Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
[*]Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Halo CEA wasn't two discs, so I'm not sure what comparison you guys are making. I don't really see what was holding it back since it was all on one disc. They just announced digital is coming though.

"Also, note that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary isn't available just yet as a digital download, but will be soon, and is still backward compatible via disc. "

No comparison other than games that were previously incapable of being digital finally are, and MS has never bothered to make the first entry of their flagship franchise available digital, even though it came out after Halo 3 and ODST and before Halo 4, all of which are on XBL.

"I don't see what was holding it back." That's all I meant, it's very odd.

I didn't look into the reddit thread, but if you can just add currency to your account then you're in the clear. If you have to provide a billing address where you don't receive mail, that's when you violate ToS and commit fraud. We're talking about the language setting on xbox.com, which if you're still unclear is a US website owned and operated by a US company.
I was referring to the reddit post that linked to a russian website to buy russian xbone codes from. Tighten that girdle, Brannigan!

got an email about the 30% off the 10$ microsoft card for points

for anyone that was confused yesterday about doing the quiz and nothing showing up

comes in a separate email

Excited about the BC Halo news.  Maybe now I'll finally start Halo 4.  My siblings and I still play Reach (we have enough for 8 people).

OXENFREE was trip. Also- gave me nightmares but I'm planning on going back for more.  I'm a vivid dreamer; what can I say.

But it's short and has amazing voice acting.  13/10

^Rewards are working for me.

It was funny because I saw this before I saw the email. Did the super easy scavenging hunt and then it took me to the redeem page where yup there it is 30%. Sooooo, the email was a portal then?!

Just for reference I got an upgrade llama - from the V Bucks I had gotten from challenges - three times so that's 1) silver 2) gold & the 3rd) Boom lots of goodies spill out.

Got a legendary shotty, Tigerjaw, (1,075.2 DPS) which I'm saving my schematic XP to level up for now!

I had also gotten an email, Your Fortnite Battle Royale Founder's Reward, that said they were giving me a Founder glider (camo) and if I've won a match a Founder umbrella (again is camo).

I just got around to playing some Halo 3 MP. It was several hundred around BC time. Just a hour ago it was several thousands.

It's rather rough going back to Halo 3 BC especially when you factor in Halo MCC. It's hard to go back to 30fps but it was fun. Curious as to what the numbers will be come the weekend.

with og xbox BC anyone think there is any chance of getting more digital xbox originals?
I would hope they do, I'm not sure how much stuff they offered digitally on the 360 from the OG Xbox. I bought Pirates, Psychonauts, and Ninja Gaiden Black off the top of my head, but I don't remember there being a ton of them in the 360 store.

I saw someone say ODST had the best firefight, I thought that was easily the worst of the firefights myself haha
They're different enough that it comes to preference.

ODST: Tough as nails to survive for long, requires constant communication and teamwork. Maps, spawn areas, and weapon spawns are crafted to support this design philosophy.

Reach: Tweaked drastically to make it work for matchmaking. Now you have general loadouts, which generally focused on getting the highest score possible in a time frame or completing one set, rather than the 4 sets generally aimed for in ODST because of Endure. While you could bump the difficulty to be more like ODST in custom games, it functionally became a blow off steam mode. The hardcore mode basically became impossible to play as the low stress Arcade mode became popular.

Halo 4: Replaced with Spartan Ops, a failed experiment to give story players something worthwhile in the matchmaking side of the game. The story was bad mostly from virtually all characters being terrible, especially Fireteam Majestic that were the focus of the cutscenes while your own Fireteam Crimson was there to clean up their messes. Overall I'd compare this more to the campaign gameplay than Firefight. Other than having way more enemies it was pretty much the same, with weapon drops and was no round system. Outside of gameplay this is the example I usually go to for 343 clearly wanting to but their own huge stamp on the series, with the heavy focus on how "cool" the Spartan IVs were, something that didn't actually have any merit until Halo 5 with Fireteam Osiris.

Halo 5: Added as an afterthought to try and get Arena only players to use the weapons you can only get from microtransactions. It was ridiculously hard on launch, trign to get you to burn through REQs to have any chance of finishing. Once they added more difficulties it became much better. The easiest mode, Heroic, feels between ODST and Reach, though a lot closer to Reach.

When you look back at ODST, and remember that it was made by the core team that then went on to work on early Destiny instead of Reach, it's pretty clear that a lot of Raid ideas were taken from it. Possibly the Nightfall to, with ODST adding the Skulls in as you got farther.

If I'm reading all this halo discussion correctly to complete my full halo line up in XB1 I need:

1) Halo MCC as it has 60 fps.

