Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

So, the Gears of War official facebook page just posted a gif from the Gears of War 2 campaign and added the following: "Engineers should always have the right tool for the job..." along with the #gearsofwar4 hashtag

If Dizzy wasn't in the game as a craft-only character, I'd say they're teasing him. A new mode? Gears 2 remaster? The Coalition just having some fun with "cryptic" posts while everyone else overthinks it?
Engineer would only really mean Baird if it's a character. Probably a young variant from one of the old games, probably 2 if that's the gif they used. I know plenty of people have been asking for him. Maybe another Gears 2 map to go with it.

SpiderMan Web of Shadows got added to the XBox DVR site...really starting to have my doubts now lol.

Also BF3 is now available digitally for non-EA Access members... at $20.

https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Battlefield-3/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80245410950?DownloadType=Game#LiveZone

There was a brief advertisement showing BF1 free on the Vault on some peoples dashboards according to reddit. So might be coming sooner rather then the rumored November timeline.

Also if anyone still doesn't own their copy of MW2 It's still $5 at Gamestop.
I'm sorry, what's the significance of Spiderman WOS being posted there?

I'm sure that depends on sales. I'm hearing pretty mixed on the game from both reviewers and normal people, but I'm not really seeing a ton of discussion in general.
Mixed? I think it’s generally gotten really good reviews. Game is really, really good. Incredibly atmospheric and amazing sound. Definitely succeeds in that battle with mental illness feel and just a unique game all around.

As much as I love my Xbox, there’s been some outstanding exclusives this year that had me dusting off PS4 that I hadn’t played much.

Do hope Hellblade comes to X1. Ya’ll need to play it (unfortunately know things like Nier, HZD and Persona 5 will not make their way over).

These are the games that Sony had cooking for so long when they were telling people Greatness Awaits and selling a ton of consoles on that promise. Big exclusives, or big timed exclusive games for that matter, take a lot of time and I think while there's not a ton coming out on Xbox right now we're just in the gestation cycle of game development at the moment for Microsoft Studio/partner games. I'm looking forward to Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Cuphead and Sea of Thieves but you prob know that already lol. v

Speaking of sales, apparently Tales from the Borderlands was considered a financial failure to Telltale. They cut 95%(!) development team before the final two episodes, which is why they took a while to actually come out. They managed to be as good as they were because the team actually gave a shit.

Doesn't sound like it bodes well for a second season or sequel though. I think it looks pretty shitty on Telltale's part too, they just killed an entire team that was working on a game plenty of people had already paid for with the season pass. The game came out fine so I guess that does speak for itself, but if this is how they manage their resources it just supports the suspicion that they spread themselves too thin with all the projects they take on at once.

That sucks on the companies part. I paid for TFtB and Batman, and the first Guardians episode. I've never paid for a Walking Dead game or episode, so they're not getting any sales from me on that front. But yeah, seems best to wsit and buy their season pass after sll the episodes have been released, not before.

Speaking of sales, apparently Tales from the Borderlands was considered a financial failure to Telltale.
it was pretty clear when they announced Tales from the Borderlands, and everyone responded with "no one asked for this". Even though it turned out to be a good game, nobody wanted to play it.

Here's the neogaf thread when it was revealed, you can read the responses:

I wouldn't say it was overwhelmingly negative when it was announced, Neogaf isn't exactly the most unbiased source. It was certainly unexpected, but I'd say the atmosphere I was seeing back then was a bit more positive (on /v/ of all places, and more general gaming discussion sites). I think it turned to an overall positive once the first episode was actually out too. Most of the initial negativity was either people that already hated Gearbox and Borderlands for their shit writing, or hardcore fans that wanted another loot focused FPS.

Personally I was a lot more skeptical of the Game of Thrones game announced around the same time as this and The Wolf Among Us. It seemed like a filler cash grab more than the others because of the source material and the freedom the others had, with Tales being mostly new characters in a universe dying to be fleshed out by a competent story-telling team, and Wolf being a direct prequel to the Fables series.

If anything, Wolf Among Us was way more unknown than virtually every other game they've made and it did well enough to get a sequel, so I don't think the initial reaction held back Tales all that much. 4 years ago was before the current negativity against Telltale really set in, with their still buggy-as-fuck games, garbage ancient engine, and often unannounced delays for unknown amounts of time.

Reddit thread about a pretty sweet deal for an XB1 Elite controller:

https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/6s8ary/deal_xbox_elite_controller_for_only_55_after/

TL;DR-

1. Trade in an existing XB1 controller, get a $20 gift card and $30 off coupon for purchase of an Elite controller
2. Sign up for student deals (no .edu email address needed or any other kind of proof) to get 30% off an XB1 accessory.
3. Everyone in the thread has confirmed the deals stack for a total purchase price of about $70.

