Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

After I graduated from college, I worked in a CPA office and did bookkeeping for a lady that owned an old school bowling alley. One month, I saw a bunch of $50 cash payments and called her to ask what they were. She had sold all of her arcade machines for $50 a piece - 4 topper Gauntlet, Ms. Pac Man... Everything... For $50 each. I almost cried.
fucking depressing.

I bought SotN for the holiday sale because I had the retro bug, and I like having everything on one platform. Forgot a few things that haven't aged well, though, like the very slow process of the game over screen to the start screen to loading your game when you die. You'd think for a port, they could have streamlined a "load last saved game?" option.

My family had an IBM PC-Jr and I played a ton of the original King's Quest, Lode Runner, some ancient roguelikes, and a few text adventures (Zyll, I think?). There was a Ghostbusters game, too, and my god was it awful. Now I kinda want to find some emulators and relive all those horrible games, which I'm sure have not aged well.

Dunno if you still live in Miami, but I absolutely love this place: http://www.arcadeodyssey.com

The owner is a collector who switches out games from time to time.
We have a place like that about 10 minutes away called the arcade.
Has a couple hundred arcade games and 50 or so pinball tables.
The best part is the pricing though. $10-15 all you can play all day. Come and go as you please. And there is a really good beer store next door with a great deli for when you get hungry.

Holy crap! I looked up some games I remember, did anyone else play this ultra-shitty Ghostbusters game from 1985? When I was little I thought upgrading the Ecto-1 was the coolest thing ever. Clearly, it wasn't:

Thanks for the link, the nostalgia on this site is outta control.

I did on my C64. I too have fond memories of the game, although it does look quite terrible now

My god, this is like a paradise for me. I don't live in Miami but I will most definitely check this place out next time I'm there.
You definitely should, it's perfect for an arcade fan.

This one still uses tokens, but prices are very fair. It is also a bit small, but definitely gives off the old school arcade feel. They are really fan friendly, they host tourneys, cosplay nights, outdoor gaming sessions, etc.

Did anyone mention the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game yet?   I use to play that and The Simpsons arcade game all the time.

There was a diner that my dad and I use to go to and they would have a Ms. Pacman game and another game that I played every single time I visited:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiBC1s4PhrI

I would usually get to Level 3 and lose, but I loved trying to get there in different ways.

Im not too hip on RTS games, but do you think Halo Wars 2 is worth $38?
My god yes.

I wish I could go the digital route, then I'd have the Xbox/PC version, but alas us farmer folks are shit outta luck, *moves hay stem in mouth, so I just got the retail copy for $47 with GCU. $38 for XB1/Wins10 is a deal.

Seriously though Halo Wars 2 is got an epic campaign set in-between the events of Halo 5 & Halo 6, crazy frantic multiplayer with the new Blitz Mode ala Hearthstone in RTS motion and not to mention Blur Studios is doing the cutscenes yet again. Yes, a hundred times yes!

As a kid I grew up with my parent's Atari 2600 and played games like Pac-Man, Combat, Pitfall E.T. (fuxk) and Enduro. I visited my Uncle's house where I was introduced to Dune II on his 286. My love for RTS grew from that and it's pretty much, along with Total Annihilation, StarCraft, Warcraft, and Company of Heroes where my love of Startegy games began and leveled up throughout my gaming life.

If you felt Halo Wars was too simple a RTS or too complicated to control with a controller, I think you'll be content when Halo Wars 2 comes out. From everything I've seen it looks like they've added some depth and it's a Play Anywhere title so if you have a PC that can run it there you go.

However if you have a RTS-game-on-console/big TV-itch I'd say get a cheap copy of LotR: BfMEII for Xbox 360, one of the best RTS games with an adequate console control scheme. Still, that's also a great game on PC too and you guessed it I bought into each version on those platforms-no crossbuy then.

Tried the Blitz beta, had no idea what I was doing even after tutorials lol

Is Black Ops 3 worth the $60?
That's the lowest price I've seen with the season pass.
Seems like a good deal but I would like feedback.
Better than IW?
I did enjoy AW however if that helps.
worth it I was looking for season pass and though "I have to have it" now I'm gonna sell my physical copy. Game goes for around $30 and spass for $30 good deal I'm a satisfied zombies fan now

I wish we still had an arcade locally. There was a somewhat bad one in a mall, but they had a few decent games and would one-price evenings aimed at the older crowd. Died probably 10 years ago now. My closest option now is in Ann Arbor, about 39 minutes away. They're pretty big and have an alright selection, but are bad about upkeep (the MvC2 machine has had a busted button for years), and seem to never get anything new. I finally tried a Dave and Busters last year, but man is their selection trash. Almost everything is some kind of phone adaptation, the only really fun games were a couple of lightgun shooters and some kind of Mario Kart 8 arcade machine from Japan.

