XBLA - Gunstar Heroes - 400pts

As little as 400 points is and as much as I like this game I was really hoping on some graphical improvements, I mean just some higher res sprites. This is going to look really bad on moderate size TV's.

Damn, not only did we get Gunstar Heroes at 400, but they released: Altered Beast, Sonic 3, Shinobi (i forget which one), Fantasy Star I & II, & Comix Zone all today for 400pts each.

its the arcade version of Shinobi which still makes me scratch my head

Are you surprised by this? This was announced around E3 last week

I knew that they were announced but last I heard, only Gunstar Heroes was supposed to be released today...I figured that they scatter their release. Now I'm just waiting for Sonic & Knuckles.

Same. I have all of these on genesis or virtual console on wii. Only one I might get other than Gunstar Heroes is Altered Beast.

The game definitely isn't as much fun as I remember it being. I really don't remember being able to throw your partner, and that made my brother ragequit and declare hatred on the game. I will definitely finish it up on my own though, just not quite as good as I remember it being.
Aren't all of these on that Sega bundle disc they put out a few months back?
yeah, Gunstar Heroes is new and through these releases, you can do the link between Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles

Do the new Sega Vintage games allow you to save anywhere? I've got my points ready to pick up Gunstar Heroes, but i'm curious...
I'm not excited for anything besides Gunstar. Why pay $5 each for those other games when they're all on Sonic's UGC?
There are many reasons why people would pay separately for each game. I'm not since I already bought the collection. Some people aren't in the know about the UGC. I mean, I found out about it through CAG, lol...

Then there's wanting only to own the games you want. I know people that will buy a Namco Collection game and only play Pac-Man.

Love the game every time I play it! I wish Sega could have come up with better achievements. I would have liked a little bit of challenge...

This game has some of the easiest achievements I've seen in a while...I guess all of the Sega Vintage Collection games do. Already have 200/200 on it - only one even worth mentioning is the Crab Attack one, but only because you have to play through the Underground Mine stage on Hard.

Anyhoo...picked this up along with Phantasy Star II. Might bite on Sonic 3. Along with Wolfenstein last week for 400 points, we've been getting some pretty solid, cheap games lately.

And to anyone asking why someone would buy these at 5 a pop instead of getting the genesis collection disc...well, I can at least give my point of view. I have that disc as well, but I enjoy achievement collecting, so getting another 200 for playing through Phantasy Star II seems worth it. Not to mention, the collection disc doesn't add online play to the games, unless I'm mistaken. Even if it's kinda boring, it's still nice to know you could play competitive Sonic 2 over Xbox Live, or any of the other co-op like games. And yes, when Sonic and Knuckles comes out, it's gonna be fun to play through Sonic 2 and 3 with Knuckles again. I also like to support a game if it's fairly decent and only 400 points, because god knows they've been boning us on a lot of really crappy 800 point games lately.

Also, the Genesis Collection has Mean Bean Machine on it, which basically knocks the value of that disc down by quite a large magnitude...
Nope, got it on Normal
Really, is it random to fight him then? My first playthrough was on Easy, and he didn't show up. My second time on Normal, he also didn't appear. He didn't appear for me during the boss sequence until I put it on Hard. Oh well.

I bought it this morning, and after about...100 minutes or so I had all 200g. I tried the Underground Mine on Normal first and got the Crab Battle on my first try, so that was nice.

Still a fun game, although I doubt I'll be able to find a whole lot of people playing it online.

Ok, is this demo broken or am I dumb? Whenever a powerup or a heart would drop I can't pick it up. There are only 3 buttons to use and I tried hitting them all, and checked to see that "Y" was the right one...

What the hell?

Don't you have to push down to pick stuff up? I haven't played this in a year or two since I got it on the PS2, but my logic says that if the buttons don't work then it is more than likely a directional button. Sometimes a button accompanying a directional button.

Also is there nothing in the games menu that tells you controls for such things? Usually there are, but I wouldn't know about this game since I haven't played the demo of it.

PRO-TIPS

Down+Attack to pick up items.
Half-circle forward then Attack for a sliding charge.
Hold Jump+Attack to block.

Just finished the game yesterday. Last level was a bit tough. Really had to have the right tools but Lightining+Flame eats Gold Silvers health like termites at home depot.

I'm finally going to be able to get some points and download this game. Yes, I know it's only $5, but I've had a lot of expenses lately.

Wow, I must be losing my old school gaming skills. It was just down+attack to pick up an item.

Pretty awesome game. Defiantly worth the $5.

I have a question about the Rankings score. I beat Gunstar Heroes this morning (on Easy) with a score of something like 100,000, but my ranking didn't reflect that. Instead it was something like 9,000 which I'm guessing was from a previous game. Was it because I was playing on Easy?

BTW awesome game. I've always wanted to beat this. My big problem is with Co-Op. I was playing with a buddy and we kept accedently throwing each other around. SO I decided to try it on solo and found it much easier.