2) Halo 3 ODST for Xbox 360 as it is now BC. There is an ODST dlc for MCC but it is campaign only. So you sacrifice 60 fps for mutiplayer or vice versa with ODST. Or you get both.

3) Halo Reach. Only available for Xbox 360 and now BC.

4) Halo 5: Guardians for Xbox 1.

RE: Pubg and fortnite

Man, if only they actually released a game they could have capitalized on it. How the heck do you put out early access on mutiple platforms like that, when that development time could have been spent finishing the game.

I would not be suprised if final version doesn't come out. Or if it ends up being crap

LOL.

PvP has been around for decades. I'm sure Epic planned a Battle Royal mode early on. The only dig I see at PUBG is that they're making it free and beating them to market on console. Sorry but that's just good business.

Our big news is the initial version of Squads coming 9/26 with support for DBNO (down but not out), duos (2 players) and squads (1-4 players). Emphasis is on “initial” as we are optimizing for getting the feature out ASAP and will continue to iterate and polish afterwards. The squads playlist will be enabled on 9/26 and we will monitor population numbers to decide when to enable duos.

I have a question about this weekend (4 days?) Forzathon.  Haven't you been able to three star the same speed zone repeatedly and have it count?  You have to do three, 3 star speed Zones in a specific Lambo.   Found a spot that was easy for me to do this.  Did it like 4 times but only counted once.  Went to another spot and missed 3 stars by like 1 MPH.  But it then gave me credit (via achievement tracker) for my second one.  I then did that location legit 3 stars.  Nothing.   Had to go to another location to get the last one.

Wonder if they changed that on purpose or if I had some weird glitch going on or what.

All I have left is 3 play ground games in a mini.

I'm mainly excited for Fortnight Battle Royale because free and since the others are taking time to get to Xbox lol.

Also Six min whistle, just wanted to say, that I definitely do agree with most of what you said, I said ODST was my least favorite firefight but I still did enjoy it and played a good amount of it, I just liked the later styles a bit more, but it was definitely a lot more challenging at its core without custom modes and such. I enjoyed Reachs a lot, but Reach is my favorite Halo and I just enjoyed everything about that game. H5 Firefight has definitely gotten better.

I'm looking forward to this but I still think they should just throw in random mutant storms that pop up and keep things interesting or say a balance against turtlers. I was watching a guy turtle for at least 5 minutes and it was so satisfying to see him get cut off when the zone shrunk and he got caught in his own fortifications hahaha.

Also my internet via hotspot is back to normal! F'n finished downloading Saints Row: The Third and Lifelock. Grabbed the Minecraft update and new Minecraft download as well but that's it. I'm saving myself for Forza lol!

The biggest thing out of this is the supersampling for me because I haven't upgraded to a 4K TV setup yet. Supersampling should improve textures, frame rates and automatically kick in before a supported update tweaks things to really take advantage of the X's hardware.

I disagree. For one, your example has a 20 year gap rather than a few months.

The real issue is that Fortnite was created as a tower defense survival game. PvP was clearly never a focus for development. A more natural fit for a PvP mode would be a ripoff of CastleStorm. Something where two teams build up bases, then lead armies of husks against each other.

Battle Royale, or even Deathmatch, are terrible fits for the gameplay of Fortnite. It's clearly just tacked on and pushed out to feed off the hype of PUBG. It also doesn't help Fortnite, because people will play that lackluster free mode and write the whole rest of the game off, the rest being the systems that the game was actually developed around. Anyone that jumps into Fortnite to wet their appetite while they wait for PUBG are going to jump ship as soon as PUBG launches.

So I repurchased Dying Light and fired it up and my save is gone! I know the game got the “enhanced edition” patch (sans the DLC). Did that blow away original game saves?

Very annoying because I know the game takes a while to get going and didn’t want to go through that whole apartment building stuff again. That was boring enough to turn me off the game the first time around. But I wanted to give the game another shot.

Anyway, has anyone else lost their game save for Dying Light at some point?

Your saves are still there - it's just that they're incompatible with the "GOTY" edition of the game. All the Warner Bros.-published games are like that: Batman, Witcher, etc.

Not an issue in my mind. Games in development can you know, develop into whatever they want, as they're not finalized yet. You can't trademark, copyright or patent a game mode.

Platformers became the-new-next-thing when Mario showed the world how it was done. There were a bunch of Tetris, Doom and GTA clones because that's how the gaming industry works (even more blatant in the mobile gaming industry)...

It looks like the internet has one less thing to rage about.  The most recent Alpha Ring update removed that pesky fuzzy bar from the lower half of the :xb1: home screen.