Not a permanent thing but if anyone is in the Michigan area there's a pretty awesome arcade that I think travels to a few local conventions. I've only gone to it a Youmacon, but it's nuts every year. Dozens of new machines and Japanese cabinets of classics to most of the fighters, shumps, and rhythm games. Then they have dozens of consoles from current to retro, including a few unique setups like the Saturn Bomberman with 10 controllers on a projector. Next they have a few big LAN stations with 16 players each for Halo: Reach, CoD, and I think LoL or some MOBA on PC. Finally they usually have a big screen and Twitch set up for the main tournaments, Smash and the big fighters.

As for my younger days, I only regularly saw a couple cabinets in a laundry mat. Galaga and some Capcom bowling game with a track ball. Like 15 years ago one theater had the Simpsons arcade, so I played that a lot.

Yeah I haven't played the Beta but reading and watching about it looks to be highly related to how one builds their deck in the first place. Your tactical approach combined with your strategies throughout will allow you to get the win or not. It sounds like teamwork, zone holds and clever countering will be key in your victory.

A good article about it here:http://gameaxis.com/news/games/impressions-halo-wars-2-blitz-stepping-stone-rts/

I think therapy is an OK option for a crime against humanity like that.

Best arcade games:

TMNT
6 player Xmen
Ms Pacman/Galaga combo cabinet
Any dual linked driving game that I can play with my kids

That's it, nothing else matters.

The Neo Geo was my favorite arcade system from the 90s, had a large array of fantastic games in several genres, including fighting, side scrolling action games, and shmups. Samurai Shodown series, Metal Slug series, King of Fighters series, Shock Troopers, Pulstar, Blazing Star, NAM 75, Magician Lord; the system had a ton of great arcade games, which you could even play at home.

You can't forget about the sheer co-op madness of Double Dragon 1 & 2, and my favorite guilty pleasure, Sega's Spider-Man game. It was so nonsensical (Namor and Hawkeye as playable characters! LOL! Black Cat I understand but wtf do they have to do with Spidey??) but awesome and fun as shit! The boss fights were incredible. Green Goblin, Doom, Kingpin, Sandman, Venom, Scorpion...just amazing

I liked the games that were like the beat 'em up equivalent of B-movies, myself.

Lol man... I remember the NES ports of all of these games. Wow those were good times. No internet connection to play with friends so had to walk a mile or more to your best friend's house to see if he was home, and then go play his games.

But what about:

3.jpg

Time Soldiers. So many good games.

Also NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, and Dragon's Lair

Just beat Xcom2. First game of the month for me, so behind my 8.5 games a month pace, but I'll play some shorter stuff now to make up for it.

Game was absolutely fantastic, and I can't recommend it enough if you're a fan of strategy games. Must have had at least half my total kills in overwatch. Bummed there was no achievement for not losing a soldier though.

I would be down for a current gen version of midway arcade treausers, maybe combine the previous 3 compilations and I'd be down, need my cyberball fix

Shame on all of us for forgetting about Contra. That game was the shit.

Random thought....it's crazy how much of an influence Capcom had on my gaming tastes when I look back. They made the best beat em ups, the best co-op games, and the best fighters. Even their SNES games were absolute quality. I'll always cheer for them to succeed, makes me happy Resident Evil 7 was so well received.

God damn, the nostalgia in this thread!!!!! Seeing all those old games makes me wonder why XBox Live rarely gets old arcade ports anymore. You'd think it would be a perfect low cost option for these companies but they rather put them on iphones.

Also, this needs a sequel that doesn't involved little girls singing.

Damn man, I'm in the same boat. The vast majority of my gaming tastes were defined by the likes of Strider, Street Fighter II/Alpha/EX, Mega Man, Final Fight, and tons of other games Capcom produced. Hell, I was playing Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons on Xbox one for several hours before I came to this thread and got hyped by all the oldschool games people were posting.

Did they add any more HE cars other than the 2ND batch that rolled out?
I play at least weekly for Forza Thon and I believe they just added a third batch of new HE Cars. Not to mention, there's a HE car you can win with a Forza Thon Challenge this weekend (I think a Ford Mustang).

I would have a hard time keeping a straight face if Veteran came into my office and that was the presenting concern for therapy.

XCOM2 was great! My only complaint -
is that one of the DLCs made it quite a bit harder if you did it first before getting far enough along in the game. The one that unleashed the three super-strong teleporting bosses. I actually had to re-start because my crew was too underpowered and getting wrecked. Once I re-started and re-strategized, it was fine. I probably should have done the mech one earlier though. Think I missed at least one achievement related to the mech.

Anyone else getting Sniper Elite 4 this week? I have that and Halo Wars 2 pre-ordered. Never played HW and about the only RTS game I've played was Civilization? on 360 (it might've been a GWG), but I enjoyed that one. The Blitz Beta seemed ok, but I would definitely need to get the controls figured out in the campaign.

And I started playing Rainbow Six: Siege again after having purchased the game digitally with Season 2 (the $30 offer from Microsoft) - still fun, but it'll take some time to learn both the new operators and maps.

