Hopefully we will learn more at E3, I'm hoping for maybe a surprize release like what was done with Golden Axe and Sonic at the Microsoft E3 2007 Press Conference.

Looking over the Achievements, it looks like Geoms from Galaxies will be included in this game. Also looks like there will be different levels by the way the Achievements label certain names. Waves was a Geometry Wars mini game in PGR4 and it is also mentioned on the list.

Not a lot of info yet, I am hoping we learn more soon.

Wait, how do we know what the achievements are but it hasn't been confirmed? I think it's pretty obvious that a sequel is coming but it's kind of odd.

I doubt SSFIIT HD is ever coming out so I'm going to stop saving my points for that and spend them on Geo Wars 2 if it comes out before SF.

I don't look forward to many Arcade games, but damn I want this now!

At $5 the first GW is STILL the game that I have spent the most time with on my 360. It just screams pure simple gaming goodness to me.
this game will be awesome IF it's at $5, any higher and it will lose its touch.
I disagree and I'd be willing to pay more than $5 for this. $5 was a steal for Geometry Wars and I don't expect to get that great of a deal on this one. I would've happily paid more for it.

Achieve360points.com usually finds Achievements way before some games are even announced. I believe MS has never officially stated the GW 2 exists

Coming in next week @ 800 pts:

Game modes:

Deadline

The first mode is Deadline. This is also the mode which is unlocked in the trial version of the game (both single and multiplayer). The idea is simple: score as many points as you can in 3 minutes. You have as many lives as you want, but of course if you die a lot then you won't be scoring as many points as the next guy. You also have bombs, but these are limited (you start with three).

Destroyed enemies drop Geoms (little glittery yellow things) which you can pick up by driving your ship over them. These Geoms increase your score multiplier, so grab as many of these as you possibly can! Every game mode has Geoms, and you should always pick them up. I can't stress this enough: pick up the Geoms to score big! Your multiplier is no longer capped at 10x either, so having multipliers of many thousands is quite normal (if you're good enough)!

King

This mode is easy to explain, but very tactical once you start to really get into it. Again the premise is very basic: circular "zones" appear all over the grid. You can drive into these zones, and whilst inside them you are safe (the enemies can't enter the zones). You can shoot outwards, destroying the baddies outside your zone. However (and it's a big HOWEVER), after a short time the zone will collapse and you'll be left exposed. Whilst outside a zone you can't shoot at all, meaning that you had better hot foot it to another zone as quickly as you can!

Try to collect a bunch of Geoms as you move between the zones. If you're playing with a friend in co-operative mode, try this tactic: one of you stay inside the zone shooting outward, whilst the second player collects the fallen Geoms. Then swap when the zone decays. That's the trick to scoring big in co-op!

Evolved

You can think of Evolved as a super charged version of Retro Evolved 1. You start with three lives and three bombs, and you keep playing until those lives run out. There are quite a few changes this time though ... here's the short list:

New enemies make an appearance, like the gates, rockets, etc.
Overall balance has been changed, so the game gets more exciting after a shorter amount of time (no more spending the first three minutes of the game waiting for it to get intense!)
No more multiple weapon types. We nuked the first "starter" weapon from GWRE1, as well as the big, slow gun. The only weapon that you'll use throughout GWRE2 is a tweaked version of the faster-firing weapon (which was pretty much the fan favourite to begin with anyway).
Tiny spinners (the little purple guys which split from the big spinners) no longer track the player. They stay rotating in one spot, acting more like a "blocker" than a normal "follower" type enemy.
Gravity wells now destroy enemies on exploding! Not only that, but it'll give you 5x the score for the privilege! Gravity Wells should now be a priority to take out when things get busy. Note: destroying enemies in gate explosions (and bouncing bullets off of gates) also gives the same 5x score bonus.
Repulsars have a new look, and slightly changed behaviour. They no longer repulse your bullets, but they are still only vulnerable from the backside.
Lives and bombs are still given once you reach a set score, but this time the gap between them gets exponentially larger each time. In other words the first extra life/bomb is given at 100,000, then the second at 10 times this amount, and the third at 10 times that amount.
Of course, "Snake spawn" is no longer an issue. :)

Pacifism

Everybody remembers the Pacifism achievement from Retro Evolved 1. At the time it was hailed as the first of a new breed, encouraging a different way of looking at the game. Well we couldn't just leave pacifism in the past ... in GWRE2 it's been promoted into a full game mode of its own. Yay!

As you might have already guessed, you can't shoot whilst playing Pacifism. Oh, and you only get one life and no bombs. The only offense you have against the infinite blue shapes is to drive through the gates (a new enemy type), which triggers a big explosion deadly to the bad guys. Driving through multiple gates in a row will give you bonus points, so try to chain together as many as you can without stopping.

One word of warning: avoid the deadly yellow gate ends! Make sure you drive straight through the middle of the gate, without touching the sides!

Waves

If you've played the hidden Geometry Wars mini-game in PGR4, then you'll have an idea of what to expect here. The Waves game mode gives you one life (and again, no bombs), and asks you to survive as long as possible against wave after wave of incoming rockets. The rockets travel either horizontally or vertically, so you'll need to pick your route through them carefully in order to come out the other side unscathed.

If you're having trouble mastering Waves, bring some friends along and quadruple your firepower. Oh and check out the Surf achievement, where you must stay alive for 8 wave spawns without firing a shot. Sound tough? It is!!

Sequence

The final game mode is Sequence ... and this is one for the professionals. There are 20 levels, and the aim of the game is to make it through all twenty without dying. On the plus side, each wave is identical every time you play ... so if you remember the spawns then you'll be at a great advantage. The bad news is that each wave is pretty freakin' hard, and you only start with a set number of lives and bombs to do them all with.

