends up.

Two quick questions

 1) I had already bought the CAPCOM Arcade Cabinet All-In-One Pack.  I can play all the Arcade games in the pack on my 360.  On the Xbox One the CAPCOM Arcade Cabinet is backwards compatible, but I can't see any way to get all the DLC that makes up the game (can only play the base 3 arcade games that the download comes with).  Am I missing something?  Is there some way to unlock the rest of the games?

2) Galaga Legions DX -- Is it much improved over the basic Galaga Legions (which I wasn't crazy about)?  Should I give it a chance?  (I loved Pac Man CE DX)

Edit: and after a month, I was finally able to order Kinect adapter for the One S. When I tried to order it the rep was unable to process the order.

I'm surprised Darby hasn't mentioned the 2k17 demo having achievements lol

Not really. They whiffed hard on the Galaga Legions games compared to Pac-Man CE and DX, as they probably should've gone closer to what Space Invaders Infinity Gene did than a generic dual-stick shooter.

On the contrary, they normally wait an entire console generation before they let their arrogance and market share result in odd decisions that give an advantage to the competition which could have been completely avoided. They're doing it in half as much time now. I say this as someone who has loved all my Sony systems and played the most on PS3 until recently.

Yes, you can get all the games of the Arcade Cabinet on BC. I have them on my Xbox One. I thought I downloaded them through the game hub but I remember it being a pain to find.
 
Anyone here who is a first time player on overwatch like me want to play a couple of matches? I feel like playing overwatch but just not by myself.

yeah. They need to make it 1 less step. Right now you have to request to join, then I have to "invite" you from your request and then you have to accept it. There's no reason for that invite step.

Sent "invites" to the 4 people that were waiting though.

 
I still haven't recieved my EA Access vode , but I did receive a discount code , wonder when I'm gonna get the ea access code or if I'm even going to get one
