Yeah, I quite out of Daily Motion pretty quick. On top of all that, the video quality just plain sucked on the two videos I did try and the search engine was horrible.
yeah, I've tried all of the apps (which for some reason you have to download, then install an update for every single one, and they seemed to download slower than most things I dl on xbox live that are bigger size... for some reason) and dailymotion was the only one that was at all a potentially good app, but the ridiculously slow load speeds / navigating the menus and searching for videos is just too much. and I also noticed the terrible quality in videos that I can watch in HD on youtube, (idk if there's a way to stream in HD through dailymotion app but if not then it's pointless to even watch most videos, the quality is just too horrendous otherwise).

here's hoping the youtube app will be good. and aren't they supposed to eventually have a way to run my cable through the 360? would love to get rid of this comcast cable box thing, and eliminate having to push my source button on the remote 7 times to go from tv to xbox everytime i wanna switch between the two.

Nothing seems to really be streaming in HD anymore, even Netflix. Among other things, the update seems to make video start streaming at a low bitrate which reduces the buffer time but can sometimes have you watching a 1:30 clip where the first 15 seconds go from blury to not blury. Quite annoying. From a UI and technical stand point I think this update was a failure. It needed at least 2-3 more months of work.

Thank you! I knew I couldn't have been the only one to notice that. Everything on Netflix has been grainy and washed out since they launched the new app.
It's a shame because I like the new features of the app: subtitles and bringing up the next episode menu when the credits start rolling. But I didn't want to sacrifice decent video quality for it all.

From Dust is pretty interesting. Haven't played too many games like it.

Bloody Good Time is complete crap though. I regret spending 200 points on it.
I am calling it right now; free apps will be largely useless (except maybe YouTube), the useful apps will all cost money in some form.
Absolutely. Xbox Live will be all about premium services and the Xbox Live fee will be the fee to get in the door. Everything else that will be of any value will cost extra. Sure they will have a couple freebies here and there but as you stated, those will most likely be useless or severely limited. Anything of real value will have a price tag attached to it. This is how MS planned it from the beginning as thier vision for the 360 has always been that of a set top box/entertainment hub. Its just taken awhile for it to actually evolve into that sort of device. They have 40 additional partners joining Xbox live in the coming months and you can bet that more will continually be added as time goes on. By the time the next XBox hits store shelves...well, there will be very few things you cant do with an Xbox. It will be exacty the sort of device that MS engineers thought up when they first launched the service. Its been a very deliberate path and a very successful one at that. A lot of people in the industry thought Xbox Live would be a total failure. It didn't fail. In fact, its become one of MS's biggest success stories over the last decade. People have shown that they have no problem paying for a premium online service, even when a free one is available from a competitor

I mysefl am extremely interested to see what MS has in store for Xbox Live in the future. My monthly cable TV bill is ridiculously high and I watch maybe 6 channels on a regular basis. Its a total waste of money. So I love the idea of individual channels being made available through Xbox Live. It has a lot of potential if done properly. I have absolutely no interest in having 100+ channels on my TV. Give me the few channels I actually watch and I would dump my cable company in a second.
When will the xbox year end deals start this year? The 21st?
Don't know, maybe we'll find out Tuesday. Altho to be fair, we havent received any confirmation that we'll even get deals this year, tho im sure we will

Can anyone else echo in on the Assassin's Creed DLC? I'm looking to start part 2, and need to do if the DLCs are even worth it. Do they complete part 2 better on the way to Brotherhood? Already planning on getting Da Vinci

I know you said you haven't started it yet, and time is a factor here, but it really does kind of depend on how much you like the game. The gameplay really is more of the same, so your enjoyment of one will mirror the other. I will say that story-wise, if you skip the DLC, you will not be lost going into Brotherhood. It just kind of fills in a big gap in the timeline that pops up in the third act of the game. The reason it's not in the game to begin with is it's kind of tangential to the overall story.

That said, I enjoyed them. The story is interesting, even if it is only a side-story. The Secret Locations that come with Bonfire are a great bonus too. And I'd say the price is right. I hope that helps.

It has happened pretty much every year so it definitely will be coming. My hope is that Bastion shows up as one of the titles like previous years that featured the summer sale titles.

This. I got rid of my cable/dish a while ago for this exact reason. The old pay for 1000 channels to get the few you want is ridiculous.

I'd love to pay for just a few channels as well but cable companies don't sell you channels a la carte on purpose because they know it'd end up in less revenue. It seems the Verizon FiOS and other live TV services will only supplement existing subscribers and not be a path to cheaper cable TV. At this point anyway it is very disappointing to me.

I agree. Cable is stupid expensive and I would take a cheaper alternative in a heartbeat, such as on demand xfinity combined w/ netflix and free ESPN I am good. I am curious about HBOGO as well. That would provide what I want regarding tv shows, movies, and sports for far less than what I pay now for cable.

I also expect some of the apps to have a monthly rate like netflix. Why would they give us free HBOGO, cable/xfinity and other premium services for almost nothing. I end up paying less than 3 dollars a month on xbox live, so I do not expect to get free cable, netflix, hulu plus, etc with such a low entry fee. If the price is reasonable I am in. But if they overprice than of course I will be dissapointed. I feel Hulu is overpriced and only because only a portion of the shows I want are available.

Certain apps will always be (hopefully) free such as ESPN, MSNBC, youtube, dailymotion, heart radio, etc. There are a good selection of free content. Now, one can argue if none of this intrigues them, why not utilize resources on new IP's. There are always multiple sides to a discussion. As long as there are free apps and low cost entry fee I am excited for the possibilities.

