XBLA - Carcassonne (800pts)
Um, 800 points for Monopoly, thats it. They could release 'themes' later on which im sure they would charge like 100 or 200 points for but Monopoly would be nice.
It was a joke!!!

I was exaggerating how microsoft overcharges for things on live...

This was my first XBLA blind buy and after a couple of hours with it, I must say this and Catan are easily my favorite XBLA games. It's easy fun and wasy to learn, while the matches are short but sweet.

I'll be getting it later if the Demo holds up and post impressions later and try to answer questions for people.

I played the demo last night when it first came up. I think I like it, though it is hard to tell from the short demo. But I'm definitely leaning towards getting this later today. For the 4-player local games, do you need 4 controllers, or can you pass one around? I have 2, and might buy a third, but I can't see getting 2 more controllers just for this but I would like to play the game with my kids if possible.

But I could see getting the real game if they like playing this. And I'm sure that is part of the intention of these board game->XBLA conversions ;).

Anyways, Rolento, maybe we can get a game going late tonight (just based on when I'd see you playing Catan I figured that was feasible).

Quasi-relatedly, we should do a CAG board game night. I only have Catan at this point, but planning on probably picking up Carcassone too.

im good with that. ill be picking up carcassone in about 20 minutes when i sit down in front of the 360.

Ok Ok . This game looks pretty cool. Anyone care to post thoughts on persuading me to buy this? I'll ask again. Is this anythign like Civilization? Like do you start with a small farm/Castle and that shit grows whiel you harvest for food/mine? Please post some thoughts! Thanks!

yeah, i'd be up for something later. I'm usually on in later hours.

to cover the game: It's very different to Catan in terms of pacing. You can go as slow or as fast as you want with this game and its fun either way. It's actually harder and more interesting once you learn on ways of screwing with your opponent or forcing them to help you.

It has a points system like catan, but feels a bit more paced right. most games I played are under 15 min and can be semi tough against even easy AI. I say for 800pts it's definitely worth it, plus it takes all the management out from the real board game. Its he fun with no hassle.

I'd be up for a game anytime as well. Concept looks simple enough, but I can see some mad planning being involved for end-game. (I've already came from behind twice thanks to farms.)

I played the trial version when I got home and liked it. Will definitely purchase once I can get ahold of some Marketplace Points. Earlier I used my last 350 points on 1 of the Lumines DLC.

I picked it up. It stays very true to the original. I destroyed the computer on a one on one easy match to start, I got like 5 or 6 or the achievements haha.

Tried to play online, but no one was on.

Yea I picked this up today as I felt the game would be really fun in the long run. I did a couple of multiplayer matches but now can't find any games. Might be my connection but other than that I'm loving this game. Who would have thought digital board games would be so much fun.

Definitely up for playing whenever - tag on the left. Was ranked in the low 100s earlier this afternoon, not that it means much this early. =P

Playing against the computer i usually end up with the most points in farms.

Ugh. Seems like all the idiots decided to download this one.

I think I've had two decent matches via Live. The rest...there's been at least one moron who has NO business touching the controller.

This doesn't seem like the kind of game that would attract jackasses. What were they doing? Note that my XBL experiences so far have consisted of getting booted from a Burnout Revenge players match for not having my headset hooked up, playing a couple games of Aegis Wing, and playing Chromehounds with CAG's. I've yet to be exposed to grade A XBL morons yet ('cept that first guy ;)).

By the way, I like the game. I just hope the expansions are priced dirt cheap - not sure I want to end up doubling the cost of this to get all the extras. The River one (included) is nice - adds a little variety to the proceedings.

I managed one online match last night, and the people I played against sounded intelligent. After that, I couldn't find any open games; hopefully more people download the game in the coming days.

Ohhh, I love this game. My girlfriend and I have the core game and 3 expansions for it...she'll be excited to hear that we can play people on Live with it. For the last year the only other people who've played with us have been another couple we're friends with...and they're really bad sports, so it's not all that fun with them.

I would be up for doing a CAG Carcassonne night at some point. I haven't played with more than 2 people before, but I've played a lot of 1v1 against my gf on the actual board game.

