Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

The board game is collaborative, so you are working with other players to prevent the end of the world and you have access to each other's resources so couch co-op wouldn't be bad at all.

There are lots of such board games out there and I would love to see more of them go digital like this.

Man... my dog passed this morning.  I could see it coming for a few weeks now, but nothing could have prepared me for the circumstances that it happened under.  Trying to hold it together for my wife who is in deep mourning, but it's hard.  My entire life, dogs were nothing but pets that came and went.  But Leo was family.  He slept with me, ate with me, licked my head for hours at a time if I would let him.  Part of me wants to play some games to take my mind off of it... part of me just wants to sit and think about him.  Anything help you all out in this situation?

Losing a pet family member is REALLY HARD. Our household has always had multiple dogs and it doesn't get easier. However, the love they give far outweighs the pains of losing them. It will take time, but the pain and grief will be replaced by fond memories and the occasional sob session. If you believe in this kind of thing, Google "Rainbow Bridge."

I'm sorry for your loss, and may you always have a dog-filled life.

This is one post that hits me in the feels.

I'm sorry for your loss. For many of us our pets are literally part of the family and when something happens it's devastating. It's not easy for your wife and it will not be easy for you. I would do things to take your mind off of it but undoubtedly things will come up that remind you of the pet.

Just try to be there for one another. And honestly it might be hard to say but give it a little bit of time and go get another one. Not meant to be a replacement but nothing heals like having another baby animal to love.

Damn. Sorry for your loss.

Aren’t you just a little ray of sunshine?

The podcasts I listen to have been raving about Slay the Spire for a while, so I’m psyched to try it out on Xbox since I don’t really game on PC. Pandemic is something I’ve always wanted to try IRL but never have, so looking forward to that one as well.
I am a gem.

Destiny 2 folks if you own everything, which version of Shadowkeep do you get? The $39.99 one right?

Sorry for your loss. It's hard losing a family member. Just stay with your wife and do the household chores, just to get you guys NOT thinking about it, I guess. You guys have to support each other.

So sorry for your loss. We are a huge dog loving family with three currently and know it is devastating to lose one. There’s something different about losing a pet. Just a warm fuzzy feeling you get from a pet unconditionally that is hard to replicate.

Sending you good thoughts..

Analysis of the Doom re-release. Didn't have time to watch it yet but he said there are serious issues with two of them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYTomYMAzYE&feature=youtu.be

Managed to watch through this now.

TL;DW:

Doom 1 and 2

  • Botched audio, missing variability that the PC version of the games had on sound effect, which is a legacy issue from the 360 version
  • Botched music. Both games' music strangely run their music at like 80% speed, though don't change the pitch at least.
  • Botched graphics. The aspect ratio they decided to lock the game at is wider than it should be, and not evenly scaled from the ratio it should be running at so some lines of pixels are double. On 360 you could at least tweak the zoom setting but this option is missing here.
  • Still requires the initial log in to Bethesda.net to function at all. This login causes issues on Switch if you use the Sleep Mode at all.
  • Still locked at 35 FPS despite the effort of the strange engine port they did. Not the biggest deal but again this is fixed in the many homebrew ports that have been created since it went open source. As an aside, I didn't realize it was initially designed to run at 70 FPS because of those old CRT monitors ran at that speed. It was only locked to 35 in the past because TVs didn't typically go above 60, and halving the framerate was the easiest fix.
Doom 3

  • Rock solid 60 FPS on both Xbox One X and standard Xbox One.
  • Native 4K on X, 1080p on standard Xbox one
  • Console versions include PC-style graphics options for an FOV slider and the option to turn on dynamic shadows, without loss of performance on Xbox.
  • Bethesda.net login is available but NOT required. It can be backed out of and played offline even on first boot.
I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up Doom 3 now. Probably will forever pass on the "updated" Doom 1 and 2 unless they fix all the issues. Might grab them on Switch if they at least fix the music and Bethesda login.

Cliff notes:

Doom 1 and 2: Issues with scaling to 1080p and 16x9 aspect ratio, frame rate issues since it's still using the 35hz of the original, Lighting is all washed out and too bright, music is farked up plays at a slower rate than the original midi which you can really hear the difference side by side. Sound effects also farked up, played back at a way higher pitch than the original. Seems to be all consoles all versions, so yeah pretty bad.

Doom 3: X and PS4 Pro 4k at 60hz with no dropped frames after hours of play time. Switch 1080p docked/720p portable has frame rate issues that are pretty bad if you adjust the FOV and turn on Flashlight shadows, drops into the mid 40's. Stays at 60fps most of the time without, but not zero dropped frames like X or Pro. So pretty good.

I am a gem.

Destiny 2 folks if you own everything, which version of Shadowkeep do you get? The $39.99 one right?
I see two different versions to pre-order:

  • $34.99 - Just Shadowkeep
  • $59.99 - Shadowkeep + a second Annual Pass to keep you in Destiny up to Season 11
Because I'm a no-lifer, my choice is easy. :)

I updated my post with longer cliff notes, oh well.

What's weird to me is that the games aren't scaled fully to 16x9, they don't hit the left and right edges of the screen. I wonder why they only went most of the way if they were alright with stretching the art. This is another issue that has been solved for the most part on the various PC source ports, though admittedly most of those change the HUD a bit.