On the topic of deals I am excited for the days leading up to new years! I freaking look forward to the daily deals! LOVE IT. Like someone mentioned above I would love to see Bastion, and half off of From Dust.

I don't want to poo poo anyone as this is a community of CAGs. but how is this Xbox Live TV talk related to this XBLA sales? shouldn't be in some other thread?

Could someone give me an idea of the difficulty level of Outland? I really enjoyed the demo, but would hate to buy it and find that the challenge ramps up to a level I would find irritating.

In the lull between sales some slightly off-topic stuff comes up here. It's usually not this "long" but it keeps the thread on the first page.

The bosses can be fairly challenging, but never to the point of irritating difficulty (for me, anyway). And how good are you at platformers? The final boss has a LOT of jumping/dodging/attacking and no checkpoint system, so if you get her down to 1 hit and die, you're doing it all over again.

The actual levels, I don't think you'll ever run into something overly challenging.

Well it was related at one point in time. And if you consider your post and my post as off topic, which it sort of is, then it is near impossible to truly have a thread with no off topic discussion.

I'm good at Mario platforming, not so much with the Mega Man level difficulty.

Not as hard as MM9. But for MM9 (and most 8-bit Mega Man games) you have to replay the levels a lot until you master some of the tougher jumps and encounters. You won't run into anything like that with Outland.

Anyone remember them talking at E3 about the gaming tournaments and spectator mode for games before the 360 launched. I know they were talking about doing it with Forza.

I think all the apps and entertainment stuff kinda feel into their lap with the way technology advanced since it was launched. Xbox Live was M$ trump card and I think they wanted to go into building a more complete competitive gaming community, but streaming and apps came along and really opened the doors for what the these devices could do.

What about the bosses, though? Let me know if I'm being annoying with this. I can never tell.

Hopefully the $5 sale for Bastion on Steam means it will be discounted on other platforms as well soon.

And with the new DLC coming on Dec 14, I'd say chances of a Bastion sale for year's-end are pretty good.

I find myself completely addicted to Heroes of Might and Magic and I've been super burned out on JRPGs lately. Definitely worth a pickup at this price.
What about the bosses, though? Let me know if I'm being annoying with this. I can never tell.
Most of the boss battles have phases (the last boss has 4 or more I think) and like I said, if you die, you start back over at phase one. So their difficult in that they require patience, but once you start getting patterns down, you'll get them eventually. It doesn't have as frustrating of difficulty as Super Meat Boy or the Splosion Man games, if you're familiar with those.

Honestly, I'd recommend watching a YouTube video of the final boss. You don't even need to watch all of it, and I don't think you'll spoil anything for yourself (there really isn't much of a story at all). It will give you an idea of the maximum difficulty of the game. And the game controls very smoothly, so you're not battling the controls at the same time you're battling the boss.

(I'd post the link, but then it embeds the video here. I can't figure out how to just post the link)

You're not being annoying, I enjoy talking about games I like. Outland has been my 2nd favorite arcade game to come out this year, I loved it. (#1 being Half Minute Hero: SMNC)

Good to know. Thank you. I passed on Super Meat Boy because everyone talked about how hard it was and I've yet to finish 'Splosion Man. Unless I see something I hate in the final boss video, I'll grab Outland. Half Minute Hero is my my "buy the second there's a sale" list.

During the summer when the sales were awful, I bought a 1600 point card from Toys R Us for $15 and forced myself to buy 2 games because I was starved for something new on XBLA. I got Half Minute Hero and Adventures of Shuggy and really enjoyed both of them. And I really lucked out because neither have seen a sale yet.

Outland's final boss is tough, but fair. Be prepared to die a lot, but you eventually figure out the pattern necessary to beat it. The rest of the game is not nearly as hard, and definitely not anything near Super Meat Boy difficulty. SMB is fantastic by the way. My personal favorite arcade game from a year ago. Don't be scared off by what others say. It's a must buy if it goes on sale for 400 points again.

I have so many unfinished games. When I think about paying full price for a new one, i just force myself to try and finish one I already have instead. I've got crazy self-diagnosed ADD :)

Me love you long time. Worth free! (I hope)

Couldn't remember my account name/password so I just signed in on my console to download. Had to kinda guess my way around but I found it a few pages in on the new release (I think) tab.

I wonder how long before someone makes a thread about this on the main deals forum? I hope they at least credit you with the find.

Turns out I picked up most of the Tom Clancy DLC last time it went on sale. I avoided the HAWX 1 and 2 DLC then to pinch pennies and will probably be skipping it and the Shaun White DLC yet again for the same reason. That, and they don't appear to offer anything substantial, or anything at all really, in regards to single-player/co-op content. Anyone who wishes to sway me, please speak.

When I tried to queue it up from the web site, it wanted a bunch of info (after I accepted the updated TOS). Might have wanted address information, didn't bother trying to translate the page. So I signed in on the 360. I thought I'd have to fumble around, but saw a section marked A-Z in the marketplace. Picked that and the buttons were English letters. Picked D, scrolled right until I got to the game and "bought" it.

so I made a japanese account, tried getting it from that link and it wont work, loaded the account to my 360 and tried tracking it down on the marketplace (which wasnt easy...) and all i can do is rate the game... what am i missing here? how do i get it ._.

edit: all i get is this from the website and an option to hit OK after it -

"お住まいの国や地域では、ご利用いただけません。"

It's Taiwanese, not Japanese, man.

Also, has anyone ever been banned for using fake information in accounts, playing a game from a foreign account, etc.?
