  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

For the price, Portal 2 is an easy sell even if you just play the SP. BC is icing on the cake (which is a lie).

Portal 2 eventually requires some quick reflexes but it may actually be a great game for her to acclimate to dual analog first person. No precise aiming, no enemies rushing you, can take most puzzles as slow as you like. I think for less than $7 it's a good gamble.
Hmmm. That's maybe a good point. It might be a good way to better acclimate her to the controls, if it's a lower pressure thing. Maybe if I could get her used to them finally, she'd be much happier because she could have a lot more games where she could blow things up. If she could play a GTA or Saint's Row IV or something without getting frustrated at the controls, I might have to fight with her for XBox time, heh.

I don't worry about SP because I have a big backlog of games, and I don't even really ever have to buy much of anything (thanks to GWG). I also just bought Skyrim on top of all that. So lately I've been concentrating on trying to get games she might actually play with me. But god, it's hard to find couch co-op at all, and even harder then to find ones that aren't first person or dual stick (I mean, it rules out even something like Toy Soldiers) or a sports game (which also use dual stick in a way too I guess, now that I think about it).

What about Child of Light? Different kind of coop, but might be more her speed.

Diablo 3 my wife will play as well.

Lego games maybe or Raymond series?
She played some of one of the Lego Harry Potter, but never finished it or really wanted to. I tried to get her to play Torchlight and she wasn't interested, so I know Diablo is a no go. She does some platformers like Battleblock Theater too.

If she enjoys the Marvel movies, the Lego Marvel game is great. Really funny, lots of familiar characters, and way more cinematic than previous Lego games. Watch a clip online, you may be surprised, a lot of people regard it as a turning point for Lego games since the formula had gotten a little stale.

I'm going to upgrade my portal 2 to digital. I never opened the shrink wrap on my copy for the 360 --I beat it on the PC.

If your wife doesn't like fps controls she's going to HATE playing portal. The game is brilliant and fun, but if a player has problems situating his/herself in a virtual 3D space, the game is very difficult. Moreover you're likely to get into frustration based squabbles trying to describe to her where she needs to aim/shoot, since the two player game relies on both people working together to solve problems.

The bigger problem you should solve is the solidity of your marriage. Don't make her play portal.

Buy it for yourself and enjoy.

This. Lego Marvel Superheroes is a god damned triumph. Every other Lego game pales in comparison. If you even mildly enjoy the marvel universe you should enjoy the game. There is so much to this game in the free roam portions and in character unlocks that in a Lego Dimension pricing model the game would be $500...

Lego dimensions has great teamwork components that make the game easier but are not essential. I think the Lego games are probably a great suggestion if you can find a franchise that she's interested in.

Yeah, I made it through the lava beast boss in Dark Souls 1 with a pyro build, then promptly accidentally killed the lady in Blighttown who teaches you all the awesome pyro spells when I was trying to kill some of those really annoying flying mosquitoes. And that's when I quit playing. I feel like Dark Souls 1 and 3 has more fluid movement than DS2, even when DS2 is the one with 60fps on xbox one.

ARK players... (are there any?)

On the fence on this one. How has the game come along since it first joined Game Preview? I know there are achievements now, but how is the gameplay loop?

EDIT:

Just read this review from the store page:

Its fun and challenging and exciting. Awesome creatures and beautiful places to explore. What I dont like is how grindy it is on a real server and all the problems with frame rate and server lag and random kicks from the game resulting in death for you and the dino you spent 5+ hours taming and a week to level up. Plus you will have to put up with pathetic bullies in game who just want to destroy everything you've worked for. The developers even added a dino to the game that can be used against you in servers where it wasnt supposed to be tribe on tribe violence. Plus, most public servers are used up. The good places to live are taken. You can try to squeeze a tiny shack in but any dino you have will sit outside and probably die. Alot of work to be done on this. Dont buy until its all fixed. The developers have already made a insane amount of money off a year old beta and a recent dlc to a broken game with bad servers. Greed is ugly. Finish the game!!! Don't trust the perfect reviews.
Is this true? Sounds awful...

