This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Why not play STF like Contra and don't use rewind time?

In hardcore mode your characters only have 1 life unless you rescue them. That might be more appealing to people finding the game to be too easy.

So you guys had like an attempted unauthorized access to your profile from Russia and stuff? Cute. According to that link, in August I had:

1 from Russia

1 from Hungary

1 from Kazakhstan

1 from Mexico

1 from Turkey

1 from Ecuador

1 from France

1 from Iran

Good thing I increased safety on my profile, this is madness right here.

Try playing STF like a puzzle game with guns. It took awhile before it clicked with me, I did not like it at all but after I got familiar with the mechanics and stopped trying to play it like Gunstar Heroes I loved it.

DL'd and played Super Time Force just now. I'm very mixed on it. I love the retro aesthetic, music was great, I liked the three initial characters and their unique abilities, the runnin' n' gunnin' was fun......but I didn't care for the time manipulation gimmick. I know that's the whole point of the game, but it turned it into a psuedo puzzle game and I just wanted an old school, Gunstar Heroes style side scrolling shooter. Not bad, just not my thang, I suppose. I'll keep it on the hard drive just in case, like Guacamelee, I want to give it another try.
That's how I feel about it. It looks like it would have been a great game, but I don't like having to deal with the puzzle of time rewind while fighting enemies. On top of that, being timed is just frustrating. It's probably my most hated game mechanic.

Yep, I saw the way things were going about 4 years ago. The amount of hacking and account/identity theft has skyrocketed. I took precautions: I use 14+ character passwords, two-step authentication when possible, and limit my online exposure to fraud/theft, (no debit cards online and credit cards only on credible sites where extra protection is offered).

The news and politicians don't give it the attention it needs, probably because it would bring further attention to how much the NSA and other 3-letter agencies of our government is doing to undermine our privacy through hacking of their own.

And, the tech companies are complicit. Remember Heartbleed? You don't hack RSA encryption. You get around it with the keys/back door access built in by the software designers, which was given to the NSA.

How exactly did Russian hackers get an estimated 1.2 billion accounts, and why hasn't more information been offered on who/what was compromised?

I can tell you this, and the news/policitians/tech companies won't... Origin was hit., (I can prove this). Twitter was hit, (I can prove this too, but Twitter is a piece of crap, and I removed my account and don't miss it). I'm also convinced that Microsoft, Yahoo, Gmail, Facebook, and possibly Amazon and Apple were hit.

How they were hit? My best guess is that someone got access to the keys/backdoor access that was meant for the NSA, and was covered up. Go Google this, I'll wait. Back? okay, so my guess is you found a massive onslaught of people griping about people hacking/cheating in online games, and little to no mention of hacking in general, except brief news mentions of the Russian hacking groups, and the mentions of Target getting hit last Christmas season. Nothing of real substance, and no mention of actions being taken to better secure our network infrastructure or electronic payment infrastructure. And certainly little or no mention of how the hackers did it or leaked keys/backdoor access. And zero mention of tech company complicitity in creating this access in the whole deal.

Almost makes you want to go back to the old days of being offline, doesn't it? But, even if you were to do that, you'd still be online against your will: use a credit/debit card? Your info is out there, even for physical in-store purchases, (and the security of cards in the USA is laughable. Your payment/money is secured by a 4-digit PIN code, many credit card sites have passwords without special characters: letters and numbers only, and now we see NFC and electronic credit card apps putting everything on phones). Have a medical record? It's out there. Use the library to check out books? Info is out there. Drive a car? Your info is out there. Have a job? Your info is out there. Have social security or other benefits? Your info is out there. The list goes on and on.

The only thing you can do is be proactive. Take steps to secure yourself.

That was a surprisingly lenghty read given my initial comment, but I completely agree. I was forced to change my password twice in the past month, because it suddenly it didn't accept my correct password. No, I didn't have Caps Lock, amnesia or typo. I know what I typed, my password didn't work, my MS account did not work with my actual password. I managed to recover it fine, but don't tell me they didn't hack Live at one point or another. I don't expose my gamertag that much but there we go, this stuff keeps on happening more and more, with MS and others as well. Plus if I look back at those accesses, the Russia and Hungary one are minutes apart. I'm supposed to believe 2 completely unrelated hackers just thought of hacking me on the same time frame? Yeah, sure. Someone's playing dirty with some giant loopholes that MS is not fixing. It happened other times as well so something is definitely fishy here. Sony's infamous giant hacking story was also uncool, they kept their service down for 40 days or so to fix the issues. Well, they're getting hacked every other day still, except it's now less of a news because... y'know, they fixed the issue, it's alright.

It doesn't help that lowlife scumbags are also into this. I remember I used to use a website for trading Steam games, and I've made a complaint on the forums about something rather unfair that happened to me. Next thing I know, someone was apparently butthurt and tried to hack my Steam account. At this point, I'd rather take over 1 minute for each log-in than have my accounts stolen that are worth way more than their economic value alone. It's an annoying situation and it's not like you can really do much against it either: to stay strictly at games, you want to play the hottest games right now? Fancy playing FIFA, Madden, Call Of Duty, Battlefield, The Sims and such blockbusters? That's cool, most features are online and you're very much cut out without the Internet - if you can even play (see Diablo 3 or SimCity on PC). You want to play new titles like Destiny and Titanfall? Wouldn't it be a shame if all content was multiplayer pretty much? At this point you can barely do anything without having an account, without tying valuable things to it, and if you were to lose the account, you'd lose a giant value. Of course people can rob your home as well, but it's a little bit easier to hack someone without getting out of your chair rather than taking the effort to break in to someone - not to mention courage and risks.

