This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Will you be afraid tomorrow when the game's free?
Pshh, no!! Maybe fearful and on edge, but certainly not afraid.

Usually takes a while for XBL to sync everything up. I saw it free on the web site when looking at the Games page for Dead Island, but the full list of everything still said $19.99. XBLDB picked up the free price (as well as an Ultra Mix Pack for DJ Hero 2), but then the free price went away from the Games page, then it came back. The full listing now seems to be going back and forth, don't know if it's the site or browser cache. When it becomes free on the console is another question.
Ahh, ok. Thanks for the explanation. I want to kill zombies!!

Can I ask what region?
Germany. Metro 2033 is a great game, already own it, as well as DI (both can be easily completed achievement-wise too).

On the other hand I got Toy Soldiers for free some time ago and am pleased to be able to get CW also for free :D

If the DI DLC does go on sale I'd suggest avoiding the Ryder White pack. It's not that fun and doesn't include achievements. I had the GOTY edition or whatever so it was included. It does explain the origin of the virus though if you're really into the story lol. The arena mode was okay but nothing special either. I would avoid both packs at $10 and only consider them if they're on sale.

For the guy that said randoms kept jumping into his game, I believe there's an option at the main menu or under options where you can specify your game lobby privacy. I restricted my games easily.

I'm so indifferent about this month's freebies that I might not even bother downloading them. I've got the hard drive space, but getting games on my system out in the boonies is such a massive pain that it's probably not worth my time.

I forgot to say I was able to purchase DI for free on the Dashboard right now. Cancelled the DL immediately since I have no interest in playing it again but it seemed it be working.

I don't agree with you. Rider White is a very fun DLC and is very important if you want to know what happened (it's strongly story related), imo people say that it's not good mainly because it doesn't have chievos.

Also, if you are an achievement hunter, the bloodbath arena do have them, so it's also good to get that DLC.

I bought them both for half the price and don't regret it.

I say it's not that great because you never level your character or get to add any skills. That's part of what made DI fun for me. I agree it's a good add to the narrative, but imo DI is not a game you play for the story.

I know what you mean, I'd also like to add more skills or level up in that DLC. But it's worth 400msp imo anyways.

It seems that neither of the DLC nor Riptide are on sale though, so it doesn't really matter.

Wow, no DLC sale? Since I'm an achievement "junkie" I wanted the DLC for achievements. Now I'll either never play this game, or I'll just find a GOTY physical copy cheaper than paying the $10 for the Multiplayer pack. Will just cancel the download so I at least have it in my purchase history, but I'm pretty bummed right now.

Just an FYI, but the DLC for DI is completely separate from the main game (with the exception of the Ripper mod).

So the free games with Gold are Dead Island and Toy Soldiers for February?  Just renewed my Gold subscription thanks to the Best Buy sale.

I already have Toy Soldiers.   I really hope spending the $40 will be worth it, to renew, in the following 11 months.

For those who don't want to link a credit card with Xbox.com, but want to purchase free stuff on there do this: if you have an empty visa/mastercard giftcard laying around, register it for online use. (the website should be on the back of the card)  Then enter it with the details you registered it with on Xbox.com as a credit card.  Then it'll let you download the free stuff, without having to use your Xbox and without risking credit card details, or putting a credit card on your MS account.

GBPackrat & FL1PSID3 got a Maw Code

Razzle & SIX min WHISTLE got a Toy Soldiers Code

I got some more requests, but since those weren't for personal use, I'm sorry if I refused to give out codes to you. (It's nice if you think of other people too, but I wanted to share them with actual members on here, so sorry again if you didn't get any.)

On a side note everyone who has received a code, you will have 24 hours to redeem it. After that I will just throw the codes to the masses (if still unused) to prevent selling or trading them again.

On another note I still have some Codes left (Games, DLC and Avatar Items) I'm willing to share with the community, but I will call it a day for tonight. (Maybe I will just do contests again in the contest & free stuff section and revive my old thread)

P.S. @tyler I also got your request, I might save a code just for you...

It is Toy Soldiers Cold War. I believe it is the sequel to Toy Soldiers.

Lack of achievements is NOT the problem with Ryder White. I agree with you that the addition to the story is interesting, but this piece of DLC is half-assed in every other way.

#1 By far the most important omission - NO multiplayer/co-op. The co-op element is a large part of what makes Dead Island fun. The Ryder White campaign doesn't support this at all, it's single player only.

#2 No skill tree for Ryder - unlike the 4 main characters, Ryder has no skill tree or leveling at all. He's just a generic character.

#3 Uneven difficulty - the initial, outside area of this campaign is somewhat brutal, but the difficulty gets a lot more manageable after you get out of the city. This point is fairly minor compared to the first two.

I enjoyed the additional story perspective in Ryder, but it's certainly not worth $10, and neither is the arena DLC. I was glad that everything came with my GOTY version.

You bought Gold just for the games? Isn't that a waste of money?

