Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I also played it recently and it made me realize how poorly designed it is compared to the games of today. The game is artificially lengthened by something like 30-40% by making you go through the same sections over and over and I'm not sure if this was the Anniversary edition or what but the checkpoints are just ridiculously bad. Sometimes I would die and be back 10 minutes before and then die again in the same spot and be back 2 minutes because it just didn't trigger the first time. I found myself just running past enemies frequently just trying to get to the next checkpoint toward the end because of how little ammo you find compared to the amount of enemies. Still looking forward to working though the rest of the collection before the new one comes out though.
I defy anyone to find a worst designed level in all of gaming than The Library level. And I'm not talking the CEA remaster, the original Xbox version.

Weird, I liked both. It is almost like different people can like different things? I guess that is enough to get this part of the internet all hating each other.
"But how do I impose my obviously superior tastes upon the world?"

In other interesting news. MS had this kind of offer before in the back end of the 360 days, what's really interesting here is if you go for the Xbox One X option, you get an "option" to upgrade to the Scarlet when it comes out.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2019/10/28/xbox-all-access/
Unlike the prior offer this one is below MSRP. Assuming full price on GP Ultimate for 2 years, you would get the X for $384 with no interest over the 24 month payment plan.

Not really an essential deal for most here especially if you've already maxed out your GP Ultimate sub.

But, if you were new to Xbox this would be an ideal way to dive in to GP and the platform. Especially with the 12 month upgrade to Scarlett.

Here are a few statements of note:

Xbox News said:
  • Here’s how it works in four easy steps:
  • In order to join the program, simply visit a participating retailer.
  • Select the console you would like to purchase with no upfront cost.^
  • Qualify with our financing partner (Citizens Bank in the U.S.; Klarna in the U.K.; Telstra in Australia). Once approved, complete your purchase with the retailer.
  • Once you’ve signed up and brought your console home, it’s time to power up and game on.
Even though the "^" above doesn't refer to any other section of the page, this is most assuredly opening a line of credit and paying monthly payments.

Xbox News said:
Players in the U.S. and U.K. who purchase an Xbox One console with Xbox All Access have the option to upgrade to Project Scarlett once it’s available Holiday 2020 and they’ve made 18 payments. Players in Australia can buyout their hardware at any time and upgrade to Project Scarlett once it’s available.
I'm not even sure why they mention "once it’s available Holiday 2020" since the earliest you would be able to qualify for the upgrade is July of 2021 (18 months of payments). I am VERY curious to see what the cost of upgrading to Project Scarlett (by trading in this console) would be though.

EDIT - Interesting. This link suggests you can upgrade in as little as 12 months if you choose the Xbox One X option. All the more reason to choose an Xbox One X for this program. It also lists other interesting footnotes.

Keep an eye out for a “mystery reward” from Best Buy. I didn’t get it, as usual, but some of you may have better luck.

The 12 month upgrade option is their holiday special, so you have to do it by the end of this year. So if you signed up the day the program launches (Nov. 18, I think), you could probably get Scarlett really close to launch.

The way they worded the upgrade talk made it sound like the trade would allow you to get out of the other 12 months of your X contract and then simply begin paying for the Scarlett in a new contract. Not enough details have been shared, but I don't think they'll discount the Scarlett with the X trade-in.

I actually had a lot of fun at that point because you finally get the shotgun with plenty of ammo but yeah, not well designed. Still better then having to cross another parallel bridge with the enemies from the previous one respawned and shooting at you again.

Oh it's for sure opening a line of credit, the actual Amazon page has a lot more details. The very last paragraph on this Amazon has a more detailed summary. When you trade in the Xbox One X you have to sign a new 24 month All Access contract to get the Scarlett after the 12 months of payments. Oddly there is no path to upgrade to the Scarlett from the Xbox One S even though it says console upgrade after 18 months, and if you upgrade from the Xbox One SADE it's a $20 fee. Again if you're already in the Xbox ecosystem it's probably not a big savings on anything, since they're going with the Xbox One X MSRP and Game Pass MSRP pricing.

Last year Black Friday digital deals started on November 15th and Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was 20% off or $47.99. I say this because I’m on the fence of picking up Modern Warfare but I’m still playing Borderlands 3 and just started Outer Worlds so I think I’ll pass on the 6,000 bing points (7.50ish if $5 cards are on sale for 4,000 pts) and hope for 20% off ($12.00 off instead of $7.50 in credits). Hope this info is useful to others.

Reading about that raid on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has me wanting to play a military shooter.

Mtn Dew:
20 oz bottles - 15 mins
16 oz aluminum bottles - 30 mins
16 oz cans - 15 mins
12 oz 12 packs - 60 mins
18 packs - 60 mins

3.125 oz Doritos - 15 mins
9.75 oz Doritos - 30 mins

The original halo definitely has glaring flaws in the level design. I think the reason people overlooked them was because the vehicle combat and split screen multiplayer was so unique at the time, even though shooters on the N64 had pioneered split screen death match. That, and the basic mechanics of the game control very well and are very satisfying. I remember someone from Bungie talking about getting the weapons and shooting right because you’re going to be repeating those actions thousands of times throughout the game and if they don’t feel good, nothing else matters. I think this philosophy made it into destiny and it’s one of the reasons people stuck with it.

