I don't like the new dash all that much either. I'm in the beta and we still have a tab called "pre-release", hopefully that gets updated and removed soon. I guess I don't have the most recent version, is the "Video" tab still in front of the "Games" tab? If so, I find that to be fucking ridiculous. Let's see, did I buy my Xbox to watch videos or play games? Also, the way arcade games that I own are listed now is really really bad.
Yes, what you saw in the last beta build is darn-close to what will be in the final firmware ... and yes, that means "video" comes before "games" (since the 360 is now a MEDIA device. Agreed on the order of XBLA games showing in alphabetical order with big/massive tiles ... it's fairly stupid & insulting to gamers, and we should remain vigilant on them for this design lacking forethought.

However, I think they pulled the update for awhile, since servers were hammered when the dash was initially deployed Tuesday night, and now they're scrambling to find sufficient resources to host the massive download.
Does anyone know if Texas Hold'em is a permanent price drop? I have this on disc and would like to download it for convenience but if it's a permanent drop I'll wait.
"Full House Poker" is now the MS-blessed version (especially with WP7 integration), and I strongly doubt anyone in Xbox even remembers "Texas Hold 'Em". Your copy on disc is a great value already! :)

I second all of this.

And speaking of video on the Xbox, is it just me or does the video quality for the new Netflix app seem grainier and the colors look more washed-out?

Damn. Figures Outland would go on sale after my Gamertag was just hacked and now I have to wait 2-6 weeks while MS suspends my account and investigates. I bet all the games I have been waiting for will go on sale in the next 2-6 weeks. Bloodrayne, Limbo (missed that one day sale), Rush 'N Attack Ex-Patriot (I liked the demo, but not for full price); watch them all go on sale.

I suppose I could set up a secondary account but all my points are on the suspended account. ahh well, c'est la vie.

Nah, just wait it out ... this is the 2nd time Outland has come up, and you'll probably see it again in early 2012, just like "Risk:Factions" again. :)

it seems to be looking fine, now with subtitles which previous version of netflix did not have. That is great thing!!

And custom wallpaper looks great in it as good as any premium theme.

back to topic...looks like next arcade game will be sonic cd..

SUBTITLES?!?!?!? Oh man, I need to get Netflix back ASAP. Are they universal subtitles or does it depend on what you're watching? And I mean English subtitles for English programming, not the mandatory subtitles they have for foreign films.
they are there. In english subtitle or english subtitle with CC.

First show I had to try quick was power rangers LOL!!
CC support? They should be advertising that. I don't think the Hulu Plus app has that yet. The update made me lose my Netflix credentials which is bad because my friend was letting me have my Xbox be one of the machines on her account, and I'd hate to ask her for it again.

Damn I still can't update. 6 am on the west coast and it won't download. Keep getting attempt 2 of 3 then 3 of 3, then an update failure notice and a notice to check my connection.

Screw you microsoft and your damn unneccessary updates!

Damn unnecessary? This is a major update to the dashboard and is hardly trivial.

I live in San Diego and got it to work last night maybe 10-11 PM though since I am using a new console, I can only download through the Xbox. For some reason, the queue I do through Xbox.com shows up on my Xbox as assigned to another console even when I can download games I just bought yesterday.

Select a reassigned item and reassign all to that xbox. It will work from then on.

"Non-trivial" and "necessary" do not mean the same thing.

I picked up the new Defense Grid DLC this morning. Have I played it? No, because when the game tries to update, it can't and sends me right back to the dashboard.
If I can only get one right now due to limited MSP, should I get Outland or Geometry Wars?
Both are great, but I simply can't recommend 'Geometry Wars' enough. Many, many, many hours have been put into that game.
If I can only get one right now due to limited MSP, should I get Outland or Geometry Wars?
Geometry Wars 1 or 2? I wouldn't bother with 1 and just go straight to 2, so I'd pick Outland over GW1.
If I can only get one right now due to limited MSP, should I get Outland or Geometry Wars?
I feel like Outland has more of an "experience" and would lean towards that myself, but I own both. GW2 might be better if you know you have a lot of people on your friends list to compare/beat scores of.
If I can only get one right now due to limited MSP, should I get Outland or Geometry Wars?
Outland. If you're SUPER into twin stick shooters, you can get a lot of fun out of GW2. But I definitely got more time and enjoyment out of Outland.
"Non-trivial" and "necessary" do not mean the same thing.
Exactly, just because it's a major overhaul, doesn't mean it's something that needed to be done. If it isn't broke, why fix it?
They didn't "fix" anything, they changed it. I think the main reason they did this is so you can navigate with kinect.
Uh...
What in the hell is Bloody Good Time and is it good? The screenshots of it look weird as shit.
It's kind of a weird 1st person shooter, if I remember the demo correctly. There are traps and stuff too that you can use to kill people as well. There's no campaign or anything, just games versus bots or online games, which I'm sure are few and far between.