Don't agree. I enjoyed it.
15 hours wasted in a buggy, fetch-questy, story-thin game like dead island could be better put to playing Far Cry 3 or The Last of Us. Free or not, my time is valuable. i'm still happy to have it there, but it's going DEEP in the backlog.

did you like riptide?

You actually got more of the actual story from playing the Ryder White Campaign than the main one. I love the game though, I'm just annoyed that they picked a game I already own when my game library is so small. :p

I honestly never came across many of the glitches people complained about or save file corruption but then again I didn't play it anywhere near release. The only glitch I've come across is the stairs glitch, which was hilarious to me the first time I had it happen.

While Far Cry 3 is awesome it is just as repetitive as most open world games.

I love the dashboard tile proclaiming Madden 25 for "under $25" when the pre-tax price is $25.19. Good going, Microsoft.

DI isn't a buggy mess anymore. They fixed most of the bugs. We rarely encountered any bugs when we played 2 playthroughs several months after release. They were so minor I don't even remember them. Played again for a couple hours tonight and no bugs at all.

Bizarre that there is nothing else on sale, I expected at the very least a DI sale (DLCs + Riptide maybe), or even a Deep Silver one (throw in Saints Row and such). Hopefully they'll add stuff later on.

Which reminds me, fellow CAGs, Deep Silver also published the infamous Ride To Hell: Retribution. Given how it's universally considered one of the worst games in existence, what's the price tag that you'd buy it for, if not else for the curiosity of trying out such a terrible game? :p

Anyone played Realms of Ancient War? Looks like an average Diablo style dungeon crawler. Wondering if its worth a buy at 5 bucks.

Wound up picking Phantom breaker. Retro style beat em ups are always gold to me, but it got me thinking.... what ever happened with the original fighting game? I remember it was supposed to get a release but i dont think it ever did

Dead Island was fantastic in the beginning areas, but I quickly lost interest when you go further inland. Just a dark urban jungle mess that didn't have the appeal of killing zombies on the beach.

I enjoyed playing DI a lot more than playing Far Cry 3. As they stated, it's bugs were patched. But you are free of no liking the game, so if that's the case, play another game instead. Edit: and it's no "15 hours", I played 80+ in DI, while about 50 in Far Cry 3, the difference is that when I was 20+ hours in Far Cry 3, I wanted it to finish already (but did all the side missions anyways)..

Also I prefer playing solo than in co-op (unless chievos), so in Ryder's White campaign didn't bother me to play solo.

HOLY CRAP!! A game that I want is actually on sale. Looks like Phantom Breaker will be my first Xbox Live Arcade purchase in months. I am honestly in a state of shock. Wasn't sure I was ever going to buy another game on sale. Woo hoo!

Regarding Toy Soldiers...

The original is great.   It's WWI-based and it has an atmosphere very different than most any other wargame you'll play.  The flares go up at night, the bugle sounds, and the first wave hits.  I think the original TS works because WWI *was* basically tower defense and wave-based, so it all just works.  Best part is once you win as the British side, you then get to play back through as the German side and the battles *do* play very differently.

If you don't have the original TS and ignore someone giving free codes for it, you're really missing out on a good game.  It also doesn't take up a ton of HD space.  I have a pretty small HD still and TS is one of the few games that has stayed on it the entire time.  Original TS is one of my favorite XBL games easily.

Everyone should give TS: Cold War a try when it's free.

Toy Soldiers

It was sitting in my backlog since beginning of Fall. I decided to give it a shot last night and ended up playing till 3am in the morning.

Fantastic Game! I was always attracted to tactical and strategy games.

Yes it surely is in the style of Tower Defense and enemy comes in waves. Somewhat similar to Defense Grid(it was free with GwG months back). The beauty about Toy Soldiers is that it applies more involvement in action, whether in Defense Grid you only take a tactical side by arranging defense structures; In TS you get to have some action by taking over any unit in your disposal and manually operate it: Machine Gun, Mortar, hell you even get fly the planes + get into Tanks. I have to say that the physics in TS are so well done. When I'm flying a plane it really feels like I'm piloting old WorldWar technology, same goes for riding a Tank screen tilts when you go over bumpy terrain and hills. I love it. They did really good job with physics.

Speaking of codes, I did pick up TS from a fellow CAG doing his generous code giveaway. I bet many CAGs had the same experience in acquiring the game. TS doesn't take a lot of space in HD, it is small arcade game but it delivers vast and fun experience.

I'm definitely looking forward to TS: Cold War, as I mentioned before its the only game that I'm looking forward to with Feb GwG

TS is a must play especially if you are fan of tactical, Tower defense style of gameplay.

Dead Island isn't very enjoyable if you don't play with friends. It's best to play co-op. Same thing with Borderlands
I have to disagree, because I have enjoyed playing solo Borderlands 1& 2. Yes I do like co-op quite a lot, but it's also captivating to explore the environment by yourself and learn the ropes.

Oh cool, I thought the original Toy Soldiers was the freebie.  I have that and not the Cold War sequel. Didn't even know there was a sequel.  Played the original for a bit, never finished it though.

Played the original Borderlands solo.  Hope Dead Island will be okay solo.
