Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

In the end the only ones that really hurt are:

The Beatles: Rock Band
Darkstalkers Resurrection
Eternal Sonata
Fatal Frame
Guitar Hero (only because I have over 1,000 songs that can't import into the Xbox One Version, thankfully RockBand did)
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (I may finally buy one of the new ones)
Mortal Kombat Arcade (1-3)
Rallisport Challenge 2
Silent Hill 4
TMNT 1989 and TMNT Turtles in Time
Vigilante 8 Arcade
X-men Arcade
As much as I would have loved Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero, hell even DJ Hero, they were never going to go BC. It was stated from the beginning that anything using a peripheral would not go BC.

It's false advertising really since once you stop paying for Gold, you can't access those games. The real free games are the 360 and Xbox games.
That's not true. Unless they've changed it very, very recently, you've always been able to re-download any GWG you "purchased" even without gold.

Hahaha, Sales are down and you have swooped in to save them with a new slogan: "Gamestop--It's better than a freaking shootout."

or maybe "Gamestop--we'll give you pennies on the dollar, but it's better than a bullet in the head."
LMAO..."Gamestop: Don't let someone else kill you. We'll make you want to kill yourself."

Not sure why you’re making jokes about something like that.
Gallows humor is a thing. People die everyday and society, as a whole, has grown largely numb to it for a variety of reasons. A 16-year-old dying is unfortunate but he could have taken certain precautions to avoid this situation and it was just unfortunate that neither him nor his father had the foresight to be safer about dealing with strangers in sketchy areas. It sucks to hear about but people move on and try to make light of the issue, such as comparing the situation to shopping at Gamestop/LameShop.

As somebody that used to work at Gamestop back when I lived in the Greater Chicago area, it's basically hell on earth. Some might say a bullet to the head is almost preferable to working there...almost. Well, at least I don't have to worry about that working at my current job in a quiet state like West Virginia. I get up in the morning, type some crap about relationship woes and why people need to buy our shitty gift baskets and then I spend the rest of the day gaming in the nude. Maybe if the kid had a summer job, he wouldn't have had to worry about affording an iPhone. Meh, so it goes...

2 New Quests have been added:

ID@Xbox - 2 achievements for 200 pts (18 days left)

Achievement Hunter - 10 achievements for 1000 pts (11 days left)

- Metro Exodus

- Astroneer

- Hollow Knight

- Borderlands: the Handsome Collection

- Guacamelee 2

- Everspace

- Shenmue 1 & 2

- Batman Arkham Knight

- Moonlighter

-The Turing Test
So far 1 achievement from Everspace, from dying, not playing that again. Trying Astroneer but I am stuck in the tutorial lol. I have made the small printer and it wants me to examine the hologram on the printer but nothing happens. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

This is my first time ever paying for Gold so I have to start checking out everything that's included. I of course did this to get the Ultimate deal but it will also be nice to get REAL free 360 and Xbox games. I don't consider the games with gold games as free even though they are advertised as free. Freeze time is correct, to be able to play X1 GwG you need to have an active Gold membership. You might be able to re-dl the game but you won't be able to play it without Gold.

GwG for the 360 started a year before they added GwG for the X1. It was to compete with the Sony's PS+ games. Keep in mind, X1 came out 7 months before they started offering X1 GwG and it wouldn't have made sense to give those games free to keep like the 360.

From the start, Xbox One Games With Gold has required keeping an active subscription to play. If you experienced otherwise, it could only be due to a glitch.

Destiny 2.  I know the game will be F2P in September, but will that include all of the expansions released up to that point?  And I know that people have said everything you earn from previous play time become irrelevant when a new expansion drops, but what if I'm only playing single player?  Is each expansion equivalent to new campaign missions?

Nope it doesn't include all the expansions. You get everything up to Forsaken. Which means you need to buy Forsaken and the extra annual pass before the new expansion comes out.

Have over 20 gamepass games popped up in the "ready to install" list for games you own a few days ago for anyone else? I wish they'd move back to where they should be.

If you want the Forsaken campaign, yes you need to buy it. However you don't have to, you can just play the older stuff or skip right to the new.

Anyone know of a website for forum post that has a list of games that have had their servers taken down and whether they still function in some way (bots, ect)? I threw in Evolve a few weeks ago knowing the community was probably pretty dead only find out that the servers were gone. No big loss but it was still playable somewhat at least with the bots in the tutorial.

Kind of weird to me that these old games with their servers taken down couldn't just revert back to the old OG Xbox way of doing XBL with one player acting as the host. Sure figuring out how to migrate the host for when they inevitably leave the game would take work but at least people wouldn't have totally dead/unplayable games on their shelf. ;)

Yep kinda annoying for some reason in the overview of the store it says I own them, but when you actually click on them they still have an option to buy and own them...it seems like a Gamepass hiccup...I mean I could hide them from the ready to install list...

There may be others, but trueachievements.com is where I go. It is pretty up to date and has flags letting you know the server/online component is dead if there is online-only achievements. Not sure if you can organize it into a dead server list. I usually check it before buying/playing older games to make sure what I want to play still works.

Edit: They will also send you notifications and dates of upcoming server closures on games you've played or marked in your collection.

I went to hide the games I own from the gamepass ready to install list when I first saw it a while ago. Only problem is I noticed it hides games from both the gamepass ready to install list and the games you own ready to install list which is frustrating. Wish it just didn't show games you already own under gamepass.

As much as I would have loved Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero, hell even DJ Hero, they were never going to go BC. It was stated from the beginning that anything using a peripheral would not go BC.
Technically Rock Band peripherals ARE supported via adapter (using mine for Rock Band 4), but the licensing kills it for Beatles Rock Band. Too bad, it’s pretty great. One of the reasons I keep my 360.