I agree with these posts. My GF and I played Lego Marvel Superheroes earlier this year after I bought it for Xbox One for $5. My GF likes to play games but we both got hooked to this game. Any free time we had we were playing. It was our first Lego game. The only bad thing was my GF got addicted to playing as Hulk and yelling "HULK SMASH" all the time so I never got to play as Hulk. Lol

ARK players... (are there any?)

On the fence on this one. How has the game come along since it first joined Game Preview? I know there are achievements now, but how is the gameplay loop?
I personally haven't played it, but I can tell you this:

My son got Battlefield 1 (which he had been absolutely pining for, because his freinds had it) for his PS4 for Christmas, and some PSN credit. He promptly lost interest in BF1 and begged to buy ARK pretty much... solely because his friends had gotten it and maybe wouldn't be playing BF1 now. I told him not to, because 1) "because my friends just got it" is a terrible reason on its own, and 2) ARK is a bit of a known dumpster fire and was incredibly unfinished if you read around online, and it was very likely his friends wouldn't want to stick with it either. He ignored me, and blew all his credit he had gotten on it.

He is not happy with it, and I kinda' in a way hope he remains miserable with it and it never gets fixed so he'll maybe actually *listen* to me next time. He could have gotten multiple other games on sale at what he wasted on ARK that now he's unhappy with and it sounds like his friends don't like either. *shakes head* However, his friends have the luxury of parents who do nothing but buy games for their kids whenever they want, and he does not and will not...

Star Wars and yeah now Marvel Lego is all I play when people come over. Ha, and to think, I grabbed RE5 many moons ago to be the co-op couch game. The game that replaces that is Borderlands 2: Handsome Collection. Previously many many moons ago it was Soul Calibur.

Portal 2 is up there in my top 25 games of all time imo.

The game itself still runs like shit if that matters to you.

I have 30 bucks left. Should I get GTA 5?
$30 is definitely worth it if you've totally skipped the game until now. If you played it on 360 then it's mostly depends on if you're going to get your money's worth out of GTA Online, with the FPS mode as a minor bonus. They do keep adding stuff to Online all the time, though most of the new vehicles and freeroam gangs things are super expensive to try and push Shark Card microtransactions.

I bought The Division when it first came out. I enjoyed it, but wish I had waited for a sale. Leveling up all the way to level 30 was fun, and the story was serviceable. Great recreation of parts of Manhattan. The combat was fun and you had special gadgets. Don't expect COD style shooting, as enemies are bullet sponges if they are at or above your current level. I do not have any of the expansions.

There is online co-op that would be fun if you played with friends. Some content can only be beaten if you are in a group, so if you're planning on playing everything solo you might get frustrated. The game was patched to improve loot drops, which was one of the major gripes. Still not as good a loot game as Diablo or Borderlands though.

Tl,dr: The SP content is worth the sale price if you enjoy the bullet sponge style combat. If you have friends who will level up with you it will be better. The game has the beginnings of an MMO but the end game is lacking. Leveling up to 30 is the best part.

Lessons better learned at a young age.

So whats the deal with R6 SIege Complete Edition? I remember hearing the season pass was not worth it and now I see theres a Year 2 season pass.

Am I good just guying the base game? Will I be missing out on anything?

Not the best price, but I ended up grabbing Overwatch since I wanted it digital and had some Christmas money to blow.
Also bought Portal 2 since the first was amazing, and $7 is a steal.

Now I'm debating either Diablo III or Borderlands: THC...

Well the season pass mainly gives you the operators without having to grind the in game currency which I hear is a lengthy process and then you can't use that credit on other stuff. Believe Year 2 is the same way where it's mostly the new operators and then some other stuff.

I need to get around to playing Siege since I feel like I'm falling farther and farther behind on it. Too bad the first pass is gone so there can't be a sale to be able to pick up all those characters cheap instead of needing to grind for a year of not having played it.

