One of the main issues I find with Microsoft's approach to the GoD thing is the prices they charge. They charge more for a GoD version of something than I can buy it new from Amazon or eBay and have a physical version shipped directly to me.

Microsoft needs to be aware of what other prices the same games are available for and then compete with those prices. If you want to factor used games into the mix as well, on my local craigslist right now, the same copy of Fallout they had on sale recently, I can get used for 10 bucks complete. I also figure I could offer them a bit less and get it for even cheaper. I also would far rather own a physical media version on disc than something download only.

Obviously I don't expect Microsoft to compete with used game prices for new downloadable games. However they at least need to compete with prices for the same game new from other retailers. Amazon, Newegg and eBay being prime examples of places I'm sure all of us go for games these days.

Microsoft's GoD prices are high because they need to keep up the appearance that Xbox games are "premium" entertainment, not throwaway diversions like iPhone games - they don't actually expect to make money from this venture in the short term. That's part of the reason why those games are listed in US currency by default: $29.99 sounds affordable for a video game, but you would balk if it cost 3200 MSP even though they're the same. They have to condition us to continue paying higher prices for video games compared to similar forms of entertainment.

Think about this: after Xbox 360, what will be the media format they adopt? PS3 will still be on the market for a couple more years, and Microsoft would be reluctant to adopt blu-ray - they're banking on digital distribution. That's the reason they've begun an enormous push for your living room with Netflix, ESPN, Facebook, and later this year, broadcast television and YouTube. When the broadband pipe widens in the coming years, Microsoft wants to be there. And they're betting that game publishers will want to ride that train too, what with zero piracy and secondhand sales, and longer shelf lives for their products.

Actually, no they're not. 3200 MSP = $40. Not to say you're wrong with your point in general though, as I have no issue paying $15 for a game, but when it's 1200 msp points, I do take a step back.
I agree. Giving me some free DLC is the best way to get me to pay for more.
That's what drug dealers do.
It works though.

Giving me free drugs is the best way to get me to pay for pizza delivery.

MS doesn't care about being competitive with Games on Demand. I've even been in a position where someone bought me some MS Points so I overpaid for a Game on Demand simply because free on my end was less expensive than saving $5 or $10 for the physical media.

I know this is very anti-CAG but I am sure it's situations like this that drive a lot of the sales.

I'm in the same boat with that. Happened a couple years back. I bought Burnout Revenge on GoD because someone got me a point card. I feel so ashamed.

Only GoD purchase I ever made was for Beautiful Katamari since the $20 GoD price was a lot cheaper than anywhere that had the physical media at the time. I still haven't really played it though because every time I do it bugs me that I don't have a physical copy.

It appears that GoD is the only place to buy Gears of War for the PC. Wish I could find it somewhere else for cheaper than $20 - it's been out for so long, you'd think it would be cheaper somewhere... :(

Picked up the Core and Marvel packs for Pinball Fx 2. Absolutely loving this game, and these packs. Still debating on the classic pack, but leaning toward no for the time being.

Thinking I should pick up some individual tables. How often, if at all, are they on sale? I'm aware the paranormal table was free a few weeks ago (I should have grabbed it), but sorcerers lair, mars, paranormal all look pretty awesome from their youtube vids.

$10 sales won't change that at all. It's a way to get people to check out that section of the marketplace and possibly buy more in the future if the pricing is more attractive to them. The launch-era games should be aggressively priced since their appeal is very limited at this point in the system's life and that would be a good entry point into the service, as well.

I bought Full House Poker Friday, and I have to say it's probably the best $5 I've spent. It's really fun playing with friends and even playing against random people, but the best part is definitely the Texas Heat game show. It reminds of 1 vs 100 with the announcer and the competition to get to the top so everyone can see you. I'm thinking about buying Beyond good and evil HD tomorrow, but I haven't played the original on the xbox original, do any of you guys recommend it? its only 240msp so i might even buy it anyways because it's only $3.

BG&E is definitely worth it. 3 dollars is one of the biggest steals in XBLA history imo. Its one of the best last gen games ever. The story is fantastic and thats the most important thing. The HD upgrade is gorgeous. Its fun and if you're a gamer, you owe it to yourself to play it.

I'm a sucker for collecting (which is why my backlog is in the hundreds), so I had to pick up all three packs.

I'm loving the tables too.

If anyone wants to send a friend request to help with achievements, my gamertag is the same as here (JKIMREY). I'm not very good, so it will probably make you feel better about your high scores. ;)

Right now, I've been focusing on the Spider-Man table.
The reason Games on Demand is priced so high is that MS doesn't want to offend the B&M retailers.
It shouldn't be an issues for games that they no longer carry.
How is the single player for The Da Vinci Disappearance? Thinking about nabbing and playing it before revelations...
I don't own it, but based on the research I've done to try and decide if I should buy the DLC it sounds like the singleplayer is pretty lightweight and it's more about the multiplayer additions.

Eh, screw it. I'll check it out.
I picked up MvC2 at the last minute last night. If nothing else it should be fun trying out all the different characters' moves....I was originally thinking of just waiting for a great sale on MvC3, but after reading the comments here and watching a few videos, the successor didn't seem all that impressive.

After a second demoing of all the tables, I'm finding the Marvel pack collectively the best (with the Blade table being the standout).
I missed out on the MvC2 deal because I stupidly didn't see that it was only on BF. I can always play it on Xbox1 or via emulators but it would've been nice with the 360 and over Xbox Live.

I did pick up the Marvel tables for Pinball FX2. Pinball and superheroes? how can you go wrong???
The reason Games on Demand is priced so high is that MS doesn't want to offend the B&M retailers.
I don't buy that for a second when there are so many very good deals on retail games on PSN and Steam.

I paid full price for it and loved it. It has one of the cooler stories in Brotherhood and a great tomb area. Great stuff, definitely worth 400 pts if your an AC fan.

Thank you! I don't have Brotherhood (yet) and was debating whether I should pick it up now or hope for another sale. I think you just talked me into a purchase :D

So is Beyond Good & Evil and the three bad games are all that are going on sale tomorrow? Already have it on the PSN, if that's the case, there won't be anything for me to get tomorrow. Here hoping next week sale is actually good this time.

Need more than 1600 points to get all I want, but don't wanna spend ~$40 for 3200 (nevermind that I should stock up when 4000 points go for $40...). Where can I find the 800 3-packs?

I will attempt to answer my own question in the meantime :p

I'm sure Valve doesn't have much to worry about in the retail market.

Maybe Sony has different deals with retailers. Also, they have more pull with their other electronics. What does MS have? Office products and Windows? When was the last time you walked into a B&M store for those?

I thought we weren't supposed to discuss piracy in the forums. ;)
Oh. Then what's the appeal of buying them? Just the unique amount of points?
That you get 3 separate 800 point cards. Good for gift giving / stocking stuffers for in-laws for me.

Ha. Beyond piracy, most people pick those up for deep discounts online, or in some sort of bundle with a new pc.

Also, I won't get to the OP until after lunch tomorrow.

Anybody know when the black Friday sales went live? I would like to dl bg&e before I went to bed tonight. I have a really busy day tomorrow and I don't want to miss out!

They went live around 3:50am CST for me; so you can probably expect the cyber monday deals to be live between 3:50 and 6:00am CST.

I just bought BG&E:HD from the website for 240.

Link

Searched for it and it showed 240, clicked on it and it showed 800, clicked on it to download and it was back to 240. All good.

It appears the Cyber Monday deals are LIVE! Just hit download and it should show the new price before you confirm.

Edit: Just bought Risk and Beyond Good and Evil!
