Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Hollow Knight/ Shovel Knight. Which one is the good one?
They’re both great games. Shovel Knight is level based and a bit more forgiving with check points. Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with a bit of a Souls like system that you need to get back to where you were when you die to reclaim what you earned.

Hollow Knight is more my kind of game. Love the atmosphere and exploration.

But Shovel Knight is good especially if you like NES era platformers.

Both are the good one. It's really a matter of taste

Shovel Knight is essentially three games in one, with two more being added later this year as the final updates funded with the Kickstarter. They are basically NES/SNES style platformers in the vein of Megaman and Ducktales, with plenty of modern touches. On Xbox, we received the exclusive Battletoads content.

Hollow Knight is only one game, but long for it's genre. A 30 to 40 hour Metroidvania that also had a ton of free updates due to it's crowdfunding. It's definitely the harder of the two options, and isn't really retro-styled. The final planned update has been spun-off and is going to be a completely separate game coming out... eventually. The dev team for these games are only 3 people.

anyone else getting a bunch of spam messages lately?? ive gotten like 5 in the past few days...i wish microsoft would fix this or at least give me something for having to put up with this its getting ridiculous
At least they talk to you...they just add me and do nothing, but yes. 3-4 fake accounts since Sunday. You hit them with the Block and they keep coming back.

Oh yeah, its totally blatant but it is also good for me since my kid really likes pops now(no idea why) and if I wanted to buy him one on a semi-regular basis, getting it half off is much more palatable to me than paying full price. I dont know why I'm willing to drop 5 but not 10 but here we are.
This just in: Gamestop raises Pop! figures by $5.

excatly i block and report all of them and later or the next day i get more.....i dont even know how they get my gamertag ive been playing the same few games lately

same gamertag picture they use also...

Funny my son was being so generous in letting me play his Switch and there honestly isn’t much on it I want to play. Most of what he has I have on my Wii U (Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, BotW...).

Probably play Tetris 99 then back to my X1X it is.

Isn't Halo Reach coming to MCC? If so, is there still any reason to buy Reach digital? Any reason to buy Halo 3 digital if I own MCC?

BC haul so far is Midway Arcade Originals, OF Dragon Rising, Port Royale 3, Shred Nebula.

Same except no son, I had a switch for a year then sold it I enjoy my Xbox one x way more. Plus gamepass.

Am looking to get a 3ds as I feel it’s better quality than the switch with tons of great games

Does anyone have a Halo 3 ODST game code to trade? I just got gamepass and thought it included ODST but it says I have to pay $4.49 to play it. I'd rather not do that and I want to play Halo 4 but have read and been told I need to play ODST first. I am sure I can find the disc version for cheaper so will just go that route if I have to.

Not really a ton of pluses for the 360 version in broad strokes, but there are some quirks here and there, and scenarios that make sense.

  • Ability to play with 360 players online or through LAN. Handy if you have friends who haven't upgraded yet for whatever reason.
  • 360 era level and ranking systems (Getting to 50 on Halo 3, or seeing your hard earned EXP based level in Reach)
  • Full armor customization for Halo 3, instead of the body/helmet-only options in MCC. Supposedly Reach will have the original customization still when it is added.
  • Extra Gamerscore if you play both versions.
  • Access to what I assume are MANY great custom maps and gametypes that were never imported or remade in MCC.
  • Access to the original 360 era playlists. While this isn't that big of a deal for Halo 3 now that we have the sorting system in MCC this could be very useful for Reach. More details on this in the spoiler.
With Reach, after Bungie handed the live game over to 343, the new studio rebalanced the game based on "data collection". This reduced the amount of weapon bloom, nerfed the armor ability Armor Lock pretty hard, made it so melee attacks could kill someone with low shields rather than taking an extra hit, and a few other things. They also borked some stuff, like the shield changes somehow messed up the med kit pick ups, which glitched out and didn't actually heal you anymore even though the HUD showed they did. All this stuff was collectively designed to make the game both more noob friendly, and change some mechanics to be more in line with Halo 2 and 3. Overall, these changes were controversial at best and eventually they relented to the complaints and made two separate playlist batches. The original Bungie balance modes for normal and the 343 balance for "Super Slayer", which remain up to this day. Since you can see player counts for the playlists in Reach, it's easy to see that the 343 balancing did not stand up to the test of time, since everything but Big Team Battle is so un-populated they have generally been un-playable for years now.

