Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Again, I'm probably late to the party, but you can rent the movie A.X.L. for 99 cents on Microsoft Movies & TV for the next 3 days.

The robot dog looked pretty cool in the trailer.
Ha I caught some of it on a plane after a long day of travel and was listening to something else with my headphones. There was a good 15 minutes of staring at it that I thought this is the new Transformers and the dog was one of SoundWave's cassette tapes from the new BumbleBee movie. Also learned who a Becky G was.

Wasn’t sold on Anthem during the demo weekend I played but really liking the campaign so far. Only thing is that the game crashed on me and I had to replay from the beginning again. So, yeah, might be wise to hold off a bit.
The full game is a lot better/more stable than the demo was, in my experience so far. Looks amazing on X1X too.

Yeah, the only big issue I had was that crash that made me have to restart those introductory missions. Had trouble with matchmaking at first too. But since then, very stable. Much better frame rate than the demo and it does indeed look gorgeous on the X.

Anyone get Final Fantasy 9? I'm hearing reports of the game getting stuck in a loop at the title screen. I swear, it's like Square does this stuff on purpose.

Also, I forgot how alot of early Konami XBLA games had their own 'Victory' theme when you unlock an achievement. Pretty cool as it reminds me of the early XBLA days and when Konami gave a damn about videogames.

Controversial opinion ahead....

Jumped over to my PS4 last night while I was waiting for Crackdown 3 to download and go live. Played some God of War (2018). Actually felt a bit bored while playing.

Jumped back to my X1X and started Crackdown. And now, thinking about it, was having more fun with it than I did with GoW.

fuck the reviews.

I'm with awp.

I've tried playing God of War three times.  I just can't get past the six-hour mark in that game.  Its kind of opened up, I can see that there is some exploration to do...but it just hasn't grabbed me.  I feel like it plays itself most of the time.  And if you're not really into its combat or sold on the father-son dynamic...then I'm not sure what else there is to love.  So I try to make myself love it every three months - and inevitably fail.

Spider-Man, though.  Loving that so far!

Within the game. It's such a pain. It took me several times before I remembered you have to put the dashes in too.

If you think Crackdown 3 was going to be AAA, then don't know what to tell ya

The NBA codes are redeemed within game or the spot where you redeem all other codes?

Lol at you with your mom joke. Well done.

Oh boy, barley animated motion comic cutscenes are what I like to see in a AAA level game. Off to a great start Crackdown 3.
Just for being the last 10 posts in this thread I see before I go to bed, the 10 of you are entered into my 'out of nowhere' random giveaway for a $5 Xbox Gift Card. It's my way of giving to those who just participate in my favorite forum on the webs.

Tomorrow is NBA All-Star Saturday night. One of the events is a 3 point shootout. There's 10 contestants in that event. You'll each be assigned one in the morning. Whoever has the winner gets the $5 gift card.

Very awesome of you! I have to admit, I was scrolling through your post just thinking "where in the HELL is this going?" lol

I'm 20 hours in on God of War and have really enjoyed it, but apparently not enough to finish it. I have no idea how far along I am.

Crackdown 3 looks great, plays much better than I expected after replaying some of the original. It feels the same, but different. Scratches the itch very well in a "one more thing" way. Agree that I would have liked full Terry Crews. Can someone explain the opening for me? The sound mix was awful and I couldn't understand the opening scene. They're going somewhere, green, dead. Playing I can put the clues together that I know what happened, but I still don't know what happened.

I thought in 2 the Agency was the villain?

I got the Crackdown achievement punchcard but not the buy it one. Gamepass achievement card is also not adding up for me, stuck at one.

Curious, did you launch the game prior to or after the card went live?
I played it before the card, earned maybe a handful of achievements as well. I checked for a card before my initial launch, wasn't there and I assumed they wouldn't do one with it being game pass

I think all the agents blew up but they saved your brain and half your torso ala a Sub Zero fatality, you find DNA strands of agents as another collectible. Some kind of drones attack called the Black out. I don't know I turned to music after about an hour but I can see the game has kept talking to me with radio chatter in the top right corner.

Just for being the last 10 posts in this thread I see before I go to bed, the 10 of you are entered into my 'out of nowhere' random giveaway for a $5 Xbox Gift Card. It's my way of giving to those who just participate in my favorite forum on the webs.

Awesome. Thanks for the chance!

And yeah, also wondered why you were quoting some completely unrelated posts, lol.

Well I won't say I like Crackdown 3 more than God of War but I can say I'm having a hell of a lot more fun with it than, to compare it to another open world game, I did with RDR 2. Crackdown has me wanting to play it more instead of feeling like I'm obligated to like I felt with RDR. It's a simple, fun game that looks pretty good and runs well (on X1X at least) which is exactly what I expected.