Someone give me the lowdown on Tropico 5, por favor. It looks like the only DLC packs with achievements are Waterborne and Espionage...any other of the DLC packs worth getting? I'm pretty sure I'm going to get it as it looks like something I'd enjoy and there isn't a lot like it on XB1.

In unrelated news, I want to go digital on stuff like Diablo III or Overwatch, both of which I think are perfect games to have on my Xbox and ready to play at any time, but the sale prices are still so much higher than what I'd get for my discs that I can't justify it. That's the epitome of a #firstworldproblem right there, y'all.

The only games I got my wife to play are Peggle and Wheel of Fortune.
I feel ya, man. I got my wife to play quite a bit of Xbox 360, though she basically kept it to Sims, Viva Pinata, and Soltrio Solitaire, of all things. After awhile, she only really played when we'd play Hasbro Family Game Night or Rock Band together. I don't think she's ever logged on to our Xbox One, lol.

I ended up only playing solo because of it and it is crap solo also. Terrible game. If "We Happy Few" ends up being horrible, I will lose all hope in Early Access as ARK and Solus Project have both been so terrible.

The passes/complete edition only give you access to new operators that were not part of the vanilla game. You can play perfectly fine with the 20 default operators, which you have to unlock by playing and using the in-game currency anyways. Without the passes (just the base game), you still have access to everything else like new maps, weapons, gadgets, etc, including any new content released next year.

If interested, you can purchase all the year 1 new operators without grinding. There's a bundle that shows up in-game for the equivalent of $20 (not sure if these ever go on sale, though if you buy Xbox currency on sale, you're inherently getting a discount anyways).

You're good with the base game. Try the base game, play with the 20 default operators you unlock as you play. If you enjoy it, you will either (A) buy the DLC operators with cash once you know you enjoy it or (B) play for 250 hours like me and unlock all the DLC operators for free, with attachments, weapons, etc. All maps are free. Year 1 Season Pass gave owners the 8 released DLC operators with no need for in-game currency and they received them a week earlier than everyone else (not a big deal). Year 2 Season Pass, I assume, will only give the 2017 8 DLC operators, so you would need to buy the Year 1 DLC operators anyway.

Give the base game a "shot" and see if you like it. Then do what you need to do from there. Teamwork and talking is great in this game, my GT is "Job9229" if you want to play sometime.

EDIT: I wanted to add that the DLC operators in general aren't as good as the default ones IMO.

It's a fun game that doesn't run amazing, I have a lot of friends who are addicted and play it nonstop, you can play on either PvE or PvP servers if you don't want to worry about getting killed by others, and there are a lot of servers if you want to play on an emptier/newer one so there is more room to build, or you can just do a solo world, which isn't quite the same experience but lets you play/get used to stuff without worrying at all.

I agree with this. Portal 2 should get bumped to the top of your backlog. I didn't like it as much as Portal but in fairness it also wasn't the first time I experienced the concept. Portal games are a blast and super fun as far as puzzle games go. I have a 360 disc copy and I'll probably be buying digital and ditching the disc at this price. So even if she doesn't like it, there's a great game to be had. Which is really why she might come around to the FPS controls. The game is so fun that she may find the patience to stick with it.

I demo'd ARK when it was on sale around Black Friday. I played for about 30 minutes. Died 4 times, twice due to glitches, once because I had no idea what I was supposed to do (I wound up googling the controls), I'll explain the 4th reason below. It's an absolute dumpster fire. Playing solo the graphics ranged from glitchy to mediocre, gameplay left a lot to be desired and the best way I can sum up the game is this:

The 3rd time I died at night. I re-spawned at night. With nothing in my inventory and in pitch black. I couldn't even see wood/other materials needed to pick up in order to light a fire to see where I was going or what I was doing. Before it became daylight I died of starvation. Just sitting there. In the dark, unable to do or see anything.