I just finished it as well. I've been in a metroidvania mood lately and played Timespinner, Bloodstained and Guacamelee 2 all back to back. Timespinner was probably my least favorite of the three (Bloodstained being my favorite) but it was still a very fun game that I definitely recommend.

Downwell is a pretty nice surprise. It's a very simple but extremely addicting rouge like. I put quite a bit of time into it when it first released.
Dandara is a fantastic metroidvania. Sadly it is leaving game pass today.

The leaving soon portion of the app is always a good place to start, that or the internet. They seem pretty good on giving a bit of a headsup when they can.

Is there a reason everyone is buying Doom 3 right now as opposed to it being on sale? I mean if you plan to play it now more power to you, but we all know the curse of the backlog. Just curious!

I’m surprised how many Doom 3 fans are on this board. I remember buying it on PC back when it came out and thinking it was a pretty bad game. The new Doom (2016) seems good but I never liked Doom 3, it seemed like a horror game and not a shooter to me.

Agreed, I thought it looked great but I quickly tired of the hidden monster closets. Glad some people like it. Doom 2016 is fantastic though.

I can easily understand the impulse buy thoughts. I recently picked up a disc copy of doom 3 bfg, if I hadn't... Who knows I may have bought this newer version of doom 3??? My other fear was some low introductory $10 price tag and then the price going up to $20 in a few weeks. Looks like I don't have to worry, wait for a sale and debate doom 3 bfg vs doom 3 x1x. In other news, I need to look up some videos of slay the spire after reading all the praise for it in this thread.

Man... my dog passed this morning.
So sorry for your loss. My dog is definitely a part of my family. My parents lost theirs a few years back and it took a while to get through it. You’ll be ok, and I agree with the suggestion to get another dog, when it’s time.

Oh the more expensive is for future annual pass? I thought it was just a super complete past version with shadowkeep.
AFAIK they’re not going to do any “Complete” edition for Shadowkeep because so much is going to be included in the F2P version that launches at the same time. They’ve said that New Light (the F2P version) will include all of Year 1, and then you can buy Forsaken, Shadowkeep, and the respective Season Pass content piecemeal if you so choose.

I remember it helped heat my room in the winter when i ran that game. I think the Doom movie was better at the time though lol

Had 18 titles with updates tonight, 16 of them BC games.  The new GwG Torchlight, with the other 15 all beginning with A, including the Keflings games which ignore the "A" in the game list sort.  Have 7 other "A" BC games that didn't have updates, with some alphabetically before others that updates.  They all seem to be 300-400 MB in size, so possibly an update to the 360 system software they run.  Wonder if there's going to be a mass roll out over the next week or two.

Oddly, the Gears 5 Tech Test was 1 of the 2 XB1 titles with an update.

Still working my way through AC:Unity. Seems like this thing is taking forever and my summer break is quickly diminishing. I'll have students on the 14th so I need to get this thing finished.

I picked up Chasm because it looked really cool and I love metroidvanias. I want Timespinners and Bloodstained really badly but can wait for a sale since I have a ton of "must plays" heading up the backlog.

Also, I haven't seen it mentioned, but I noticed the whole Deponia series is in the store now. The better part of my teenage years were filled with Sierra and LucasArts point-and-click adventure games, so I'm very intrigued. Can't wait for a sale!

Dang, had not heard of Slay the Spire, but apparently it's universally acclaimed. 15k reviews on Steam and it's got a 10/10 user score....wow.

EDIT - just saw Pandemic. The GF loves board games and is losing her shit right now when I told her there's an Xbox version.
I hadn't heard of Slay the Spire either, but thanks to this thread I will definitely be playing it, This game is right up my alley.

Thanks CAG!

I'm so sorry, brother. Today we are having someone come to our house to put our 14 year old yellow lab down. We lost a chocolate lab in December 2017. That day was the worst day of my life and I know today won't be any better.

@Biggquis I just paid a lot of money last month to put the family cat down. He lived with my parents but he was mine. It is sometimes hard to fathom how much we can bond with animals, sorry you had to say goodbye.

Digital Foundry has its analysis up for the new Doom ports:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYTomYMAzYE

The first two games sound like sloppy ports, since a game like OG Doom should not be difficult to emulate accurately.

Doom 3 on X1X or PS4 Pro sound like definitive versions.

Didn't see anyone post it so just in case anyone wants to clear up a little space they fixed the BC Doom games not showing up. Looked at my ready to install list last night and they were back.

I know the feeling. My dog of 11 years passed away 2 weeks ago. Still wake up in the morning looking for her so I can take her outside. It hard. She was my first kid.

are those Deponia games like the old school broken sword games?

Deluxe will have 4 season passes and some exclusive in-game items. The base Shadowkeep will only have one season pass. Considering each season is supposed to be ~$10, the Deluxe saves you a little money if you plan on keeping up with Destiny.

None of the Forsaken content is included in either bundle.

Thanks. I thought the free passes equates to the 4 past ones. That’s helpful. So the new free to play model will have individualized passes. This is getting a little weird. We’ll ever seen the eververse debuted and they sold shit only for real money, it was a matter of time. I think I’m in for shadow keep but I’m not 100%. Feel like the bundle could dump more closer to to holidays but maybe not with ftp model.