That’s about the same with me. Combat is good in it but gets old after a while. Story itself is actually well done but I can’t say for sure why it hasn’t grabbed me.

TBH, I enjoyed the earlier GOW games better combat wise. Maybe I like more mindless hack and slashing.

Spider-Man is more fun, if a bit repetitive. But always had a thing for even just swinging around the city.

Im the total opposite. Loved GOW. Maybe because I have a son and can relate to that aspect. I hated Spider Man. Pre ordered digitally. Played for an hour and have never gone back lol.

Well, I got the Wife hooked on Crackdown 3, we are having a blast playing co-op campaign. It's just as much fun as I remember having with the 1st game. I feel like it's going to be a little short though, so I'm glad it is on GamePass. Otherwise, I'd probably wait for it to be ~$15 if I had to buy it.

I’m glad I’m not alone on God of War. I thought it was excellent and worthy of praise, but I thought both Odyssey and Red Dead Redemption 2 were better in terms of gameplay, story, and content. I put in over a hundred hours on both; I didn’t actually finish GoW and instead YouTubed the rest of the story.

After playing Crackdown for about 4 hours last night I have to wonder if the reviewers are working on either an agenda, or mass imitation. This gen has a poison well in the form of YouTubers that slander a game before release, only to see copycat reviews pop up all over the place.
This CD plays like the 1st with substantial improvements. The look is cell shaded like the first, which it should be. Why would it make sense to change the art style? The world is fun, and mindless....it's CD. The joy of CD has always been collecting orbs and becoming an unstoppable superhero....they fully nailed that here.
For a $9.99 gamepass subscriotion this is an amazing bargain right now just as Forza Horizon 4 was at launch.
I think at this point as to reviews, Microsoft will always get negative results. Even when a review gives them a high score, the reiewer pops negatives all throughout to poison the product appeal. "Forza Horizon 4 is great, but it feels and plays like the 3rd"......well duh it's a sequel.
If you like CD1, I strongly suggest you jump into the campaign of CD 3.

For the last 5+ years. Very few “reviewers” will i even read/listen to. I’d much rather see gameplay videos with little commentary and demos.
And its not limited to games either...

True that......the internet for all its good has a nasty double edge in the form of poisoned rhetoric from untalented commentators hoping to get famous.

So I'm on the Microsoft Rewards on the Xbox One and it looks like the Hot Deal displayed on here is Microsoft Solitaire, Mahjong, Jigsaw, and Word Games.

Didn't see it mentioned yet probably cause it's not worth mentioning. Looks like I'll be banking my points again until next time

That's been a hot deal since the beginning of the month I think... Throwing off the usual schedule.

Played Crackdown 3 last night for a tad over 2 hours and it's plenty fun. It's only a disappointment in the face of the hype-train, because MS definitely promised something bigger and more unique.

There's plenty to do, lots of things on the radar, locations to liberate, weapons to find. It reminds me a little more of Saints Row 4 with the ridiculous verticality and leaping up buildings, which isn't a bad thing, and the platforming is very solid. Climbing up floating platforms to reach an objective or find orbs is fun, and the agility/mobility takes off once you get the air dash.

It's not revolutionary or original, and I stick with what I said before, that it should have been a $40 game marketed as a remake of the original. If you remotely enjoyed the original, there's a good game here. It's not original or unique, but it's fun.

I think the biggest strike against it right now is RE2, KH3, Anthem, and Metro are all out within 4 weeks of Crackdown 3, and those are all probably more compelling games.

I think Crackdown just had a lot of stuff going against it in general

-We are DEEP into what is probably the driest spell for quality exclusives since the 360 Kinect dark era.

-Tons of good to amazing games in general have come out over the past few months.

-Even in it's genre, you have people coming off of both RDR2 and Spider-Man, which are both top of their class in the genre in polar opposite directions.

-The series that are from the same era have generally tried to evolve their gameplay, specifically Assassins Creed is coming to mind here.

-The one feature that really looked great that MS heavily advertised for a while is the building destruction, and now it's only in multiplayer?

-This is the one game that managed to survive the early generation purge that killed Fable Legends, Phantom Dust, and Scalebound.

-Microsoft believed in this project enough to allow it to change developers and stew for an extra couple years over the other games they canceled, really?

At the end of the day it is fine, but it feels like it could have come out shortly after CD2 and would have been more or less the same. The real problem continues to be the lack of other exclusives placing a magnifying glass on each game the comes out.

One other thought. How many of you are playing it without directly paying for it, through GamePass? Getting the game for free instead of $60 can have a big impact on opinion.

