Sensible World of Soccer in classic 96/97 mode or with enhanced graphics, online.

At a Sensible World of Soccer tournament staged in London yesterday, Codemasters revealed to Pro-G that there's still several months to wait before fans can get their hands on Sensi for Xbox LIVE Arcade.
Sensible World of Soccer 96-97 is scheduled for release on August 29, just weeks after the FA Premiership 2007-2008 season kicks off. Codemasters also revealed that the game will be priced 800 Microsoft Points.
Sensi on Xbox LIVE Arcade is pretty much as you remember the original, only now sports HD visuals and Xbox LIVE multiplayer.

Never played it but I'll give it a shot.

Can anyone vouch for this game? I usually love any soccer games. I just think they are fun, but I can't seem to remember this one.
And people complain about EA re-releasing their sports games....
Probably because they cost 50-70 dollars, not 800 Microsoft points.

I can't vouch for it either, but I know it has a pretty devoted following that thinks its the best fucking thing ever.

Regardless, not interested unless the feedback is overwhelmingly positive.

Being a former European (recently became American), I've played this game ALOT. It really was the start to all soccer games and its worth a go. It is a classic, but I'm not sure if you'll like it considering you aren't familiar with it and it is quite dated. I surely recommend the trial version first. Although I'll be getting the full version immediately since I'm somewhat familiar with it. I loved the version that came out that had a bomb for a soccer ball and it would go off every so many kicks and kill half of your team.

Trial it first.

Best Football/Soccer game ever, well back in the day it was anyway.

It's probably a big "meh" in the US but this should go down a storm in the UK.

WTF! If this game has that mode, I'm sold!
I refuse to play any soccer game that doesn't let you use a head as the ball.
This makes me think of mutant league hockey for Sega Genesis. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

hell yeah, I think football was better. tackling someone and they just explode into bloody bone and chunks.

I like sports games like this, here's to hoping for a two button configuration too, pass and kick.. all you need.

Me too, I'm sick of the generic crap that's been coming out recently. With the exception of Puzzle Quest several weeks ago, things have been bad.

Hell, bring out Doom 2. I had a blast with the XBLA version of Doom. It seems like it'd be a breeze to port Doom 2 when you already have the engine from Doom in place.
When is this finally coming out? It's been promised for months. I'm dying to buy this!

I think I read an article recently that said they were going through certification but thought it would make it out before the end of the year.

I'm so stoked for this game since I never had an Amiga in the day because they were too damn expensive. This game has a fanatical following to this day in Europe.

Looks like this one might hit next Wed 12/19:
Yes, Codemasters has already unofficially announced on their forums that Sensible Soccer will release December 19th, but we didn't want to get too excited knowing how a developer's release plans don't always match that of Microsoft's. But now we're a bit more comfortable in locking in Sensible Soccer for a release next Wednesday, because AceyBongo (he's the UK's Major Nelson) has just confirmed the news too. Now we're 99.632% sure that the once delayed, then promised for August, then delayed again Sensible Soccer will make its way to the XBLA next Wednesday, December 19th ... pending any further delays. Or so we think. Man, we've been burnt way too many times.

I'm pretty sure this will be 800 points.

Day one purchase for me, I can still remember playing this with a friend on his Mega-CD (Sega-CD in the US I think).

Same friend is now on Live, looking forward to a trip down memory lane.

I just can't warrant the purchase cause I have been playing fifa. Anybody want a game of fifa. I"m probably online right now. Just message me. As long as your not gonna be barcelona ill play you. WHU TIL I DIE.

Damn there are quite a few Hammers fans on this site, you boys were lucky you caught the mighty Rovers on a bad day last Sunday, very lucky.

man, this game a fuckin classic.... I remeber playin this on my friend's Amiga. Now its got a cult following.

Anyone here play ISS or WInning Eleven or Pro Evo Soccer - this game is for you.

Bought the game earlier today and I'm loving it, but is anyone else getting logged out of Xbox Live everytime they start the game up.

I can't log back into Live till I've quit out of the game.

EDIT - I see from Major Nelson that the game has been pulled, I guess it's broke.

No wonder I couldn't find it late last night...I mean what happened to MS Certification?...I mean, they slow down releases because of this and yet they couldn't catch something that happens right at start up

same happens to me and yes they pulled it to fix it.

You know, I always thought having ads in sports games made the game fell more "real." But having ads based on my IP address is just creepy.

WTF, if they're putting ad-crap into this one, they need to LOWER THE PRICE or make it FREE!?!?

Guess I gotta pass on this one...was going to pick it up but ads + tracking my IP = F.U.M$

The ad part does suck, specially since its 800pts though, what if it was originally 1200pts and the ads allowed the drop to 800pts?...yeah still seems wrong. I'll give it a shot anyway and if its something that blows me away I might spend the points for it. A shame that this is the kind of stuff we have to deal with now.
I'd pass on the game to prevent seeing ads in-game:

Yeah. Thats why I stopped going to sporting events or to the mall and stopped driving where there are bill boards. I hate having to see ads for stuff that dont prevent me from doing what I want to do....

In case you cant tell that is sarcasm. If they were commercials that they made you watch between every game then I could see your point. But ads on soda machines and in the background? If anything it makes games more realistic. I would rather see a real ad for a real product then an ad for some made up product that is supposed to be a funny take on a real product.

Ummm, it's not the ads that bother me, it's the fact that "[they] may collect your Internet protocol address and other anonymous information for the purposes of transmitting and measuring in-game advertising."

Maybe you don't care about that and you love spam and you think wiretapping should be legal ("In case you cant tell that is sarcasm"). But I would have a problem with this, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Man, this game sucks. The A button controls passing and shooting, as well as slide tackles (which you can be penalized for) and it's nearly impossible to hold on to the ball. Very disappointing.

I was disappointed too (from the demo)...no way to control change of character? Why not just let the AI take over my team too?...
