I don't know if I should preorder now or not. Sders are all ready buying them up to resell and I haven't decided if I really want one yet. Maybe I'll hold out for a GS pre order...Can the resell value be worth it on these? Damn it SD!

I don't see MS running out of these. Let the SDers/FWers waste their money. Then again I thought the gutted and overpriced PS3s in Europe wouldn't sell.
 
for reals? I really dont see the point of spedning 80 extra dollars for an hdmi (same quality as compnent) and an extra 100gb of hd space... for real id never use the 100gb.
 
yeah i and plus since you have basically purchase everything off live i cant see anyone purchasing enough stuff to fill that HD. i dont know why they just dont give the 1 free month of gold membership also if they are going this far with it.
 
I love all these people at SD & FW that think these will be hard to find. Its not a release console. It'll be easy to find IMO. I say every store will get 15-20 in at release easily. Also ebay has no listing or demand for these that I can find.
 
if only i get good trade in credit for my 360 then i might get one of the elite... but its too expensive... maybe it it came with the built in HD-DVD player

cause i just got my 360 around thanksgiving and no red ring of light so its really pointless...

does anyone know if an external hd will work on 360 through usb? if it does why not go that route?
 
The elite isn't limited and the elite doesn't ship with the 65nm chip till Fall. Wait and get the good version.

Most television sets will not read a 1080p signal from component - only HDMI. When it comes to HD, this is a must. I'm going to sell my Premium and get the Elite.
 
I was all about this but being that I got my 360 in December have a one year replacement plan and don't really need more HDD space or HDMI I think I will see how my console holds up. If it caves within the year I can hopefully get a new premium with a quieter drive and the 65nm chipset.

just to let you know GS and EB wont be taking preorders on the elite system. i read an email at work today and it said that we wouldnt be able to cuz we're gonna have limited allocations...

I have also heard that it is going to be a limited edition because after awhile they are going to make it white and it is going to replace the pro/premium one...so the black one will be limited...but not the system w/120gb hard drive itself.

Wrong, read gamespot's preview. The black Elite is NOT limited.
 
Microsoft has stated several times that this is not limited, it is a new SKU and there will now be 3 versions on the market.
I would just wait for a price drop and/or the new chip.
 
Yea F it...I am not upgrading to this. I just hope 20gb hds drop in price. 179 is a fricking joke for the new one.
 
Dang. I want this for HDMI. My X360 picture quality will look so much better through DVI than VGA since my monitor supports 1080p only through DVI.
 
My TV doesn't have HDMI (and can only do up to 1080i anyway), so I have no use for that - as for the 120, I'll just wait for HDDHacker to get updated and use whatever drive is compatible with that (the WD1200BEVS can be had for

One hundred fucking eighty dollars for a hard drive --give me a break. You could buy a fucking gamecube & ps2 with money left over. And Microsoft sure knows how to piss of their current "regular" xbox owners by introducing a superior system less than two years after the "regular" xbox. I wonder if this improved xbox is less prone to breaking than the current non-elite ones...I doubt it.

Thanks to the OP! I work at EB (my OTHER job), and since we don't have the Elite available for pre-order (store manager doesn't believe we will)... I'm ALL in at CC! It was basically just a matter of figuring out who wanted my money first, and CC wins. That's top notch!!!
 
the restrictions on data transfer, is this something that can be lifted (like the d/l limit off live) under enough consumer pressure, or is it permanently in place?
 
well since you can preorder 5 at a time at CC, I see no reason for a shortage, and seriously doubt they'd oversell like everyone did for the 360 core/pro(premium)
 
180 dollars for an 120gb hard drive might be one of the biggest rip-offs I've seen in a long, long time. 100 bucks for 20gb is equally as bad though, of course. I have NO idea how MS can justify that price for that amount of storage space. I'd love to have the extra space but there's no way I'm paying that. I'll deal with 20gb.

A few TV's don't but most will. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway unless they are trying to make an excuse for their purchase.

They are doing a pretty good job trying to make this thing a "media center" type thing! You can "rent" movies online, and the number of games you can download. I can't say having an extra 100gb would be a bad thing!
 
You don't have to be able to fill the 120 GB hard drive to get your money's worth out of it. You only have to be able to fill a 20 GB HD (which only has 13 GB of available space anyway) in order to need a bigger hard drive.

I've got Oblivion Shivering Isles at 1 gig, GRAW's expansion is 800 megs, The free HD South park episode is over 1 gig, and a lot of game demos hit the gigabyte mark. If you download HD videos or just like to keep demos and such, it's not hard at all to fill 13 gigs.

But watch...it may just sell like hotcakes. People will love it in black, and if they think it's "limited" they will gobble it up. Plus it's called "elite" (oooooh....aaaahhhhh!!!) so people will think it is worth the extra $80 above the Premium.

Hopefully MS will couple this with say, Halo 3 for $500 or put it out around the release of Halo 3, so it will move. I've waited this long for an X360, but I will definitely wait longer until the 65 nm chips are in, a quieter drive is in, more reliability/less red ring of death, etc. Also a price drop or Halo 3 combo, or other deal.

Oh I don't question that it will sell, but me personally there's just no way I can justify paying that much money for that kind of space. I get that potentially I could fill up the 13gb's of space I have right now, but at this point I'm not even close and I use other devices in the house for what the 360 is trying to become at this point, so either way I just don't see myself "needing" it. But even if I did, there's no way I'd pay 180 dollars for a 120gb hard drive. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I won't need a new hard drive for the 360 before the modding community breaks it and figures out a way to install our own HD's. They always save us from the perils of wasting money on unnecessary things and I'm sure they'll do it this time too.
