Because it's extremely well balanced and offers a huge roster of unique characters that all play differently. Also because the developers managed to strike a perfect balance between catering to hardcore players and still being open to neophytes. And lastly because it says "Blizzard" on the box.

If you have any interest, I would recommend spending more time with the game while it's free. Try a few different characters and really get to know their strengths and weaknesses. Play in a group with friends if you can. I don't normally play multiplayer shooters either, but every time I pick it up I can't help but be impressed at the care and attention to detail that went into this title. Sometimes a game is great not just because of what it does right, but because of what it doesn't get wrong.

Mostly Blizzard hype, but here's a few reasons I still play:

All progression/rewards are cosmetic. No matter how much someone else has played, they still have the same guns with the same damage and reload speed that you have. Skill > gear.

The heroes' kits (abilities and weapons) cover a huge variety of playstyles. Swap around and see what grabs you. Also keep in mind the game was designed around switching heroes, they have a rock/paper/scissors relationship rather than being balanced 1:1. So if the other team is piling up turrets, try switching in Junkrat to put some indirect fire down, etc.

Personally I like the maps, as I prefer a few well designed maps to a bunch of samey gray buildings with poor chokepoints and no alternate routes.

There are multiple ways to grief the enemy and your own team. Got 3 Tracers picked at the start? Go all Tracers and get the loss over with (this is also a great way to experiment without any pressure to do well). No one wants to be the healer? Play Mei, Roadhog, or Soldier 76 and self-heal (there are also a fair amount of health pickups available once you learn the maps). Team couldn't work together on the previous round? Play Mei and throw ice walls in their faces. Being a troll once and awhile is a good way to let off steam when your team just charges in piecemeal or refuse to PTFO.

That reminds me, when you die look at what your team is doing. If you're the only dead guy, hussle back. If a couple guys just died, wait a few seconds and group back up. There's only a couple characters that should be running around solo, and even then they ought to know when to group up.

Lastly, don't get frustrated if you keep dying to people's ultimates. Everyone's ult is OP and can completely turn the game around if played right. Listen for them to call them out, as a lot of times they can be easily countered. For example, "I've got you in my sights" and "It's high noon" can be easily avoided by breaking line of sight.


TL/DR: Blizzard has mad fanbois and it was a guaranteed success due to that alone.

Objectively this is probably the best sale I've seen on XBL so far. They do reveal more sales on Black Friday though. Skyrim, Gears 4, other stuff.

 
I wonder if the forza horizon 3 season pass will be on sale later in the week. I know there is a small discount that ends soon for ultimate edition owners, but it's probably just wishful thinking.

I got it launch and don't get the appeal myself. I keep it on my hard drive because downloading again takes forever but it never blew my mind.

If we they don't but they put on sale the Ultimate Edition I may just sell the disc and go for it, I'm playing it a LOT more than I expected, too relaxing.

I explored every single street and almost every bonus board, but I'm still far from completing the actual festival. I just like to drive around.

So the cheapest I can find Doom for right now is $18 on Gamefly. What are the odds of it hitting lower or going on sale on Live since it's not up currently? I know it'll be ~$20 next week at retail but I'm thinking Gamefly is the way to go.

Doubt it'll go lower than Gamefly. If it is at $25, I'd be a bit surprised.
 
Hmmm... Considering Mad Max, Batman:AK, Wolfenstein:Old Blood, Dishonored: Definitive and Rare Replay. That's a shit ton of gaming backlog for $55...

Also picked up TF2 and Overwatch yesterday with the Best Buy DOTD for $41 after a $15 MyBB cert...

I think all I'm grabbing on BF is FC:primal and SW:Battlefront (for the SP code and then sell disc on ebay)...

Oh - I had a weird BB experience yesterday. I bought the Infinity Saga Edition at BB on the DOTD for $8 at 2 stores up north for pickup, but I worked so damn many hours the last 2 days that I never felt like picking them up. I went in last night to cancel the orders and the cancel button was grayed out. When I hit the button to modify the order, it gave me the option to change the store pickup to free Elite shipping. I figured why the hell not... I'll just stick them in my gaming cabinet sealed...

I think Doom's lowest digital price so far is $30 back in August. I really don't think it's going to be less than $20 digital but the $2 extra over Gamefly may be worth the convenience of a digital copy. $20 digital is a long shot, though.

 
I thought that Telltale's Batman ran poorly on my PC, but my experience with the X1 version might've been even worse. I'm glad they made the first episode free on all platforms so I could compare, because while the PC version stuttered for me at certain spots (at one point, the frame rate was so bad I could barely select a choice in time because the game was a slide show), the X1 version also had a wildly fluctuating frame rate and no hit sounds would play during the Catwoman fight (meaning that it didn't even sound like they were hitting each other!). Combining that with the jerky, awkwardly-moving models made me feel like I was playing the goofy Adam West 1960s Batman at that point.

I've been a fan of all of Telltale's other games (mainly The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones), but this is absolutely terrible. I hope the people who've been expressing interest in it have done their research and know what to expect; Telltale's evidently moved to a new engine and the performance is absolutely terrible for something on a next-gen system, especially when the graphics don't look noticeably better than the games on their older engine (e.g. almost all of their other games).

When I was playing it yesterday, the fighting was stuttering with frame drops and lagging at parts and the game just completely
skipped the scene at the beginning where Batman breaks into City Hall and the game cuts back to Bruce and Alfred talking the first time

Any thoughts on these? Apologies if these have been discussed already. There are a lot of pages to comb through.

Also considering Batman TT, but I think I'm going to hold off on a better sale down the road. Gears 4 is keeping me busy in the mean time.

This War of Mine is the best of those three but it's also extremely depressing so depends on what you want. Got Grow Up through PS+ and it's not bad but the controls were annoying to me.

Haven't played Song of the Deep and was interested in it but have heard it didn't turn out as good as many hoped. Will hold out and see if it's maybe a GwG someday.

Heads up for XB Rewards members, I was reading through the T&C for the promo that offers $15 for preordering a physical copy from the Microsoft store and it says there's a 3 game limit. It says limit one reward per title, with a maximum of three games over the life of the promo. So you might want to check your history before you get another game thinking you're gonna get another reward. I went to order Dead Rising 4 and checked my history, then saw that I've already reached my three game limit. Guess I'll just pick it up from BB w/ GCU.
 
Since there were a bunch of posts about Just Cause 3, thought I'd mention that it's $11.99 at Redbox. Also, since it's not part of this sale and seems to be missing from Black Friday sales, Deus Ex Mankind Divided is $18.99 (picked up that myself).

Nice to know. Think I hit the three game limit with the Darksiders Remaster this week. I took advantage of the cheap preorders like it and RE4 because $4.99 after the $15 is sweet.

I'd suppose you'd still get the $10 credit if you don't get the reward which still is good for the $19.99 games.

Part of me wishes I didn't get in on the Dying Light gamestop season pass glitch for PS4 (bought seasons pass for $20 and they gave you a code for the full game instead, then a few days later they gave seasons pads codes too). Haven't even started the game still, and would rather play on Xbox, but can't justify double dipping on it when I haven't even tried it yet
