CAGiversary!

With all the hype of MvC3 i have been looking at fightsticks but I am a little weary of dropping big bucks on a stick. I've read a little on custom build ones and also read about the cheap HORI stick that is not great. I do have SSFIV and MvC2 but i don't really play them as much. (i bought because they were cheap... like a true CAG)

So i'm looking at a fightstick for a good price for a beginner. I also have $50 in amazon credit but it doesn't have to be from amazon.

I really like my SF4 Tournament Edition stick from madcatz. One of the more expensive retail options (excluding the $300 hori options), but easily the best quality.

You can get it for closer to $100 if you look for sales and such:

Originally, I picked up a pair of these to play soul calibur 4 with. They are really fun, and much better than the controller in terms of fun factor, but they *feel* cheaper when compared to the T.E.
Before SF4 came out, you could find these for $25-40 bucks, but now they are way expensive again, due to the re-popularity of street fighters.

I don't know much about this stick, but it's bundled with tekken 6 ($10 value):

In all honesty, if you want *a* stick, I'd go with the T.E. Just look for a sale on a new one for around $100. The main problem with getting a T.E. is your friends will complain that you get an advantage, and that you should buy a 2nd one so the competition is "fair." :p
Check around and do some quick research to see if any of the T.E. sticks are better than others. I think they are all about the same besides artwork, but I don't know that for fact.

Note: T.E. stick is also awesome when used in conjunction with Scott Pilgrim and Xmen arcade games. Not so much with Castle Crashers, since casting magic is a built more for the controller.

Oh, to note: most sticks are wired. The "professionals" don't want to deal with the lag caused by a wireless stick. So the T.E. is wired, which is a bit annoying. I still like the heft and build quality; I'm sure you can break it if you tried, but I take care of mine (put it back in the box for storage) and it's still working fine.

Anyone know if the blazblue is a good, cheaper buy?:

directly from the capcom store or madcatz is also an option. They throw out 20-30% off codes every once in awhile. MarkMan usually posts these in the forum here.
(can't find links, but some in the forum already).

And here's an older thread for the 99$ deal:

They're suppose to have bad parts that you need to replace in a few days or something.
Never had one myself so I don't know from experience.

The buttons are awful and will give out. Replacing them is super easy but with the cost of buying another stick and eight buttons (at most) along with a SE stick, might be better off just getting a TE which has higher quality parts. I only went with the SE because the TE is too big for me.

I have a Round 2 TE stick on ebay. If you're interested, pm me and we can talk about it. Its brand new, sealed.

thanks for the offer mike. but i know those go for around $100+. Not looking to drop that much money on my first stick. I'm leaning towards the tekken 6 bundle...

I got the Tekken 6 stick for cheap and it's ok. I am by no means a tournament player but it is better than a controller. I am looking into modding it because the buttons seem to be giving out. I got the bundle for $40 and sold the game for $40 so it was definitely worth it for me.

This makes my brain hurt. What's the best 50-75 US stick? The best 100-150 US stick? I'm itching to get one to play MvC 3 on the 360, but can these be switched between systems at all?

The Tekken Bundle, MvC 2 tournament, and SF IV MadCatz are all available locally, but amazon seems to have the rest.

Thanks, and sorry I'm ignorant about this. I'm excited though.

You can get an SE arcade stick for cheap 30-40 bucks. And for 40 bucks you can get sanwa buttons and joystick. The SE is super easy to mod and it's all plug and play. At 70 total thats you best bet.

For 100 - 150 any T.E. stick is your best bet.

It is completely worth spending the extra money for a TE stick. I have 2 now and they're the best stick out there IMO.

where can you find an SE arcade stick for 30-40?
I've looked everywhere and I cant find that price anywhere.

I think I've seen the Tekken Bundle for like $30 in recent times.

I'm not sure how good the Tekken stick itself is, but I believe its wireless, so that could introduce minor input lag in your games. That being said, I play Tekken with a 360 controller (because I love dropping juggles due to a misread d-pad direction), and I don't really feel the lag people talk about all that much.

I can't find a 360 stick locally to save my life. Sucks living in LA, CA. Lots of fightstick fans I guess.
The TE is sold out everywhere or marked up. I missed all the sales I guess.
I am looking at a Hori VX SA. The stories of gradually busted buttons on TE kinda puts me off.