Every level must be completed in 30 seconds, and if you lose a life you skip to the next level (thus forfeiting the points you could have scored if you had stayed alive).

Sequence gets interesting in multiplayer, especially when you're playing competitively to beat each others scores. More devious players might experiment with the green Weaver enemies ... try pushing them into another player to kill them off early in the level! When one of you dies you have to sit out for the remainder of the time, meaning your opponents can really score big whilst you're on the sidelines. Ouch!

I hope the achievements aren't as impossible to get this time around. I played so much but I suck so I only got 60/200. The 1,000,000 without dying is just nuts.

Definitely picking this baby up, the new game modes sound awesome. Sadly it's only Local but I understand why didn't bother with the online multiplayer.

This game is awesome, I got to play it today at comic-con, it was amazing, the multiplayer is really fun, except that you can't play over live which is disappointing,
The graphics are much nicer but it also makes it harder to keep track of things with special effects flying all over the screen, I only got to like 250k there playing like 3 games, King was really fun also, you have to get into the circles to be able to shoot, and when the circles disappear you have to move to the next one without hitting anything since you can't shoot outside of the circle, I'm definitely getting this.

That's a darn shame about no online multiplayer, then again what action/shooter arcade game has gotten the netcode right so far?

Defiantly picking this thing up ASAP.
bizarre said even the slighest lag would make the game unplayable at least they have co op in some form:bouncy:
Yeah, I could definitely see that. Still a shame though. Very excited to play this. I think $10 is still a steal. I was happy paying $40 for GW: Galaxies on the Wii.
Wow the search button sucks on this forum.....Anyway I'm a little pissed that this game is 800 points but I will still pick it up
Really? I don't see why you be pissed about the 800 points. It has games 6 games mode plus 4 player co op multiplayer, what more can you ask for. It's totally worth the 800 points.

It has 4 player LOCAL multiplayer, not online. The first one was 400 points and this one isnt that much of an adventure from the first one. The multiplayer is pointless

again bizarre said the game would be unplayble with the slightest lag since theres too much stuff going on and it wasnt worth adding in online when it wouldnt work for this type of game in the 1st place
they also tried making it 400 points

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12116156&postcount=101
Yeah I realise that it's quite a jump from 400 to 800, but to be honest I think the 400 MSP price point for a game like GWRE was pushing it anyway. It would have been really nice to get the sequel out there for the same price (trust me, we tried), but it wasn't to be. And when you take a step back and look at what you're getting... well, it's 6 times the content as the original + multiplayer on top.

If you're unsure, just check out the trial version - it includes the full Deadline game mode for both single and 4pl multiplayer...

It's offline multiplayer. No lag. That's why online won't work.

My problem is that I don't have any shooting friend buddies who will play. If I talk it up enough, they'll play for 5 minutes, get killed quickly, and then just say the game sucks. To each their own, but no online multiplayer practically makes this a no multiplayer game to me.

This is probably a day 1 purchase for me. Just dropped $20 on BlastWorks though on the Wii. Can't see giving 2 shooting games much time, so I'll have to think this one out.

so there is multiplayer.....
at least they even bothered to add multiplayer in some form

So when do arcade games go up on the marketplace? If it's early enough in the day I might try to download it and try it out for a few minutes before I go to work.

Also, it seems strange that there aren't any reviews yet. Do reviewers not get arcade games earlier than everyone else? Not that reviews will stop me from downloading this, but I'm just curious as to just how good this game will be.

I give it a 9.5/10 I got to play it and it was really great, it has everything the first one didn't, improved graphics, awesome music to keep you pumped, I also noticed that this one gets you into the action much quicker than starting off with nothing in the beginning, It has a lot more modes to play on, king was really fun, except no online multiplayer but that's hard to accomplish with the pace of this game. Oh and when you are playing with multiple people it's really easy to mistake your teammates with enemies, it won't affect your gameplay much, but with all this shiny stuff flying around on your screen it gets really crazy.,

Just played it, I got to say it's amazing, and the achievements are really easy, I manged to get 7/12 in around 40 minutes, I can do 4 others tomorrow, it's too late now, and there's one that seems to be a riddle.

I decided to only DL the demo this morning (so I won't be tempted to play too much and be late) and I already got over a million points in Deadline! I wish that was as impressive as saying it about Retro Evolved. :D

I like the new visual upgrade and there are some new enemies I didn't recognize because I haven't played any Geometry Wars game outside of XBLA. When I get home from work I'll be sure to DL the full game immediately.

Wow, they did so much with the basic mechanics of the game. Even the more basic modes like Evolved and Deadline feel totally fresh. Love the music and the major graphical overhaul. I really didn't expect to see all the really cool Live integration and the more in-depth score tracking, but it's something that I always wanted out of the first one. I actually lost track of time for over an hour trying to get to the end of Sequence...the most I could manage was level 19.

I think this one could really win over a lot of people who weren't into the first game. I know the biggest complaints I'd heard was the lack of modes and the unforgiving difficulty and both are no longer an issue here.

I thought Galaxies was great, but this feels like so much more of a sequel and a genuine evolution in gameplay. Not to mention it's 1/5th (or 1/3rd) the price. I can't wait until my friends leaderboard fills up with scores to beat.

Absolutely love it, most addicting and fun game I've gotten off XBLA since Pac-Man CE.

Already acquired all but around 3 or 4 achievements.

I'm loving it so far. 6 modes, and they're ALL fun. That is quite a feat. :) The music rocks too!

and hey.. I'm 125 on the King leaderboard! At least until more people play it.