I got into board games in the last 6 months or so. I have been playing Catan non-stop and am really excited by the board game content coming up on XBLA. Really simple games would be great for live content.. like Lost Cities, or Diamant!

I am just learning Carcassonne since I havent played this with my game group... so I wouldnt be able to offer much right now (might fall in that no business picking up a controller category) but I would be very down for CAG player matches. We should try to organize one!

A little off topic, but how did you find a board game group? I love complex board games but don't really have any friends who like to play.

I basically forced it on my friends =oP We started with a videogame/catan meeting every 2-3 weeks, then I just kept buying games and giving them guilttrips since I was spending the money

I am thinking of joining a local board game group. I ran across them on the Boardgamegeek boards and just through a google search for my area + board game group.

You can try here:

Good luck!
I wanna see Risk 2210 on XBL. That game's fantastic :)
I think we can all agree that Risk would be great to play on Live.
I think we can all agree that Risk would be great to play on Live.
I would agree with that.

Played a 5 player match yesterday and everything went great. I'm glad Carcassonne has better net code than Catan, I could never get into a game with Catan. Yea this game is double the fun online as human players like to go for bigger cities than the small ones the AI builds. I've meet all good people playing the game on live.
I think we can all agree that Risk would be great to play on Live.
Risk would be fun...Risk 2210 would be divine. If you haven't played it, basically it's Risk with underwater and lunar territories and cards that let you set deathtraps, nuke each other, and have stealth troops. Very cool. But yeah, I'd happily play regular Risk.
My only gripe is when big cities are built the game pauses for a sec, but nothing to ruin it. very fun. call me addicted.
I get that when any city is built, or road or when any animation happens so maybe they'll fix that with a patch sometime.

Last time I played risk, it went on for hours.... Which means risk on live wouldn't work unless you only played with friends, because people on live quit after 30 minutes.

They would obviously have to implement different limits on the game. They could easily put on a 30 minute time max and such.

I think they would change the game up like you can do with Catan where you change it to speed up gameplay. They could also modernize RISK and have super weapons that help finish the game quiker.

I just beat the AI in Carcossonne on expert! Wooo, it's all about strategic farming.

Well, so far it seems #1 on single player has played 286 games...insane. Sadly, i CANNOT find any one to play with online, either ranked or player. Anyone else having a hard time getting into matches?
I have a problem online too, it always says there's some error connecting. Even when I host matches no one joins.
Agreed. That, and it seems noone does ranked matches, ever.

Still a lot of fun to play, though. I'm good for at least 5-10 games a night.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having connection problems. I've played a few matches, but more often than not I get some error. What's really annoying is that it kicks you back to the main menu, and you have to input all the multiplayer selections in again. Hopefully they'll update this with a patch.

Anything over 2 players in a match and I have a huge problem staying connected, would love to get a CAG night going sometime and hopefully we can remedy it a little. Ranked matches haven't been too bad, as long as I host them - never been able to connect to one that I hadn't made myself.

My other minor annoyance is after every game it asks me to select the hard drive, then automatically starts a new game.

Yeah, i'm hoping they patch the game to fix the lag when a road or castle is complete, and continually asking where i want to save. They could really spice things up with the expansions if they are priced right, can't wait to see those :)

Now, so far i see that at a few thousand people have at least downloaded the game and played once, so where is everyone online? Hopefully they fix the multiplayer because there are a few achievements that can only be unlocked by going online (a big no in my book when it comes to achievments).

I know the save thing is annoying all the time and when I play with four people I sometimes loose them and the AI takes over. What is funny is at the end when we're counting our scores people can join in and claim the win!? Four players in this game is the magic number as I think you have more strategy than a 2 player game.

Bought this game yesterday and have been playing it nonstop throughout the day. I agree about having a CAG Gameboard Night. Count me in!

CML for XBLA games that I own and send me a FR w/ CAG in the message.

I think there's much more strategy involved in a 2 player game than in a 4 player game.

I love 2-player as well.

I finally figured out why it keeps starting a new game. If you hit A it starts a new game, if you hit X it goes back out to the menu after scoring.

I'm saying instead of worrying about the moves of one person you have to worry about 2 other people now and the game gets more strategic. Thanks for the x button info, I'll try that next time I play.