So why did I go into detail about all that stuff in the spoiler? We don't currently know how Reach's playlists will be handled in MCC yet. The new game doesn't have the same playlist bucket structure for anything and basically just sorts by Game and Team Size aside from ranked modes. It's possible MCC Reach will only have one balancing type or the other, and if it's 343's Super Slayer, I know I will be keeping the 360 version installed, as I never liked the Title Update changes. I do think both should be represented in game since that's how the game was, and since they made these balance changes through gametype tweaks rather than hard patches like Halo 3, it should be easy enough to import the same functionality, but if only one version is in matchmaking it should be the one that stood the test of time.

Beyond all that stuff, ODST is the only game that is missing content in MCC, since its version of Firefight wasn't brought over. If anyone is concerned about missing out on something that is the one with a more straight forward reason. While mechanically I still think this is was by far the best version of Firefight (and a precursor to Destiny's Raids), technologically it is rough. No matchmaking, and if someone has a slow connection it sours the experience for everyone.

I would not say you need to play ODST before Halo 4. It's a side story that takes place between 2 and 3. One of the staring characters returns in Halo 5, so that would be the one you'd probably want to play it before.

I imagine there aren't a lot of codes floating around for it since it was given away like 4 years ago now. A 360 disc is probably pretty cheap but I don't think it'd be all that much less. Unless you're playing Firefight the MCC version is probably worth the extra dollar or two for the higher resolution and framerate, and integration into MCC's playlists and the like.

Holy crap, if you ordered one of those 4 TB hard drives from Amazon after they went out of stock, they cancelled the orders saying it was a price mistake and now gave us a $20 credit due to it. Nice deal. :)

Sadly...no.
Well, I’d say you are in the minority on that one...personally love the game. I’d say it’s a must have for Metroidvania fans.

Also one of the best reviewed in the genre in years. But we all have our right to an opinion.

I’m curious what didn’t you like about it?

The art was cool. That was about it. I'm not a major fan of Metroidvania games, so it just didn't grab me. Why people seem to think that everyone has to like a game just because it's popular or reviewed well is beyond me.

And the funny thing is that I bought it twice. The first time, I bought it on Steam, but my PC didn't meet the minimum specs to run it, so I refunded it there. Then, I bought it on Xbox One...and wished that I had spent the money on something else. But what's done is done.

What's CAGs feelings on SOMA for $12?  It's always looked interesting, but the $30 price tag kept me away and sales haven't been cheap enough. I haven't bought a game in awhile either so it might be a bit of an impulse buy to scratch an itch.

Those who have bought it on previous sales or (hopefully not) full price: Was it worth it then? Do you wish you waited/held off?

I don't think people HAVE to like a game because it's reviewed well, but it definitely seems to make those who dislike them to be outliers.

I can see what you're saying on Hollow Knight, though. I like it, but it's fairly unforgiving. And if you don't dig that type of game in general, yeah ...

No one says you have to like it. Just was curious to know why you didn’t. I hate survival games with hunger and crafting and all that. So even though Don’t Starve is a popular game, I bought it to give it a shot anyway and hated it (even if it is a more “casual” survival game).

I grabbed Castle Crashers Remastered from this week's sale and played some 4-player couch co-op tonight. It's not amazing by any means but it seems like a fun pick-up-and-play game that still offers a little depth.

The BC sale has a lot of tempting games, but I know I've seen most of them on sale at one point or another over the past year, and sometimes at lower prices. Maybe if I peruse the list a few more times I'll decide I want to buy something. Or maybe I'll let my backlog stand pat.

