XBL DOTW - FIFA 09 Ultimate Team 400 points

Well, that's it. Xbox Live DOTW is dead. I'd say it had a good run, but other than Penny Arcade for half off and a few decent games for five bucks, it really hasn't.

Seriously, out of all of the content on Live, they pick this? The FIFA games aren't bad but they're already niche to begin with, and this is a trading card game add-on? This is going to sell like hotcakes.

Craptacular! Way to screw up a good thing Xbox.

I was really hoping for something good but damn we haven't had that for weeks.

Whoa wait. Am I missing something or did Microsoft accidentally mark it as free?

From the description, this is more like a limited trial. You get 5 free plays, and then the option to buy it.

How often is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week actually exciting? Not this week, at least, but it will be this month! On August 24, Microsoft will offer something pretty tempting: Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned for 1200

($15), 5 bucks off the normal asking price for the Grand Theft Auto IV expansion.

If you're the guy who bought GTA IV on 360 but hasn't picked this up yet -- and you don't want to wait for Episodes from Liberty City -- now's a great time to pick up a new set of missions to give up on halfway through the game, in favor of just doing awesome bike jumps.

The announcement also reveals that a deal for Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 2 is incoming, so ... you know, don't buy it yet. Also, a Halo 3 Dashboard theme that you really don't need to buy ever.

Do you also take lawnmowers over to your local mall and go to town instead of playing Dead Rising?

Ultimate Team is a fun little diversion and back when the game came out there was a good amount of competition but considering how close FIFA 10 is to coming out, it seems like it wouldn't really be worth getting into now.

edit: ...but somehow I feel like some people who loooove FIFA will see this as a good way to play the game more and get achievements.

Eh, I really, really enjoyed FIFA '09 but its too late for me to bite on this unless I'm convinced otherwise... FIFA '10 is out in a few months.

Ultimate team was really fun and addicting in the beginning because it was interesting to see the varied teams people had at the time. Before the majority of the people were able to get Casillas, Torres, Villa, Benzema, Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo etc with 99 stats. 80% of the teams you'll face are just Spanish, French, and Brasilian National teams because having players from the same nation grants a chemistry bonus. In the beginning, it was fun to hunt bargains in the trade/market place. Since the market is oversatured, its not difficult now.

The flaw of the damn thing is that with 99 shooting, finishing, and acceleration. There is no defense to be played. Most of the time, its a damn goal scoring fest. I literally take 30-40 yard shots with 99 shooting/finishing Karim Benzema and I score 70% of the time.

Then, theres gameplay cards which grant advantages to the player for one game. For example, you can play a card that slows down their striker or defender making it easy for you to bash the other team. I personally do not like gameplay cards. My biggest gripe with Ultimate team is that it takes away from skill and just places more importance on players, player stats, and gameplay cards.

I agree. Plus the season is over and won't resume for a few months. I guess this is good for achievements but that's it. I'll pass.
Outdated sports game DLC should always be free.
Yes. Just like the old map packs from older games such as call of duty 2. Those map packs still retail as dlc for the same price as when they were first released.

They should have made this as a standalone version of FIFA to complement the actual game. Then I would buy it for 400pts. Otherwise its lame.