I remember Rampage 2 on the N64 and had a blast with that. My sister and I would always fight over who got to be Ralph (the werewolf).

For arcades, I was a sucker for the racing games. Cruisin, Daytona USA, etc. Would challenge random strangers to races all the time.

While I don't remember the name, there was a boxing game (in the ESPN center in Baltimore) where you would put on boxing gloves and work your way up the ladder. Lots of fun there as well although it would wear you out quickly.

Edit: Also, any game with a gun. Time Crisis and House of the Dead especially. Spent so many quarters on both of those games.
The boxing game sounds like MoCap Boxing from Konami. I was hoping it would get a Wii or xbox 360 (via Kinect) port but it was never meant to be.

Anyone else play Killer Instincts using 2 fingers (pointer & middle), hitting the X & Y buttons? I do and it makes me want to get a fighting stick but not sure what's good. Any recommendation? Had KI season 1 but haven't really played it after all its updates. I checked out the free GwG season 2 and man this game gotten more fun. Then I got in the Injustice 2 beta and with MvC3 coming soon and then MvC Infinite, I'm thinking about a fighting stick.
If you have a ps3 or xbox 360 arcade stick, look into getting a brooks super converter. They cost around $50 and they have no lag.

Does anyone have info on the winter sale that was talked about a couple days ago? Is it a an actual thing that's happening or just something that's happened in the past we're speculating will happen again? A basic search just brought up the year end count down sale.

I have credit to burn and don't know if I should hold off or preorder south park (even with the delay), mass effect (without playing the other three) or both.

Feb sale is prediction based on the past two(?) years. Likely, but zero official hints so far.

The sale will probably happen but we don't know for sure. There's no real benefit to pre-ordering either game unless you want the bonuses that come with them or are about to have credit expire. At worst you save your credit for the sale and buy nothing, then pay the same amount for Mass Effect on launch.

The Mass Effect bonus is trash. I think South Park gets you the first game now so that's pretty decent, but a couple big delays on top of a virtually untested studio aren't leaving me with a great feeling.

Also off-topic, not that it has ever bothered this thread but is anyone else having trouble with CAG on Chrome? I had to log in through firefox because there wasn't a text entry box on chrome for me.
Just a follow up to my post here, I cleared my cache and everything is back to normal.

On-topic, I've been playing a bunch of fallout shelter again but on the X1, the timers work on a phone because you can boot it up, tap a couple of things and put it away though even that got boring after a while. On X1, I want to sit down to play for a while, having to come back hours later to do anything is killing any enjoyment in it for me.

The sale will probably happen but we don't know for sure.
Thanks! I'll have to be patient and see if there's anything backlog worthy in this potential sale. I still don't know if I want to get metro or dead island this week.

95% of the time I don't preorder unless there's a monetary incentive, usually on top of GCU/amazon prime. I thought there was a $15 Xbox live rewards bonus for preordering them but after double checking I was tricked and it's not per a title but for ordering THREE titles, which is not that great.

Didn't realize south park was a new studio so I'll definitely be waiting a bit after release on that one. It may be a good candidate for Targets ubisoft gold edition/standard version SKU merging a few months after release.

Everyone should be travel banned starting next year. If you apply for a visa before Jan. 1st, you are fine to come and go as you please. We have enough problems. Get rid of them first before opening back up for business. Refugee seeking asylum can be placed in Puerto Rico permanently or until the United States officially restarts accepting refugees. If you are a criminal in America, you get sent to Guam to live freely off of the land or under the control of the military stationed there. Martial law will take place. Guam can be America's Australia. If you already live in Guam, you can be sent to Hawaii or another island nearby that isn't being used primarily for military purposes for free. Now tell me that America cannot be great again.

I love when this thread spawns out in weird directions. Gives me something to laugh about until the BC list comes out and you all mock me for saying BC is dying. I wonder what deals we get next week as well. I want to get Saints Row 3 this week. Is the CheapyD DLC still available?

Looks like I gotta boot up FH3 this weekend d to snag the HE cars at least.

XCom was so good. I felt like the campaign might have been more difficult than the first, but the last mission was definitely easier in this one.
This bosses you are talking about were very cool, but also pretty tricky. I was fortunate enough to have completed the Shen mission first and already had the Mech if I remember correctly. By the end of it he game both my mechs were champions(I think that's the highest) and all my soldiers were cpl with War suit exo suits. The way the skills can be tailored to what you like to do is so cool. One of my most useful soldiers was actually my sniper using her pistol, she could take a free shot at like 6 damage, then do the fan the hammer shot and damage another target with 3 shots totally up to like 24 damage if all hit correctly
. The DLC is fore sure worth it and added a ton to the game

I'm late to the arcade nostalgia talk, but who remembers Space Harrier? I put a lot of quarters in that game as a kid. With cyclops wooly mammoths, two headed dragons, and giant robots it made no sense. But man was I excited when I found it was ported by Sega to the 3DS virtual console with full 3D functionality. One of the few 3DS games where the 3D looks good and improves the game.