It's an annoying situation because you risk too much by simply using "innocent" services. Laziness is your enemy in this war, better take a minute or so to log in rather than losing accounts full of valuable stuff (and I believe most CAGs would contemplate self-harm if their profiles with gazillions of games would be compromised).

Well, there's some new hacking news going around right now.  Early reports are Apple (iCloud) was hit.  Gotta say, those are some wild outtakes from the MLB 2K12 cover photoshoot.

Is it true that it's safer to manually log-in each time than to confirm/check the box that says "remember me/keep me signed in" on websites? Something about the websites storing the password(?).

Apparently, a hacker got a bunch of celeb nudes from iCloud

I believe the "remember me/keep me signed in" things are related to the cookies stored for the website on your pc and not the actual website storing your password.

Hmmm... Passwords stored on iOS devices. Checked and verified. Guess what the first thing I did was? Made sure iOS keychain upload to iCloud was off, (it was), and disabled auto fill for passwords. No credit card info was ever saved, (due to my previous "paranoia": who's getting screwed now?).

Is this the keys/tools that hackers have been using? Me thinks so.

Ridge Racer Unbounded got good reviews, but I found the demo to be pretty blah. To anyone who's played the full game, is this one of those instances where the demo doesn't do it justice, or am I just in a different boat than the reviewers?

I was wondering if you downloaded one of the premium cable apps like showtime anytime and were to delete it and download it again, would you have to authenticate the console again?

I keep sharing my view on the game whenever the game goes on sale (which happens fairly often nowadays). So, it's not a Ridge Racer game basically, it's much closer to FlatOut (being it made by Bugbear). The driving can be tricky at first (me, like most people, will struggle not finishing last at the first races), but once you get the hang of it it's fairly fun and not too difficult. The game's art style seems to copy a bit from everything: bits of FlatOut, Burnout, Split/Second are all over the place style-wise, but it looks fine. As you progress with the game you'll find multiple game modes and, most importantly, custom tracks. This is where the game's at, as there's a solid track editor that lets you build some bonkers stuff: it's still using the city "blocks" you meet in regular maps, but you can place them in any order, plus you can place ramps, explosives, walls just about anywhere you want, effectively being able to do what you like (gymkhana parks, stunt areas, explosive jumps, or simply fast tracks: whatever suits you). If you get a liking of the driving model, you'll enjoy the game a lot, possibly long-term. The main downside is the broken online, I got the game a few weeks after launch and I could not find a working lobby basically - and by now it's probably dead. But the custom tracks work, so...

No, the demo was right on. Maps all look the same. Though I never did try the semi-truck mode which still looks fun.

Still don't know if I should bite on Shadow Complex. I hate that term "Metroidvania". I love Castlevania, I'm indifferent to Metroid, so there's only a 50% chance I'll like this game. I'm leaning on passing.

The foam gun was fun to use in Shadow Complex, though I hated the respawning enemies after just leaving a room (is that supposed to be a feature in "Metroidvania" games?)

Does anyone know if Halo Reach has region block ?
I know that none of the Halo games have region block on disc - I've bought a heap of them in Australia for my Canadian NTSC Xbox 360 without issue and gave my Australian nephews my Canadian versions (including Halo Reach) when I moved here for them to play and they had no problems playing them on their PAL consoles. I'd assume that that's the case for the digital versions too as I've found that if it's blocked on disc it'll be blocked on digital and vice versa. But don't quote me on this as I don't know for sure - but my money would be on no region block.

Warframe isn't necessarily a good game, but it has some easy achievements and is fun with friends. It's better than most free to play console games.

Would you prefer the phrase "2D side scroller with a large map that requires acquiring items / abilities to open up more areas"? That's pretty much what the term applies to (with some variation), it has little to do with either series other than the fact that they were among the earliest to use that style and have used it multiple times.

Shadow Complex seemed more 2D Uncharted than a metroidvania type game, I thought. It's a great game that shouldn't be missed.

The only thing similar to Uncharted is the main character is designed/voice like Nathan Drake. It's very much a mix of Metroid's mechanics and upgrades with an Castlevania-style leveling system that has simpler rewards. It's the best of both worlds.

Do people here forget that XBLA games have demos? It shouldn't be hard to try it out to see how any of you guys like it.

Nothing beats Castle Crashers for me.

Just couldn't get into Shadow Complex from the game trial.
For me, it'd be Guardian of Light. Maybe it falls under my "everything is fun with coop" rule, but I friggin' had a blast with the game. So much fun running through the levels and the challenges were pretty dope.

I prefer "Castletroids" to "Metroidvanias"

I thought the story had an adventure game tone .....dunno, I stand by my comment. But, yes, try the demo, then realize this game is worth your $5.