I know I probably made the wrong choice, but I picked up Gucamelee 2 because I loved the first one so much. I'm holding off on Hollow Knight because I'm afraid of the difficulty. I don't play Dark Souls for a reason lol

Hollow Knight is an amazing game. I love it. I don't know why people compare it to Dark Souls. The difficulty is better compared to NES games that require finding enemies' patterns to beat them.

Would someone with gamepass be able to tell me what the discount for purchasing the first Banner Saga game with game pass is? Debating on using my month of gamepass code to purchase it

Probably because everyone compares everything to Dark Souls. Just last night I heard someone comparing The Witness to Dark Souls.

I guess I better try this Dark Souls game one of these days and see what all of the fuss is about.

It says $19.99 for me. The whole Banner Saga Trilogy is $14.99 pre-owned at GameStop (less if you are a pro member,) if you want physical.

Think the reason people compare Hollow Knight to Dark Souls is not only the difficulty but it has the Souls mechanic where when you die, you need to get back to where you died if you want to reclaim what you earned.

Don't Starve took time to grow on me, but I actually like that game now. Playing it on Android was the thing that hooked me.

And in reference to Hollow Knight, it's just strange to me that there was such an immediate backlash from that small group of CAGs when I was just being honest. Games are games. You don't like one, you play a different one. Or don't. No big whoop.

Wasn’t it just two people? Myself and one other? And like I said I was just interested in why you didn’t like it. Wouldn’t say I was criticizing you for having that opinion. Just stating my opinion as well.

Like I said there’s plenty of games that others love that I don’t. Probably wouldn’t say a game sucked in those cases knowing it was well made, etc. Just would say it wasn’t for me.

I tried Dauntless (I don't know why, because I have Monster Hunter World and don't even play that, so not sure why I thought the dollar store version would appeal to me).

I've never seen a more 2019 game in my life. Besides the model of being F2P with dollar signs around every corner, this game's character creation tool is very... gender neutral. I'll just say that as to not offend someone. Anyone who's seen it probably knows what I'm talking about and can agree.

I spent about an hour playing it. It's pretty rough and I probably won't go back to it. Though it did make me want to give MHW another shot.

I watched the trailer in the Xbox Store, insta cringe. I couldn't tell if they wanted to be Fortnite, Call of Duty Mobile, Monster Hunter Lite or if it was a secret EA project.

Reading the reviews of the add-ons is sad. Almost everyone spends money for the virtual nuggets to either not arrive or be severely delayed. Yikes

If I add the Minecraft Story Mode episodes to my download history but don’t actually download them, I can still access them if they’re delisted right?

Sucked was my opinion. Sucked is still my opinion. But none of us are on the developer's or publisher's payroll. So let's just say everyone is entitled to their opinion and move on. Thx.

I didn't like it because I suck at platformers. Heard too many good things about it not to try it. If I didn't suck at platformers I would probably LOVE this game. Liked what I played but I REALLY suck at this type of game. No way would I ever finish it.

I think I have finished 1 platformer and almost finished another since 2008 or so when I got back into gaming.

I finished New Super Mario Bros 2 on 2DS.

Got almost to end of Rayman Legends. Gave up when
when the screen goes blank mostly close to the final boss.

If I didn't suck at platformers I think I would have really enjoyed Shovel Knight. Don't even regret buying it digitally.

Exactly what I said earlier. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and all I’ve done is state mine.

Never called yours invalid. In fact gave you an example where I feel the same way as you about another game so if anything I was defending you.

OT but anyone use sprint cell service? I just found out they have a special going on with unlimited talk, text & data for $25 a month and thinking of switching over.

I believe it's only if you purchase four lines. I have Metro PCS and also pay $25 a month but I don't get unlimited data. It's normally 30 per line but I'm on a family plan with my sister which gives you a $5 discount. I've had no issues with Metro PCS and my phone is an LG v30. I have a friend that has Sprint and he doesn't really have any problems with it so I would recommend it if you have three other people that will join the plan with you.

Of course, check the coverage map for your area and areas you will be potentially traveling to before you decide.