That's ARK in a nutshell. It's such a mess that I'm surprised that Microsoft is letting them sell it (let alone the fact that they are also selling DLC for a game that isn't even close to being a finished product, which also tells you the developer's priorities). It just makes the whole game preview system look like shit.

I know nothing about ARK but in looking at the videos that Six min Whistle posted, it appears that the character's viewpoint is about 6 inches off the ground.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I got curious and went over to the PSN store to see ARK's price and it's like $55, and it's also the top-selling game on there right now (man my kid just dropped $55 on it?  Here I thought it was only like $40... $55 is even more painful).

With things like that in mind, and the way Steam users will buy just about *anything* if it has the least bit of hype..... I doubt the devs are going to learn any "lesson" that is actually good from it all.  Early Access, Game Preview, and their ilk all need to just die fiery, awful deaths.  I'd be shocked if ARK ever proceeds to a point where players would consider it "finished".  Very little motivation for them to finish it, they're getting their money now without it being finished...

I know this is the XBL thread but I'm pretty sure someone is holding a lowball with the ps4 year 1 season pass for siege as one of the items. Might be worth checking out if you really want to start on the game now. It's a really steep learning curve though.

Thanks so much guys! This was all very helpful. I definitely will pick it up, but seeing as how for an extra $40 I can get both Year 1 and Year 2 passes (as opposed to $20 for Year 1 and $30 for Year 2), im still deciding whether to splurge on the Complete Edition or not.
Decisions decisions...

Also, I will add you Job9229 :) Anyone else on R6, my gt is Mike OnThe Mike

Question: I beat Dragon Age GOTY and liked it but didn't play 2. I am interested in DA:Inquisition GOTY. The other problem is I've not played Demon Souls but I own the first one and Demon Souls 2 is on sale for roughly the same price. Everybody speaks so highly of the series.

TL:Dr - should I get DA:Inquisition GOTY or Demon Souls 2 Scholar of Sin?

Dragon Age takes a three-flusher shit on Dark Souls.

EDIT on top of that, you own the first DS and haven't even touched it yet, but you want to buy the 2nd one? No man. Just no. Get Dragon Age.

If actually playing what you buy is suddenly a requirement, there are a *lot* of people around here who won't be allowed to buy games anymore...

Really depends on what you want. Those are very different games. One is a party based RPG. The other is a hard as nails hack n slash. The Souls games aren't for everyone.

There are people out there that have to flush 3 times when they shit? I'm not sure I've ever even taken a shit that actually required more than one flush

I once dumped a poop from a diaper into the toilet. That mofo was like a baseball, appeared pretty solid. I don't know how that even came out, poor baby. The second I pushed the flush I knew I made a mistake but I wasn't going to grab it out. Anyways that thing go stuck. I flushed and plunged for about 5 minutes. It was stuck down there. Eventually it went down by my god. That was a bigger pain in the ass than anything I have ever done.

Don't forget:  tomorrow is Digital Day on Amazon.  Deals on apps/games, music, videos, ebooks, and maaaaaaybe codes for some digital console games it looks like... maybe.  Deals go live 3am Eastern/12am Pacific

It's got active Achievements, so I doubt there will be much left to add at this point.

It is mostly about the size of the flush valve in the toilet. A 2" valve can get stopped up pretty easily so if the person is crapping into a toilet like that a double flush isn't uncommon and a triple isn't unimaginable. /dadmodeoff

I wouldn't be surprised if I've asked this before since it's on sale so often but how does ESO compare to skyrim? I have the physical version but would be tempted to pick up the digital/gold version. I have Skyrim digitally and can't decide if both is too much or not.

Thanks for the input fellas. I'll get DA:Inquisition GOTY.

Another question:I redeemed my Bing points for a $5 XBL card. The credit doesn't show up when I want to buy Catherine but is shows up in DA:Inquisition. Any ideas why it won't let me use it on Catherine?

You can only use credit for 360 games when buying them on a 360 console.