I'd say check out the demo. I think I'm gonna get it tonight, I rarely pass up 200 point games that aren't Sega Collection re-hashes.
I picked up the new Defense Grid DLC this morning. Have I played it? No, because when the game tries to update, it can't and sends me right back to the dashboard.
Wow, didn't even know about that DLC. Will definitely be picking it up, though! I loved Defense Grid and the addition of GLaDOS sounds like a delightful mix of "WTF" and "Awesome".
Any word on a release date for Sonic CD?
As soon as a date is announced, I'll post it in the Sonic CD thread and write a story about it for WPCentral. If I haven't done that yet, there's no date yet.
Uh...
Uh what?

You don't think that navigation on a touchscreen phone and on the kinect (pictured in the photo by the way) is similar? What do you mean uh? You don't think that they put the words for the categories on top of the dash so you could say a word that is on the screen for the kinect to recognize? Please tell me what your uh means.
Uh...
It amazes me that MS's new approach to UI design is simply just "lots of big buttons."
U mad, brah?

The "main reason" for the change is because MS is giving all their devices the Metro UI.
Care to answer the other questions in my post?

Yeah, the new dashboard is not more useful or easy to navigate, in fact, my wife hates it. It's really designed to be used with kinect, hence the front facing panels like on a touch screen.

Doesnt the new dashboard make your avatar pretty much useless?
The first tab is the games tab, I pretty much 90% of the time never leave that tab, So Ill never see the avatar / prop animation unless I specifically move over to that tab just to see it.
I picked up the new Defense Grid DLC this morning. Have I played it? No, because when the game tries to update, it can't and sends me right back to the dashboard.
The update might not be available yet. You Monster is supposed to have new achievements, and the Defense Grid achievement list (at least on xbox.com) hasn't been updated. Unless You Monster is supposed to be listed as a separate game, though other sites (Xbox360Achievements, TrueAchievements) haven't picked up on a separate title.

Microsoft's probably giving priority to getting the new dashboard out, and all the issues that have come with it. Funny to imagine the griping if they tried the dashboard rollout next week when the next Gears 3 DLC drops, and had the same kind of problems.

I may just pick up You Monster at full price, once it's confirmed to be working, as well as the other maps. Keep going back and forth on the older DLC, they're just $1 each vs. as soon as you buy them, they'll get marked down (despite the rarity of XBLA DLC sales). May as well just take the plunge. Definitely enjoyed the main game enough.

I find the new UI easier to navigate. Also I really like the ability to have my profile on more than one Xbox at the same time, as well as cloud saves, but that's not something everyone will take advantage of. We have 2 Xboxes, so for me it's a big plus.

I do wish that cloud storage of saves were backed up locally, though. I can do it manually, but it really ought to do it automatically. Rather, play off of the drive, but sync to the cloud. Or something like that.

Overall I like the update quite a bit.
At least put it on sale before delisting! I would have bought for 400msp (maybe).
Ditto. I don't understand why the publishers don't advertise the delistings. "Get this in the next 7 days, before it disappears" is sure to get a few extra sales. Putting it on discount would get even more.

From reviews, this game probably wasn't even worth $5, so it's no major loss. But still, I would have heavily considered it at $5, knowing it was going away.

you really do have to let go of old habits to embrace how it's done now. it's just the anxiety of totally changing everything. the only familiar thing is the guide menu and that even has some changes. People talk about how the old blades dashboard was intuitive to them. But that's because they were used to it. I didn't get a 360 until 2009 when the blades dashboard was gone. Before that, I had played at my friends' places and at the store and the blade design confused me. I'd just tell my friend to just load the damn game. It's not intuitive at all but people got used to its design.

like my friend was griping about how slow it was to move around the new dashboard via the thumbstick but I told him to use the bumpers and he felt sheepish afterward.

and then he'd rattle off one gripe after another and then I told him how it's supposed to be done in the new dash. and then he was starting to feel comfortable after he knew how to do things. a lot of people are so used to familiarity even if familiarity is less efficient.

I was lucky as I've had over a month to play with the dashboard (I was in the beta dashboard program).
Where is the deal of the week section of the dash I cant find it on the new ass dashboard
On the top right corner of the games tab. I missed it at first because it says Modern Heroes in the place that text is on every other box. You have to actually look at the picture to see Sales & Specials... I feel like somebody didn't think that through.

EDIT: Also, while I dislike the giant boxes representing my arcade, installed, and indie games (also, you can bumper through that to move faster). I do like the fact that it loads the list of games instantly compared to the 5 - 10 seconds it took on the old dashboard. If anything this Dashboard does run faster.

I didn't think it loaded my games list faster at all (I'm still on the beta one, so maybe the new one does). How many Arcade games do you have? I'm at about 110

Hey everyone, site is a little weird and the promised phone call never came but I did just get Joust for a whopping $0.49, if anyone is interested:

Had a month to play with the dashboard, and I've grown to dislike it more rather than less. Basically the novelty of voice activation for most everything wore off but everything else just got more annoying.

Then they broke Netflix.

I have 44 right now. While the very first time (on system start up) it takes a little while, after that it is instant. With the old dashboard it always look as long as the first time after system start... even if I quit out and entered the page again.

So the first time it loads the games list is about the same, but from then on it is considerably faster.
