I think it's similar to the Switch Information "pre-order" that they did around the Switch launch. I don't think it's a true pre-order. I also had it show up in my pre-order list on the GS app. I signed up for info on their site and also on a hand written list at a local GS, so I'm not sure which one of those prompted it to show up.

That's a "please give us your info so we can spam you when XB1X units are up for pre-order", not a real pre-order. Supposedly, pre-orders will be going up in 1-2 months before release, so Sep - Oct timeframe.

I fully support this statement. The only compromise is if you have to be signed in and have a certain number of posts or something. Then we at least know who thinks we suck

Japan didn't have a good reception in general, with the consensus being it's a less good Tales style game.

A lot of people are upset it doesn't play like the Chronicles games.

 
Came home from work to the news that Lonzo Ball's shoes are now available in purple and gold. But more importantly, my Mixpot from E3 is finally downloading!
 
On topic : Yay video games are fun and we have a generally awesome community in this thread. And I think game pass is great, and leveling up Illusion in Skyrim is a super easy way to level up if you need help to fight  a legendary dragon. AND LONG LIVE BC

-There was an update today the changed the default controls to the snap style. I don't like it because it's too slow and I found that you can revert back to the old controls in the settings.

- Pressing RB would let you select 1 item at a time if you were clicking a stack of items, but after the update the button is now X.

Yes. and also any game that does not receive a patch IE 4k resolution or enhanced fps etc will have 16x AF Filtering, Forced V-Sync and any game with dynamic resolution will hit the max resolution (1080P) on top of that any game with unlocked frame rate will most likely hit much higher. Not to mention games that target 30fps and hit lower numbers will probably be near 30fps locked.

On a serious note, I'm hoping that the games that get Xbox One X updates also get HDR support on the S. The number of HDR supported games is a bit lacking and could use a boost.

The TCL one at Costco is listed as HDR. Realistically for me, I suspect at that price point I'd be happy with any TV that is larger than the old Vizio with the sometimes green line down the right hand side that I have now.

Plus, the Costco TCL has a 4yr warranty if you use the Costco branded Visa. So that's a plus too.[attachment=26920:S403 Spec Sheets.pdf.pdf]

I personally have never heard of TCL before. After getting burned twice on Westinghouse tvs I only do Sony and Samsung now

Thank you for this information. That might be why I had difficulty playing it this morning before work. And I thought it was impossible for it to get any slower. It would be nice if some other things were improved like not having to walk all the way into town to see the damn birthday calendar. After the third or fourth time, I just said f--- these NPCs and their f------ birthdays. They're all dicks until you give them a present anyway. Then, it reminded me of my friends and family, and I calmed down.
 
Now that we're back on topic, I think my HDR woes have been solved?

Part of the problem was expectation. After seeing some people on here claim it was life changing, I thought I'd see an incredibly impressive picture once that HDR kicked in.

Well... it didn't happen.

After screwing around with Netflix, a 4K UHD Bluray, and FH3 for a while, I finally did see what the fuss was about, and I believe there's way too much fuss. Yes, to an almost indescribable degree (and I mean that with a negative connotation), HDR is an improvement. It's just kinda not a big deal.

Spoiler for the rest of the story since I feel it's long.

My basic fix was seeing that Forza Horizon 3 had a new option in the video settings to adjust the HDR brightness. After maxing the backlight and contrast as well as this new setting, and then adjusting the brightness per the same menu in game, I thought I had it looking halfway decent. I drove around a while, noticing that it looked not terrible anymore, and then suddenly the sun came out. Out of any part of this HDR experience, that was the first moment where I was little bit in awe. It probably had a lot to do with being relieved that it seemed to be working after all the headaches I've had tweaking and Googling.

Night time did look nice and dark yet still clear, bright sunlight was really good, but inbetween it's kinda blah. I think that's the goal? Mimicking the grayness of a real life overcast day?

My takeaway is that it's nice, but not a visual orgasm. And it takes a minute to get used to it. It truly looks bizarre at first. The colors just look... wrong. And then the brain (hopefully) clicks and figures out what the display is trying to do, and then it starts to look okay. It's hard to put in words.

Anyway, thanks for the help I got earlier in the week.

tl;dr HDR looks good, but in my opinion is not as amazing as you might have heard. You can live without it for now.

^^ Thing is if you are manually upping your Backlight and Contrast, you may still not be getting HDR. Not sure if it's the same on other TVs but on my Samsung, it automatically does some adjustments, including cranking the Backlight to max, when it detects HDR video.
 
How about JVC? I remember the brand being "top-tier" in the late 80's and early/mid 90's. Although I think Europe was (is?) their main market.
 
Every tv/monitor in my house is Samsung. Only had one die in the last 11+ years and that was my kids fault. I had a 720p plasma and my youngest always turned it immediately on and off. Eventually it tapped out. Couldn't do that with plasma and it had a beautiful picture too.

 
Screw it... gonna continue to finish up some shorter games until the end of the month, and then hop back into the Witcher 3 for the month of July.  Have 120 hours played and just reached the Skellige Isles lol.  Hopefully I can finish it up, and then restart Shaw of Mordor.  Got halfway through before I traded it in, and then purchased the game of the year, thinking I can just play the 2nd half.  Nope.  Been avoiding it ever since.

I don't think I'll be able to buy a TV that isn't Samsung. The one I have now is a 65" plasma that is just beautiful. It helps out in the winter months as well with the amount of heat it gives off :)

It's definitely HDR. When HDR content is displayed, it switches to an HDR video mode. The default HDR settings had the blacklight maxed at 100 when it turns on, which I guess isn't saying much since all the rest of the default settings were at 95. It also had saturation at 60 instead of the 50 used on most of the rest of the default settings. The options in the HDR mode aren't as robust as the rest. There's no way to adjust the white balance or gamma. Just some basic BS stuff (dynamic contrast, dynamic backlight, fake 120Hz, etc) along with the various brightness and color settings. But again, using the simple calibration images in the FH3 video settings menu, I was able to make the Forza logo in the HDR box disappear as well as the very dark 1, so it's set up properly at least for that game. I haven't tried any other games because the only other one I have with HDR is that free Hitman thing from earlier this week that I haven't started.

Netflix HDR content looked nice as well as the Passengers 4K disc I rented. Problem is they don't have any calibration images, so I'm guessing on the brightness, but I think I got them looking good.

I know that HDR is supposed to look like whatever it's supposed to look like, but though the options I have to adjust the image are limited, without them I'd end up turning HDR off. Without tweaking, it looked like booty.
 
I've been very happy with the 46" 1080p Samsung I got on clearance at target back in 2014.

Before that I used a 26" I got at Kmart for $120 in 2010. Forget what brand it was, but it still worked fine, the remote just wasn't working, and the power controls on the tv itself were being wonky. Picture was still great though.

Sorta have to agree here. 65" HDR Slamsung upstairs and a 50" G50 Panny plasma in the basement. The G50 is still my favorite to have the X1s hooked up to.
 
I know it goes against the Xboxness of this thread, but after all the horror stories I've heard (and have experienced) I will only stick with Sony televisions from now till forever