I don’t know if the checkpoint problems are unique to the collection or the anniversary edition of the game but I definitely experienced them when I played through it.

I remember on Halo 4, I was working for a trucking company and we had a Mtn Dew vending machine and recycle bins. At the end of the night I would go through the recycling bin and take everyone’s caps. I had days of double xp. Where I work now most ppl are pretty healthy, not a lot of soda drinkers.

I’m prepping to hear about Diablo 2 remastered, Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon this weekend. I assume they will all be Free Hong Kong editions? Lay it on me Mike Ybarra! Hopefully him going to blizzard means Xbox gets some favoritism.

Yeah, a lot of the jank can be forgiven thanks to the "30 Seconds of Fun™" gameplay.

Considering that Darksiders Fury War and Death two-pack with the remastered versions of the first two games before the sale price ends.  Other than that I think that they're on GamePass, can anyone give me a reason not to pull the trigger for $7.99?

I was wondering the same thing. I guess the only reason would be to assume they won't be on Gamepass forever and $4 per game is very great

About that Halo 1 talk, Anniversary has the same level geometry entirely, it just runs an additional engine for the new graphics on top of the old stuff so it's the same aside from a few blunders where Saber Interactive messed up and they don't match up. With the new graphics they did add a bit more signposting in the visual design to The Library to try and make it a bit less confusing but it doesn't fix the recycled level design overall. Overall I think the enhancements mess up the flow of the visuals more than they help, since they basically just added a shitload of foliage or ground detail to the more jungle-y levels.

As for difficulty I only ever really thought Legendary was hard, as is generally the case for all the games except for Halo 5, which is piss easy because of the DBNO mechanics being compounded by always having a full squad of 4. The real difficulty comes from the high level of accuracy from groups of enemies, along with the insane amount of (regenerating!) health that the Elites have. A gold Elite essentially has TWELVE shields. Other than that all the weaker enemies aren't much of a threat because of just how strong the pistol is, not to mention the joke that Hunters are in Halo 1. In general, the flood are very easy to kite and deal with. The real threats that can be a wall are:

1. Sword Elites (compounded by the Active Camo)

2. the few Rocket Launcher carrying Flood, and to a lesser degree those with Shotguns.

3. chain explosions mid-fight from grenades laying around.

4. A couple areas with multiple Banshees.

One thing that does kind of suck is that doing well on Legendary essentially means you want to stick with a pistol at almost all times through the whole game, along with rotating out Plasma Pistols and Plasma Rifles to take down shields, but I think this really boils down to just how strong the pistol is along with a lack of other precision weapons beyond the rare Sniper Rifle. Having played Halo 1 a LOT, I do have to say the item placement is pretty good overall. If you explore a bit there is usually some kind of weapon cache for pretty much every major encounter in the game that gives you tools to make fights much more do-able.

Halo 2 is the one Halo game I'd call really hard. The Beam Rifle Jackals are out of control on Legendary and they are in a lot of areas.

That's what I thought as well. These days, you can't often get a good indie game for less than $5, and both of these games look really good! And it appears that the bundle is on sale for another three days although I will probably bite tonight after I see how bad the new sales look.

Breakpoint sounded like it bombed by Ubisoft standards. I could see it hitting $30-40 during the holiday sales, physical at least. Maybe not since they delayed all of their upcoming games.

So that would imply XBL sale 11/21 this year since Thanksgiving is later (11/28). The major BF ads probably wont be revealed until 11/13ish.

I am holding off on COD MW since I've read that a lot of hard crashes are occurring with it on X One X's. No idea how much of a problem it really is but it seems between Borderlands and COD the X1 is being pushed to the limits. I may go pc this year for CODMW once cheap codes are out there from GPU sales (it is a freebie code at most retailers now for Nvidia cards).

I really hope the next gen is 4K60FPS because 30FPS is almost unplayable to me now. the Outer Worlds on pc via GamePass has been excellent so far

Dayum. Looking at Mafia 3, Sonic, and Mummy Demastered. Really wish there would be a sale on credit

There's a post on the front page for me showing nokeys has $50 for $43. Was thinking about it until I saw the site. I've only ever used cdkeys for that stuff so don't know if it is worth it/can be trusted.

That was quick: Ghost Recon Breakpoint is 20% off Regular and 30% off Gold and Ultimate
Wonder if that's why only the DLC for Wildlands and not the actual game was on sale during the tom Clancy sale last week. I beat it but was thinking about picking it up to play the new missions that tie into breakpoint. Was thinking about getting breakpoint on sale but may wait to see if it hits 40% for gold on black friday/end of year sale.