Perhaps I missed this, but Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy is on sale for $10 for Xbox One this week.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/naruto-shippuden-ultimate-ninja-storm-trilogy/bnvmw9kwtjh0?activetab=pivot:eek:verviewtab

It includes the first three of the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games in one package. I'm not into Naruto like that, but I'm considering it since it's a helluva deal for three full games, and developer CyberConnect2 has a good pedigree for quality games.
Damn you! I don't even like these kinds of games or anime or anything like that but the CAG in me can't resist a good price point.

I'm actually gonna buy the ultimate pack that includes 4 also for $17.50. I can handle spending roughly $4.50 per game on something I'll never play. I have a problem.

GP. I'm wondering though if Crackdown may be one of the reasons why MS decided to put their 1st party releases on GP at release.

Also remember M$, that seemed ages ago.

Agree 100%, if it came out in the first 12-18 months of the console's lifespan, it would have been received way better. The agility-based platforming reminds me a little of Sunset Overdrive, which is a good thing. I still think the over-promising is what is hurting it the most, but if it had been a launch-window title, reviewers would have been much kinder to it.

And yes, open world games have definitely evolved, looking at GTA IV to GTA V, for example. CD3 is a perfect title for Game Pass, but it's not a $60 game, especially when looking at its open-world competition (all the games you named).

I'd guess their overall wafer thin exclusive lineup was a real factor on all MS games being on GP at launch, but probably not any one game.

I'm curious what the long term strategy will be. Right now they say that they're making plenty off of GP, and said Forza Horizon 4 sold better than the previous game even with all the GP players. I don't know if that would be the case when they have 13 studios putting out games and all of them being available on the service. I get the impression as long as Spencer is in charge the platform will probably continue, but it's easy to see it getting shut down eventually. With a lot of Spencer's comments on the matter it sounds like both strategies go hand in hand to make up part of a much longer term plan.

I hope it pays off but it is a bummer that this generation basically became a write-off. I'm not sure we're going to get a ton of games from those new studios during this generation if Xbox Two is coming next year.

There were three things that kept me from buying the ultimate pack.

1. I've only seen the Naruto anime a few times, but I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on including why there was a blond teenager living in ancient Japan. Most anime series confound me. I've never been able to get through an entire episode of Dragon Ball or One Piece.

2. I will probably backlog these games, and by the time that I finally get around to playing them, the fourth game will be cheaper than $7.50.

3. I also wanted to buy Heart & Slash and Vostok Inc, two indie games that will probably get more play time than any of the Naruto games.

Please let us know if the fourth game is worth it.

Reading some of the comments about CD3 on different reviews has it looking like fans of the game feel that the game sites are being overly harsh while Sony fanbois are ripping on anything Xbox. There are a fair amount of people tho that do believe it could have been better (like I do) but it is not the travesty it's being made out to be. Had it dropped at $40 as well as Game Pass, no brainier. $60 is a bit much

Giant Bomb seemed to have a pretty reasonable review of CD3. If you have Gamepass, give it a try. If you are doing the $1 a month for a trial maybe think about it. Don't buy it at $60.

Netflix spends plenty of money making their own movies and TV shows, along with licensing other 3rd party content, and they seem to be making tons of money. At this point, I think MS is most concerned with platform/brand engagement, and Game Pass is a source of consistent revenue.

People checking social media to find out what the new games are is good business. Plus, people like me who will pay to subscribe (albeit at a discounted rate) but don't spend $60 on new titles are giving them money they otherwise wouldn't get.

It would be a terrible decision to go back on all 1st party titles launching on Game Pass, I'm not sure the service could recovery in terms of good will. If the next generation of Xbox is backwards compatible with everything that runs on Xbox One, Game Pass will be an incredible platform gateway.

The fourth game is worth it, coming from someone that bought the 4th game before the other 3 came to the One. I absolutely recommend playing them in order, especially for someone new to the series, but the 4th one has some great combat for a Bamco/CC2 game, plus you get all the story of 4, wrapping up Naruto's story, plus the Boruto DLC, dealing with his son, in addition to a few other extras like costumes and secondary stories. If you are already planning on getting the trilogy, I would definitely recommend the legacy edition, even if you do backlog the whole thing.

Put me on the list of people that like Crackdown 3. I only played a tiny bit of the other crackdown games and for what it is it’s pretty fun. I have kingdom hearts and resident still untouched day one purchases. I don’t play as much but continue to buy and when I do play it’s on the switch just cuz it’s more convenient and faster on my schedule especially with a 7 month old around.

With that being said yes it reminds me of agents and saints row and a little bit of sunset overdrive which I kinda want to play now. I’m about to head out and play some Pokémon go community day and actually all I want to do is play more crackdown. It’s simple, fun, and easy to pick up and play without over thinking anything. Highly recommend to anyone!

Just checked, and installing Crackdown 3 through Gamepass does not count towards a purchase, and doesn't give you the 6000 points on the punchcard. So for those with Gamepass, the achievement punchcard is the only one available.
