Well, if you lack an original Xbox, obviously you're limited to playing it on a "buggy emulator" anyway, so absolutely no difference. I would suspect if anything it'd run a little smoother from the hard drive if not the same.
It just comes down to how important a "hard copy" is to you. It's confined to your hard drive, but simultaneously, I don't think the next pieces of hardware are necessarily going to run original Xbox game discs any better.
I went back and forth in my head with this for a long time over Psychonauts before I finally just bought it.
The disc versions and the download copies play the same. As far as Fable 1 and 2, they seemed fairly independent of each other to me. The story doesn't continue over to Fable II.
The main advantage to the digital is you don't have to put a disc in, possibly slightly better load times, and its convenient.
The main detriments of the digital copy is that it may be more expensive, it takes a significant amount of hard drive space 4gig+ (Big deal if you only have a 20), and you can't sell it or lend it out.
I finally chose a digital copy of Psychonauts simply because it was hard to find a physical one, the price difference really wasn't that great, and the resale/lending factor didn't amount to very much.