Best of all, extended warranty price goes down to $15 since it's based on the purchase price. Out the door for $85 w/ warranty.

I'm going to do it for sure.

What happened to Guardians, anyway?
Third episode comes out in a week or two and it's been dreadfully slow. Game really hasn't done a great job of keeping my attention. Which is kind of sad given I'm a huge GotG fan from Abnett and Lanning's run.

Still not as bad as TT Batman was, though.

Got mine right here. Used some games I picked up from GS to buffer most of the remaining cost. These controllers are great.

Time for my noob question of the month...

For those who have the play and charge kit... how do you know when the battery is fully charged?  The cord from the Elite doesn't have the indicator light.  When I press the Xbox button, it shows the logo of the battery, but the charge level keeps refreshing.  I'm not sure if that just means its plugged in or that it's still charging the battery

there is an led built into the connector that plugs into the controller. the led changes from yellow (charging) to white (full capacity). it's safe to leave plugged in when fully charged, if that's the reason for your question.

Yes I understand that, but there isn't an indicator on the cord that comes with the Elite controller. Not even sure if it's actually charging.

Hmmmmm... think I just figured it out. Just unplugged the cord and the controller shut off. I guess the cord that comes with the controller doesn't charge the battery

I'm sorry, what's the significance of Spiderman WOS being posted there?
Web of Shadows and Wolverine were delisted. Would be odd of them to go BC but here they are. I'm just gonna take a guess that Activision re-acquired some BC rights similiar to the MUA1+2 releases. But I really have no idea.

For anyone that has played For Honor recently, are the dedicated servers up? Or are they putting the trial up despite still being peer to peer? I have a lot of interest for the game but apparently the peer to peer connections really hamper the enjoyment along with the push for micro transactions. The rating for the game is actually 2 stars on the market place.

Scroll down. Someone was able to trigger the xbox DVR website to add non-BC games. The dream is probably dead.

yup, used the $10 GC I got for my Agents Of Mayhem preorder to get the controller for $60 out the door. I didn't get the warranty though, already comes with a one year.

Now I'm more confused....are you saying Wolverine is going BC? I loved that game. One of the few movie tie ins that was actually good.

The peer to peer is definitely crappy, but in my experience it has only amounted to a handful of drops. The microtransactions were terrible in the beginning because the amount of Steel you got for matches were pitiful. They've increased it so it's easier to get a ton now. It takes a little bit longer to unlock a dlc character than it does in Siege now. Just remember to only buy the 3 day boosts and ignore everything else (upgrading gear is worthless until you hit max level).

Fallout 4 GOTY Edition releases 9/26.

I bought Fallout 4 at launch and have still barely even touched. Haven't been able to stay as interested as I was with 3. Does the DLC really add anything worth splurging on or should I keep waiting for the season pass to drop?

I've had it at launch and played a lot of it - not close to being done. As for the DLC, the expansions are pretty good so far. The little workshop crafting DLC stuff sucks. I like crafting in games, but hated it in Fallout 4.

That said, I'm considering a double dip. Might get the GOTY for PS4.

Same. Except I bought the one with the season pass before it went up in price, but I never even got to any of the DLC. After 30ish hours and almost being at the end of the main quest line, I just decided that I had enough.

I realized that Fallout 4 was probably not worth spending more time with based on how ridiculously excited I was just because of robot gorillas. Whenever something that small becomes your driving force into playing more of a game, you realize how formulaic and disappointing the experience as a whole was. Or maybe I'm just in a rut. I have played 2 days worth of Friday the 13th in the last month.

GW2 is really just an improved version 1, and I Cant imagine the servers are very populated
Yeah, GW2 is nice, but I kind of still like the original more. The GW2 seems to have too many gadgets and is a lot more fast paced.

Fired up the game for the first time and got put into a Welcome Mat server. The servers are still up and pretty active. Took my search about 8 seconds to find a GW1 match. Now to determine whether I'll enjoy this first match enough to start playing it.

Edit: I'll probably put some time into it. Had fun even though I didn't know anything more than aim and shoot.
Garden Warfare was a niche classic. Played the living shit out of the game. The second was awesome as well.
Yeah, it's still active. I do have a the disc version. Kicking myself for not getting the digital version for $5 last year.

Beat Walking Dead: A New Frontier last night. I thought it was a really good story overall but I thought the characters in the first two were better. I'm partially through Jurassic Park, BttF, and Minecraft so hopefully by the time I finish those the rest of Guardian's of the Galaxy is out.

Also had to serve a 24 ban on xbox live. Some douches messaged me talking shit after a RL match and I simply asked if they were and boom, banned.
