I'm not, but perhaps that is because my Xbox is at home and I am at work.

It was on my dashboard

Funny, I'm having the exact same problem.
Fruit ninja just had a free holiday update/dlc as well...

Just sayin...
All the games people are listing as with free DLC are MS published or very popular. MS rules don't apply to MS or to companies where if they made PS exclusives games everybody would notice.

What does it really matter if DLC is free or paid? If you want it, get it.
Has anyone seen the Family Gold Pack deal or are they not offering it this year?
Yes, it is not on the dash anymore, since before October, and it only lasts one week now. This month was Geo Wars. It's usually the first week of the month.
What does it really matter if DLC is free or paid? If you want it, get it.
It matters because it's free on the PC and the dev wants it to be free but MS won't let them.
What does it really matter if DLC is free or paid? If you want it, get it.
Um, do you have any idea where you are? Paid DLC costs money, free DLC doesn't. That is why it matters.

You didn't ask "can everything be free?" you asked why it matters to us whether or not it is.

Being free always matters.

Who are these people on CAG? What happened to my unapologetic Cheap Asses?

For those not seeing the deals you have click ON THE AD itself.

Also, somebody either needs to leak all the deals or somebody needs to find out because i'm not buying much but I don't want to buy something and have something awesome be one sale the next day...

I'm so mad I missed bastion, I've been waiting for any kind of deal on that since it released. I think it was a deal of the week one week and I missed it then too. :( The one day I don't check here I miss one of the few games I've been waiting to get for this year.
Bastion Dlc is $1 because pub said ms made them charge bc all Dlc must have price. But Santa joe danger suit just came out for free. Any insight as to how that works? Anyone? Fryyyy?
Like someone else said, it's likely decided on a case by case basis. In regards to Bastion's DLC, Supergiant posted, "...the policy requires you to have released paid DLC prior to releasing free DLC. Since this is our first DLC, we had to put a price on it."
Back on topic - Is anyone else still not seeing the holiday sale on the dash?
The Countdown to 2012? For me it's still the center panel, first "slide" of the games channel.

Not sure if this will make you feel batter but it;s never been on sale before. You have only missed it once.

Well this must be a newer policy as Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires has a ton of free DLC and no paid DLC...unless it used to have a price tag. Or it applies to XBLA titles only...

Nothing on mine.

Spylon (or anyone else) - What time zone is xbldb set in? I see that it caught the Leedmees/Hole in the Wall sale at 18:29 (6:29pm), but in which time zone?
Hope this is the day 3 sale:
Defense Grid = 400 ... Possible, since it just got new DLC to spark interest, and is older than dino-dung.
Orcs Must Die! = 600 ... Not likely, released Oct. 5th, but at least does have new DLC.
Dungeon Defenders = 600 ... Laughable, released Oct. 19th and is a hit on 3 platforms with Steam driving heavy adoption.

Usually a game needs to be out 6 months, or is a flop, before you'll see MS & the publisher give in to easy money on a sale. It's even harder to justify cross-platform sales, since Sony has their own culture about sales that's less about timing, and more about pushing certain developers (cough, "Creat/Tik").

I think Orcs Must Die might happen. I sure hope so.
Thanks I sure hope crysis gets a drop this week
Released Oct. 4th (only 10'ish weeks ago), and you think we'll see a sale? You'll see "From Dust", "Crimson Alliance", or "Toy Soldiers: Cold War" WAYYYYY before you see a fall hit title on sale.

To it's credit, EA will cave much earlier than other publishers on sales, but only when they want to make waves, especially complicated because it's multi-platform, so Sony has a say in this as well.

Marketplace changes happen at 2 times ...
 • Marketing-driven changes of price usually at the end of the day, around 6PM Pacific, will only involve a pricing change, and is usually an unannounced or secretive promo.
 • The other time is around 2am Pacific, when Xbox's Operations Center rolls the changes, and can be much more significant, such as websites, new content, but also pricing changes.
In the case of this promotion, they're happening at 2AM Pacific, since there's website changes with each day's refresh. Just set yourself a reminder to check the sales when you get up or into work each day & you're set.
There is the huge sale and DotW
Have it all. I was just hoping for the countdown to have a regular title and not two kinect titles.
Anybody have an opinion on Crimson Alliance? I finished Torchlight not to long ago and had a blast, is this one close to being as good?
I haven't bought Crimson Alliance, so this is just based on talking with friends who have, bt it sounds like it's only really fun in co-op. Probably not worth it if playing solo.

From what I've seen, Crimson Alliance isn't an RPG like Torchlight, but just a hack-and-slash game. If you're expecting it to be like Torchlight, you may be disappointed by it being a lot more barebones than that.

The xbldb server is located in LA somewhere, I think I read Orange County somewhere and thus uses Pacific time zone.

I use Dreamhost shared hosting, it's been good so far, (I think). I haven't really received any messages about the site being down but most people are passive on the site so not sure if they would let me know.

Kinda of. I found 3 AM Pacific is when the DOTW regularly scheduled changes are complete. These sales are price changing at around 6 PM but the page change is not until 2 or 3 AM. I'm sleeping so I have never been able to check.

Again all Pacific as MS is Pacific.

Yea. Torchlight is a Diablo clone. Crimson Alliance is a Gauntlet clone.
Yea. Torchlight is a Diablo clone. Crimson Alliance is a Gauntlet clone.
Thanks for everybody that answered me, that is what I was worried about with Crimson Alliance. It is now a for sure pass on it, unless it gets WAY discounted to 400 or less then the cheapness in me will have to get it.

I hate eating crow but when you hate as much as me, it happens, way too often. Played Bloodrayne Betrayal again and ended up dropping the dosh for it. I still don't like a lot of the design decisions that went into it and it loses the B-movie charm of the Majesco Bloodrayne games but whatever. I kinda like it, enough to buy it on the cheap.

I also bought Radiant Silvergun, against my better judgement. If I can't figure out the 8 weapon controls, the first people I'm complaining to are you.

I actually need to pickup Dungeon Defenders at full price. I met the devs and found out they were local. Great bunch of peeps.

I'm guessing I am not seeing the ads on the dash because I still have the beta dash. All I have in the games section is ads for WoW, BF3, YouTube, La Noire, Trine 2, and B:AC Skins.

Hope none of that came off as braggadocio.

I would definitely let you know if the site was down. I'm borderline obsessive about checking for random price drops or new free stuff :)

It's not a beta thing because I can see the sales.

You do totally sound like you're bragging though. All I could think while reading that was"getover yourself!" :p

Note that I'm not on a Gold Family plan and I was still able to get Geometry Wars on sale the other week. Not sure if that means the sale wasn't just for Family Gold, or if there was a system snafu that let regular gold members buy it...

I agree that Shank and the Dishwasher games seem better than Bloodrayne (based on its demo), but I enjoyed the demo enough that I'll be picking it up. (And i specifically passed on Radiant Silvergun because there were just too many weapons to be controlling all at once. I prefer Trouble Witches, despite its quirkiness.)

I'll probably get Renegade Ops, as i found the action and explosions quite entertaining. As much as i want to like ITSP though, it's just not capturing my excitement. I'll probably pass on it this go around and hope it goes on sale again...maybe I'll change my mind before the sale ends though. :)I. And even though tower defense isn't really my thing, I'm finding Rock of Ages really intriguing. I have a feeling it might let me down though, so i may pass on that game too.

Family Deals have never been family exclusive, they are just gold exclusive. Think of them as an extra one week gold only sale.

Cool, thanks. I know it has been "down" well behaving funky but usually it me trying to add new functionality or tweaking something.