For everyone who plays Rocket League, here's a limited time only in-game redemption code that will unlock a Never Say Die Limited Decal from the movie The Goonies.

TRUFFLESHUFFLE

And here are some other limited time codes that unlock decals, wheels, and nitros that still work as of today.

SHAZAM

POPCORN
RLBIRTHDAY

RLNITRO

I used these on the PS4, Xbox One, and Steam versions of the game.

Still agitated that BC is finished at this moment and I didn't get fusion frenzy 2. It's a fully Microsoft game so I really don't understand why that didn't happen. Need more party games on the One and I still to this day load up the OG fusion frenzy for great fun.

2 New Quests have been added:

ID@Xbox - 2 achievements for 200 pts (18 days left)

Achievement Hunter - 10 achievements for 1000 pts (11 days left)

- Metro Exodus

- Astroneer

- Hollow Knight

- Borderlands: the Handsome Collection

- Guacamelee 2

- Everspace

- Shenmue 1 & 2

- Batman Arkham Knight

- Moonlighter

-The Turing Test
Got 2 achievements in Rocket League for the first Quest and 10 Achievements in Shenmue for the second quest...easy points =D

Anyone having trouble getting Too Human to download from the marketplace? I keep getting the "Sorry... that request can't be completed right now" generic error.
Nope, downloaded it just fine several days ago. Bought it through the website before hand, so it was in my ready to install list.

I'm really tempted on Division 2. Girlfriend put the buy price for Ultimate at $100, and it's $71.99 right now. Problem is, I worry we won't go back to the original if I buy now. We have the Gold Edition, and while we did reach end game, we never touched the DLC. I really want to get through the PvE content before starting 2. I just wonder if it will be that cheap again anytime soon.

Dust off your Xbox 360. It's what you're gonna have to do to play all those games Microsoft missed. (Yes, I'm unhappy about it too.)

I'm still unclear on how the Telltale episode de-listings are supposed to work on Xbox One.  I own the season pass discs for Minecraft: Story Mode Season One and The Walking Dead: The New Frontier and the Back To the Future: The Game disc.  I downloaded all of the episodes for each today.  Was this a good idea, and should I keep these on my hard drive going forward?  Or will they always be available since I own the discs?  They don't take up that much space, but I might want to use the space for something else in the future.  I've seen so many conflicting responses when I Google search, so if someone can provide a good answer, it will be much appreciated.

So I preordered Samurai Showdown the day it hit the store for preorder... I used a combination of MS funny money and a little off my debit card. I received the order confirmation e-mail from Microsoft and it showed up in my ready to install list.

For some reason this morning I get another order confirmation e-mail from Microsoft and a full charge to my debit card for $59.99 …

Has anyone ever seen this before? What is going on here?

The Walking Dead games are safe because Skybound got the rights back and are keeping the games published. Everything else is up in the air as it all goes back to the respective franchise holders. It would be up to Microsoft to republish Minecraft and Universal (I guess?) to republish BTTF. If you want to play them, you need to keep them downloaded but you should be OK with the TWD.

Thanks for the response. I might delete The Walking Dead anyway since I've never seen the show or read the comic book. Truthfully, these games aren't really my types of games. But Back To the Future is one of my favorite movie series of all time, and I just downloaded Minecraft recently, so I'll be glad to see what the story is supposed to be behind that one.

Got rid of it when I finished all the Forzas. I'll just wait and see what happens when Scarlett comes out. Hopefully they come out guns blazing at launch and have a slew of the titles we all wanted newly optimized for the Scarlett

You have the original Gold or 2? Im hoping the original. The Gold for 2 is 60, that's pretty good for being only 3 months past launch. Your patience is admirable wanting to stick with the original, but I say jump. Big gameplay difference.

Yes, and the 360 disc version of Rock Band 3 is double-awesome since you can use customs. In fact, you can even get customs from Beatles Rock Band to integrate into your main RB3 songlist.

There's a reputable seller in the trade forums selling it for $50 right now. Go get it :)

So if anyone's looking for good games for Game Pass quests, I recommend The Turing Test for Achievement Hunter
This was going to be my next game to try for the 10 achievements. Tried Astroneer but stuck in the tutorial, looks bugged or something.

The tutorial in Astroneer is a pain and takes forever. I had to give up on that achievement because it took too long. The first couple achievements in guacomelee 2 take maybe 20-30 minutes. First couple bosses and when you learn to dodge do 10 dodges for another achievement.

Original. I played the Beta and I actually preferred the original gameplay to 2 honestly. Maybe it's the difference between end game gear in the original and beginner gear in the beta for 2 though. Those cool downs were rough. I liked my original turret that never had a cool down by the time I destroyed it.

Somehow I doubt this seller takes MS funny money.

My lone purchase from the E3 sale was Forza Motorsport 6.
I'm still tempted about grabbing this but also am confident it will be a GwG in a few months. I grabbed the VIP pass when it was on sale awhile back, just debating how important the dlc and car pass is to me.

The only game I got from the E3 sale was NBA 2K19. I'm always reluctant to complain about sales, but I gotta say this one really lacked any OMG INSTABUY gems.

Let's hope the summer sale is a banger!

Edit: Then again, I'd say deal on UGP made up for the lack of spectacular discounts.

From what I can tell, the answer to your question depends on the game. Some games have disc versions with all the content on them, while others will become completely unavailable once they are de-listed. Here is a community created guide from TA to help with this:

Are you outside of the US? I am, and I had the same problem with Too Human until I used a VPN.
Yea, this was my problem. Shoulda tried that first, duh... Thanks!

I got my 10 in Guacamelee 2. Took about ... 2.5-3 hours? Not super super quick, but it's actually a fun game, so that helps.