Somebody should tell him that he doesn't get to have much of a say about making games based on other people's ideas when he got the idea from a 17 year old Japanese movie.

Fortnite's Battle Royale mode is pretty good, though it still obviously needs some work since it has no stats, progression, character creator, squad support, and some other things to flesh it out a bit. It'll do until PUBG is out, so Brendan should keep working on that since it'll sell just fine whenever they finally get it on consoles.

It’s the internet, they’ll be raging about the fact they have one less thing to rage about soon enough.

What should I take on next from the backlog... Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain, Mass Effect Andromeda, or Shadow of Mordor?

I get what you're saying, and in the case of GTA V adding a BR mode I would agree with you. My point was that Fortnite in particular is a poor fit for a BR game and having played it, it's not well balanced for direct PvP like DM or BR.

If I'm reading all this halo discussion correctly to complete my full halo line up in XB1 I need:

Yeah, that would have you covered for now. While I personally think ODST's Firefight is the best, you're going to have to put in effort to actually play it now. Either you'll have to organize with friends ahead of time, or use LFG. Currently on LFG I see 3 posts for Firefight, one of which is for Spanish speakers. But yeah, it's still worth trying, maybe you can get a regular group to do so if you guys end up liking it. The connection issue I mentioned is a potential hurdle too. The last time I was able to play some serious games of Firefight was a few years back at LAN party, so when I get some time I'll probably try to figure something out myself. Attempting and completing Endure (complete 4 Sets on Heroic, which takes about 2 hours) the 7 or 8 times I did, is still one of the most satisfying experiences I've had in gaming, right up their with Vault of Glass.

Anyways, I'd say it's worth picking up both since the DLC is only $5, and you likely can find ODST for $5 used somewhere that isn't Gamestop. There's no real benefit to playing campaign on the 360 version now. If you want ALL Halo stuff you've got both Wars games, and the shit Spartan Assault is out. The much better Spartan Strike is Win 10 exclusive for some reason.

I wasn't trying to shit on the other games either, aside from maybe Halo 4. I probably played 10 times more of Reach's FF than ODSTs, simply because of matchmaking, and I've had fun with the Halo 5 version with the little I've played of it.

As for the Fortnite talk, I think you guys are being a little naive if you really think they were doing a battle royale mode before PUBG exploded. Epic has never had a mode even remotely like that, and this kind of PVP mode was never teased or anything in the super long time the game has been in development. Not to mention the 4 (?) player limit in the default mode. Even if they had a somewhat similar idea in the pipeline, they clearly aped as much as possible from PUBG, with exact rips of stuff like the parachute entrance and closing electric walls. I've got nothing against them, Epic themselves already spawned a similar phenomenon with Horde in Gears 2. Really, just makes Bluehole look bad. Clearly every game that is capable is going to copy their format, they just need to shut up and try to make good improvements overtime so their massive following keeps growing.

Well Fortnite's BR mode allows players to directly affect the buildings around them via the construction mechanic. You're getting shot from a far so you can do a # of things 1) find and shoot back at the player, 2) run and hide from the player or 3) build up a fortification for cover 4) lure that player into a fortification or building and take them out with a trap.

I'd say that's their own flavor to things and well I didn't say it, who's saying they, they didn't have this idea before and after it in now. Quite likely is gonna happen after the commercial success H1Z1/Rust/PubG & GTA 5 Online all have received.

What about that other BR game coming to Xbox and was demoed at E3 with a over serious announcer/shoutcaster. That's also in the BR market, why does that game get a pass. Well because nobody knows of it. This is all good news for Fortnite imo.

The Fortnite devs put out a dev update video where they talk about a number of things but apparently yeah, speaking of Halo's FireFight, there's people that are doing the "Fortnight" length of 4 hours in the game (the devs were surprised how many people challenged that mode) - I might have if I was higher level, it's kinda raid level stuff. Also the next community event will be "Horde Bash" where it'll be a persistent fort and waves of zombies. Win win, a little bit of everything for everyone really, Survive the Storm or Battle Royale.

Since it's CAG Confession of shame night I guess I'll take my turn. I can't complete Pac man Champion Edition....i've been at it for god damn 5 years and still can't get that mythical 400k.....I'm not talking about the easy ass DX version just vanilla CE.....perhaps I'll hit the cold depths of earth for that final slumber, a defeated man.

Are you thinking both speed traps and speed zones counted? The challenge is just for 3 speed traps. I did one of them twice, the 135 MPH one by the entrance to the construction site west of the Outback festival.
