False Advertising is when they intentionally mislead you to make a sale (think "First one here gets half off!" and then they deny you the offer for whatever reason), usually valid at used car lots.

It's a small enough amount that I'm wondering if they would honor it for the sake of good will though..

Yup, I was one of the first to purchase Gears on eBay for $34.00 - the day before codes were being sold everywhere for dirt cheap.  My code was revoked.

I have contacted the seller to ask for a refund.

 
Yep, mine was revoked too. Damn it. Now hopefully the CAG who sold it to me will do the RIGHT thing and refund me. Had no idea this was a glitched thing prior to buying it. UGH!

Which is shitty for anyone who actually went through the proper steps for this, hopefully all of them are tech savvy enough to realize it's gone and go through NVIDIA support for another copy.

Aside from being an asshole for doing it, I agree with that. Even if you have no shame, it's not worth it if you have a ton of money dumped into Xbox's digital realm.

The reddit guy who I bought the code from has deleted his account it seems. I paid with the payments and services rather than the friends and family so I believe I should be good.

 
Yep.  Not sure if it makes a difference but I messaged the Reddit mods the original post  & the seller was tetrapost and also requested from the seller refund of $15.  Maybe others should give those Reddit mods a message just for a heads up but that's only if they haven't deleted their accounts.  This user have been there for over a year and have good feedback so hopefully we'll get a refund but PayPal Goods should cover it.  I'll probably hit up Nvidia too, I mean a bunch of people bought it without knowing it was too good to be true, maybe Nvidia will hook it up, we'll see.

Luckily I got mine on ebay, revoked. Seller returned message real fast about it not being incorrectly obtained but to do a return request anyway. Interesting, possibly it was legit but like others are saying were just nuked in mass.

Can I - as the buyer - formally request a refund on PayPal or eBay...?

The seller is saying I have to initiate on my end.  BUT...the PayPal FAQs page says otherwise.

Once a payment is marked as completed, it can no longer be canceled. However, you can request a refund of a completed payment. To request a refund, send the seller an email. Ask the seller to go to the Transaction Details page for your transaction and click Issue a refund.

I just did this earlier. There should be an option through ebay to request refund if you go to your transaction details or whatever it's called. There's a drop down box to select reason and a box you have to type a description in. But my seller told me the same thing and once I found it he refunded it within minutes.
 
Finally got the guy I bought my eBay code off of to issue a refund. He stated that he got the codes legitimately (he sold about 40 codes within a 2 day span), and he sent me an Amazon order invoice (which I assume he probably cancelled anyway). He said he is starting up an Internet cafe. Maybe I'm wrong but I have a hard time believing him.

I got a code from eBay user sassygirlcheryl, just messaged with a photo of the revoke screen (with my info out of frame just in case). Hopefully she just issues it, otherwise will try through the official channel. She sold over 50 codes in a couple days so I think eBay might side with me.

I've heard it's fairly easy to get refunds on digital purchases anyways, but have never needed to.

Yea thats him well i had messaged him about an hr ago and still no response.Maybe he's busy or maybe he thinks I'm just going to let it go but hellz nah i want my refund and I had asked him kindly to refund me because the license to the game had been revoked.
 
I feel bad for everyone who bought codes before they realized there was a scam going on, but not so much for everyone who bought them knowing they were basically stolen. What did you think was going to happen? Did everyone forget about Fallout 4?

I use my sister's comcast info to use tv apps on the xbox one and today I found out that there's a new Starz app and it combined  their apps, Encore & Starz Play  and it can't be authenticated because comcast/xfinity is not listed as a provider yet.  I guess I'll watch the shows there else where.  I'm glad HBO Go is still good to go.  Reading good things about Westworld without spoiling myself.  Luke Cage on Netflix is pretty good too.

If you try clicking on your preloaded game it will likely say something like, "To play this, you'll need to buy it".

Yeah, I feel you. I got hyped up in getting in on a deal, but now that I have the code, I remembered that I don't really like racing games outside of kart racers. I might just sell my code to a cag later around cost. I'll sleep on it and figure it out tomorrow.

PSA for those requesting a return/refund on ebay for the Gears codes. It seems like there's at least one seller trying to trick people by requesting that you cancel your dispute and re open a new one. Do not cancel your return.

 
I bought my Gears code off of eBay as soon as it was mentioned here. I paid $35 and just submitted a refund request through eBay.  The person I bought from ended up selling 25 of them.

I've seen them at Kroger a few days ago. I think you can only enter one code per day. It is nutty that they put the codes on the outside of the package.

Btw, I just created a second account and used the same code and it worked, so I guess they are not one time use. Got a second DLC code.

Just redeemed all 4 of my Totino codes. Got zombie JD, the two zombie weapons, and the zombie bounty challenge. Now to buy the 4 Rockstars tomorrow then I can concentrate on buying the exclusive dlc next week
