XBOX 360 Data Migration Kit Free from MS for Elite Upgraders Only
So with you guys transferring the stuff with the cable...do you still need to be logged on to Live in order to play your XBLA games?
When I put my old HDD (which happened to be 120) into my new Elite, I had to be logged in for my games to work... I'm assuming it's the same tie-in issue with refurbs and new consoles back from repair.... No apparent magic can make it work otherwise (other than the original purchaser console, I suppose.)

I guess I'll bump this thread since my thread got deleted. (?) Does anyone know if you use a transfer kit on one 120 GB hard drive if you can use it on another 120 GB hard drive? According to Microsoft it can only be used once, but I find that hard to believe.

I think they mean the 20 -> 120 xfer can only occur once because it removes the info from the 20.

So, if you have another 20 -> 120, it'll work fine. It won't however work 120 -> 120. The software expects a 20 as the "source"...

Oh! That makes sense and much more believeable than my original working hypothesis of the unit somehow auto-bricking after the process is done. Thanks !

Does anyone know if this migration kit will allow a transfer from one 20GB HD to another? I have the Halo 3 Edition console and kept my launch 20GB HD, but it looks butt ugly on the Halo 360. Thanks in advance.

So I decided I am going to upgrade to an Elite. I am going to sell my premium to a friend or on ebay. I was just wondering how long it takes to get the kit? And is there anything I should know before transferring everything?

I should be getting an Elite next week. I was reading that some people have problems when they transfer there stuff to the new hard drive. They were getting corrupt saves. Is this a common thing? Should I be worried when I transfer my data?

I did not experience that, and I've got upwards of 400 saves on Oblivion alone. :) So I think it's a rare occurence, but if you are really paranoid... I'd put the saves on a thumb drive... you can never be too safe.. especially with something as valuable as saves...
For those that bought Elites and requested the data transfer kit from MS, how long did it take to arrive?

I'm guessing it took several weeks, which is longer than I'd like to wait. If someone has one that they no longer need and would let me borrow one (I'll pay $5 to have it shipped, and will pay for return shipping), please PM me!
It took about 2-3 days.

It took a few days, Maybe 4 or 5. And I don't even know if the kits work after you use them once.

That's much better than I thought it'd be. Thanks for the info!

If the wait was long, I was going to buy one off eBay, but for some reason people like to pay $20 to $30 for something that is free.

Fax the form in and it goes VERY fast. I faxed my form on a Monday, and I had the kit on either Thursday or Friday of that week.

I have one question. Once I do the transfer, will future XBL Arcade games and demos that I download to the elite require me to be connected to Xbox Live to play?

Cool, the only thing that sucks for me is that I've downloaded Bomberman, Bankshot Billiards, Carcassone, Uno, Robotron, and Joust on my current console. In order to get on XBL, I have to go to my moms house since I can't get broadband in the area I live at. So right now I'm trying to decide if I should keep the elite or take it back.

So, it still is a FAST turnaround on these? I just was able to buy an ELITE with the MyWishList from AMEX, so I will be needed one of these cables ASAP. I was going to sell my old one for an XMAS gift, but I doubt I will get my new ELITE that fast.

I will FAX this in though, as that seems like the ideal way to process this (unless someone wants to send me theirs and I can send it back to them for a small fee)
